Anyone else miss the 'open corridors' when staying Deluxe?

I do love my balcony but I also prefer the open hallways!!! Looks like I should be staying at SSR!!! When I am in those long hallways by myself I always feel a bit intimidated. I always feel like I have to be on the 'look-out' for someone following me. Yes, a bit paranoid I know. But I never feel that way in a moderate. I don't even like having to make the trek to the laundry room when I'm at BWV or BCV by myself. But I sure do miss that balcony when I'm at POR!!!

We have always stayed at Moderates, but this time we upgraded to a deluxe for the express reason of having interior hallways. This will be the first time we stay with our two toddlers as well as my mother's first stay. We figured with the amount of rain FL has gotten lately, we would be better off in a hotel where we could have a break from the rain, on the off chance that it rained heavily while we were there. I remember a year we went where half of our vacation we were soaked, because we not only had to fight the rain at the parks, but also on our long trip to and from our room to eat! Was not as much fun the fourth day as it was on the first. :rotfl2:

Interesting replies....I did not know that OKW and SSR had 'exterior hallways' and balconies. I just prefer the openess of the mods and values. If I were in a much cooler climate than I might think otherwise. But there is something about getting up early in the morning and taking a stroll around the resort to get my coffee. Its very calming; the landscape and wildlife are beautiful. When we stay deluxe the hallways seem like mazes, very long, twisting and dark. I have also thought that many think the hallway is a garbage can! YUCK! Seen everything from pizza boxes to dirty diapers out in the hallway. Yes, they do have these things in the hallways at the mods/values too, but you don't always have to take the same route to get where you are going and there is fresh air to circulate the smell.

I could have not said it better. As much as my daughter and I loved AKL - we never failed to get lost going to or leaving our room and every day morning or night there were trays with dirty dishes and more in the halls. We have been lucky when staying at the Poly and have gotten rooms at the end of the buildings so the walk to exit the building was short, but like the moderates we still had to walk outside to get to the lobby. After staying is a lot of Disney Deluxes we prefer the mod's..well make that the CSR then POFQ. The whole thing boils down to what makes you happy and your stay enjoyable.

I love the open corridors when the weather is nice. But when it's raining it's nice to be able to walk around completely enclosed. I love the Poly, because you're in seperate buildings and you still get to walk around outside around the beautiful landscaping. :flower:

THis is why we enjoy the mods. Stepping outside your door and being well outside. It feels like our own little bungelow. We do enjoy the AKL though, their hallways are at least a little broken up with more attention to detail. Our only other deluxes were WL and Swan. While I liked the swan I didn't like the hallways or depending on the elevator. As for balconies, we had one both at the Swan and WL but didn't really use them much, they are so small.....We did use the one at AKL a little, but a balcony doesn't do it for us...............Maybe it is because I have claustrophobia, but I am not impressed by narrow, stale air hallways (smile here if I knew how to use them!)

OK what do I do now? We have stayed at Dixie Landings (POR now) and Loved it. I loved walking outside my door and walking around the grounds. But this year we are moving on up (to the tune of $1000 extra) to stay 9 nights WL Woods view. I have vascilated back and forth as to the money being worth it. Since we are scheduled to go in December I figured if it was cool we would be all "inside" when we were in the Resort.
Have I made the right decision....I know only I know that but :)

Yes, you have made the right decision. You will have a good Christmas feel at WL. There are so many wonderful nooks with comfy chairs and fireplaces sprinkled around. It is an absolutely stunning resort, with plenty of quiet places to relax and let the mind wander. Don't skip the hidden Mickey hunt. It's great!

When you want to walk around outside, there are plenty of places to go. Take a short hike over to Ft. Wilderness on the trail through the woods. Go down to the beach and playground area at WL, they always seem to be empty.

You've made a great choice. I'll even go so far as to say you can't make a bad resort choice at WDW...even if you have the outside corridors.

It's DISNEYWORLD for goodness sake!!!!

I couldn't agree with you more! All of the resorts are magical and have their own special feel. :cloud9:

I've been in way too many endless hallways when we go to Las Vegas that took 10 minute hike to get from elevator to room - I love to step outside the room and be.... outside!

Be well.

I also have been in those endless hallways. And I too enjoy stepping outside the room and being ....outside.
