Anyone else like cubed steak?

I dredge them in flour, pan sear them and then add peppers, omions and tomatoe sauce. Simmer until they are nice and tender and serve up with a nice salad and some buttered pasta.

oh, its no art to it at all. You put as many in there as you can fit. I usually put a whole family pack in there. I cut them in half of course. It's 7 of of us so I have to stretch it the best I can. And yes I use the powdered gravy pack. Sooo deelish. You must try it. You won't make it any other way. I know I don't.

:yay: ooh, I do, I do. I love it. I started making mine in the crockpot also because I hated trying to fry them. It never came out right. I just dredge them in flour, layer them in the crockpot, add 1 pkg of brown gravy mix, 1 pkg of lipton beefy onion soup mix and a little pepper. Fill with enough water to just cover them. Let it cook all day on low. Comes out soooo good. You can cut it with a fork. I got the recipe off of a parenting forum I read sometimes.

Made this yesterday and it was great. So easy!!

thanks so much

The kids and I love cubed steak pan fried. DH won't touch it with a ten foot pole. But, he will eat cubed steak, if I use Pioneer Womans recipe for a sandwich, which you can find here:

http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/06/marlboro_mans_f/

Boy is it a good sandwich. (I haven't made anything from Ree's website, that Dh won't eat.)

I am going to give a couple of the previously posted suggestions a whirl. Now I'm hungry for cube steak.

We use cube steak for country style steak, chicken fried steak and fried steak sandwiches at our house.

We love our cube steak!!!!:thumbsup2

I like it when I don't mess it up and make it too tough. My mother always did it the tomato sauce way, and it was good. On another board a few years ago someone shared a different recipe that I liked. You wrapped it around asparagus and secured it with toothpicks. It was a crockpot recipe, but I didn't like the way the meat came out in the crockpot because it looked kinda grey to me. :scared: I liked it better baked in the oven. There was something you put over it (liquid) but I can't remember what that was now. Onion soup sounds like a good bet. Anyhow it was pretty good, and my husband ate it---which is usually a pretty good recommendation for me since he is so picky sometimes!

Thank you for this recipe!! I need specifics!! I can't cook well but loved cube steak when I was little.

Do you just do one layer of steak or two? And you're talking about the package of powdered brown gravy mix, or a jar of it?

Any more step by step recipes would be great!!

I never could fry it. I'd try and 1/2 the crunchy part would be left in the pan every time I'd flip them. :headache:

Get a cast iron skillet, and once you have gotten it properly seasoned you won't have that problem anymore. I use my cast iron for anything that I want to have crispies or really good browning. Also always use it for making roux gravy. I can't make it work right in any other kind of pan.

We grew up eating cube steak, expecially in chicken fried steak, but also just as smothered steak (unbreaded steak cooked then add in cream of mushroom soup and milk to the actual pan served with mashed potatoes). I don't really eat it anymore, my mom bought it because it was economical. But now that you mention it, I might have to go get some next time I shop for meats.

Oh and yeah we LOVE worcheshire sauce in my house.
