The name escapes me now, but there used to be a parade around he World Showcase as recently is 12/2002. It was really cool, and we always looked forward to it. It was also nice to have something back there to distract the little ones. Anyone know why they axed it and never replaced it? I had heard that it did not support Disney marketing (i.e. no characters), but I think that was just some cynical bashing.

It was "Tapestry of Nations", and then remade for the 100 years of Magic and called "Tapestry of Dreams".

And yes I do miss it. I did a college Program in the Spring of 2002 and atleast 2-3 nights a week I would go over to Epcot and catch the parade and fireworks.

A couple of the problems with Tapestry of Dreams/Nations (which I LOVED!) -

It would get cancelled so quickly with wind or bad weather. Made for some very disappointed people who had camped out to watch it.

It made for some extremely difficulty walking around World Showcase. It was a long parade and tied up lots of Cast Members directing traffic for a while.

Don't see anything like this coming back to Epcot.

:goodvibes ABSOLUTELY LOVED that parade . . . the BEST WDW has EVER had!!! BTW . . . It was worth using up all the CMs for that parade!! :goodvibes

I can definately see the weather issue, with the wind that came come up off that lake. One of the few places in all of WDW where you can get a breeze.

But doens't every parade tie up traffic. That AK parade is beastly for that.

Its to bad.

Our GDD was 4 when my DH and I took her to WDW for the first time. We were in Epcot for the parade and the fire lit the big torches and the excitement grew. Suddenly,to Kala, the parade started...we were enthralled with the performance and then noticed that she was jumping up and down clapping and dancing. We smiled and thought "Disney Magic got her". Finally, she said, "Poppa, they are singing to me!" the song sounded just like they were saying her name!! Kala!!! She is almost 13 now and that is still her best memory of the World! Ours too!

ME, ME, and ME! :bounce:

Plus the rest of my family. This was by far one of the better parades. The music was spectacular and the "puppets" were just amazing. Favorite memory was when one of the puppets reached out and touched each one of my children on the head or held their hand.

As far as the traffic issue, I agree that it was more difficult to get around than in MK (you can cut through the shops), but not any more difficult than AK.

Oh the glory days, sure wish they would bring it back. You know they have all the floats and puppets in storage somewhere, now if only we knew where :scratchin

I also miss this parade, as well as everyone in my family. Fortunately we bought the CD with the music on it and we listen to it often. It really "takes me back: and I can almost see those tall "puppets" with the cast members guiding them, reaching down to "greet" the little ones in the group....

This will probably remain my favorite parade ever! I miss it sooo much. I must get the cd!

This was our favorite parade also when we went in 2002.

We have the neatest picture of DS putting his "dream" into one of the nets that the little"pixies?" carried.

This parade was so "right in your face" and so interactive. Unlike any other that we saw!

Next year is the 25th anniversary of Epcot, so I am "hoping" that they bring the parade back or create a new one for the year. We are planning to go to WDW in the fall of 2006, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for something special.

It was such a lovely parade, and I miss it. It was so unique.

I can only hope that they will bring it back for the 25th Anniversary of Epcot! :wizard:

Don't all jump on me...but, I always thought that this parade was really "cheesy". It was just a bunch of folk walking aound with big long poles tied to their arms and miles of (what looked like)silk and chifon material floating around. It was ...at least to me", kind of boring. JMHO (for what its worth!) :)

We saw this parade when my DD was 18 mo. old and it was the most magical thing we did for her. She was so excited and dancing and clapping and the puppets would touch her and she would squeel. It was amazing!!!! :goodvibes I really wish they would bring it back, since we are going in Sept. and would love to see it again. I can see the wind being a real issue for them though. ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo

I loved that parade, I even have it on CD and listen to it once and while.

Our first family trip to WDW was during the Tapestry of Nations. Our DD was 7, and wasn't nearly as excited by the MK parade as by this one - we saw it probably 3 times during a 4 day trip! :flower: The interaction was amazing - we have great video of her dancing with so many "puppet people"... As far as the time factor - this was the only parade that we all actually felt was worth waiting for. Luckily, we returned the next year to find that the parade was still going on, albeit as the "Tapestry of Dreams". Still magical - still something we HAD to see, more than once.

We were so disappointed in 2004 to see that the parade was gone. As others have said, would be wonderful if it were revived for Epcot anniversary.

Oh, boy did we like this one...
I have a pretty good videotape of this.. We were on the lagoon side by China,
which is where some of the light towers are. The last time we saw it, my
youngest DD was "kissed" by one of the puppets -we got GREAT pictures from
that!
I know that EC has real issuues with parades in the WS -it wasn't really
designed for it, but this was one of the best parades that WDW has ever done..
I LOVED the drum floats...
