Anyone else miss the 'open corridors' when staying Deluxe?

We just got back from a split stay at the Dolphin and the WL. They were great, except we missed the openess of the Mods we had stayed at before.
We haven't stayed at the values yet. But several times we commented how we enjoyed opening our dorr to the room and looking out at the scenery. We liked our balcony at the WL, but our view at CBR was about 20 feet from the beach. It was gorgeous. We also liked being able to just walk out the door and being able to just 'go'. Waiting for elevators was awfull at times. Plus, we thought the mods had a much more relaxed atmosphere. Anyone else have the same feelings or am I just crazy???

I can see where you're coming from- but I'm VERY partial to my private balconies! Nothing like waking up in the morning and sitting on your balcony in your pj's watching the fog dissipate over the Seven Seas Lagoon or Bay Lake. I wish I was there!

OK you got that nailed!!

But we had that same view and room location at CBR and it was very nice. Now when the rain rain rain comes down down down then I LOVE the closed in feeling of a deluxe.

See, that's why I love OKW and SSR. You have that wonderful private balcony off your living room and bedroom, plus the outside entrance with stairs from the parking area.

The closed corridors make me a little claustrophobic.

Wow I can honestly saw I have never though about it from that point of view - we are quite the opposite, we would be interested in a moderate with indoor cooridors ! But either way not sure I could ever get my wife to give up the Polynesian :earsboy:

No! I hate not having a balcony. In fact that's one of several reasons we only stay at Deluxe resorts.

I agree with op, I love the openess and cannot stand the corridors of the Deluxes, I feel closed in and scared in a way. Howver I do wish the mods had a balcony. That would be nice. But I just open up the door and look outside and it is great. No dark halls etc. :sunny:

Saratoga Springs is a deluxe resort and it's also open with a balcony....gotta love it!

I have to say I like the corridors at SSR, but having a private balcony is SOOO nice!! If I had to choose, it'd be an inside corridor and private balcony every time!!

It's interesting that there's such a split on indoor vs. outdoor corridors. We prefer exterior corridors (that's why we're at Saratoga Springs), but many folks view them as inferior - or at least "not hotel-like enough". From what other posters have said, interior corridors is a requirement of some hotel/resort rating companies (Frommers, AAA, etc.) for a 'deluxe' or '5-star' rating.

I've been in way too many endless hallways when we go to Las Vegas that took 10 minute hike to get from elevator to room - I love to step outside the room and be.... outside!

Be well.

Awww rats! Now you got me missing the Poly! I didn't mind the open walkways at POFQ but the interior hallways at the deluxes give the resort a nice "hotel" feel. As said above, I would miss the private balcony a lot more than the hallways. Morning coffee on the balcony was a nice treat! :sunny:

I don't have a real preference on the corridors...my favorite is the GF because of the decor, and after that AKL...both have different hallway set-ups I DO have a preference for high ceiling'd lobbies vs the low ones ;) :flower:

Ugh! I despise outside corridors. I hated the bug obstacle course we had to go through to get to our SSR room. Then again, we live in a high-rise. I guess I'm a hallway type of person.

No way do I miss the shared outdoor halls. I hated not being able to open my blinds for fear of everyone peering in on me. Those mods always felt like a seedy motel to me.

I guess I just see a seedy motel as something like this...

NOT this:

No comparison in my eyes. It will be interesting to see how we like the interior hallways at AKL. Because we really didn't mind the exterior corridors at POR. We felt like we experienced the theming from the minute we stepped out of our room door. :earboy2:

Sorry but the open air halls of the mods DO remind me of seedy hotels. Like it or not.

Interesting replies....I did not know that OKW and SSR had 'exterior hallways' and balconies. I just prefer the openess of the mods and values. If I were in a much cooler climate than I might think otherwise. But there is something about getting up early in the morning and taking a stroll around the resort to get my coffee. Its very calming; the landscape and wildlife are beautiful. When we stay deluxe the hallways seem like mazes, very long, twisting and dark. I have also thought that many think the hallway is a garbage can! YUCK! Seen everything from pizza boxes to dirty diapers out in the hallway. Yes, they do have these things in the hallways at the mods/values too, but you don't always have to take the same route to get where you are going and there is fresh air to circulate the smell.

In a word, a resounding NO! I've loved every stay at CBR, but give me a deluxe any day with a lobby, interior hallways, balconies, etc. There's not a Disney mod that I have seen that reminds me of a seedy motel, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay mod again, but I sure don't miss outdoor hallways with people trying to get a look into your room, not to mention the bugs you fight to keep out of your room!
