That's what I'm having for dinner tonight - with mashed potatoes and french-style string beans..

I like to cook it in Worcestershire sauce with a dash of garlic salt.. :)

Yes, and I have no idea why! I usually shake on some Montreal Steak Spice and pan fry it.

Well, since cubed steak is just the raw material for chicken-fried steak.....YES, I like it! :)

DH fries it up, then makes homemade cream gravy. Add rice and blackeyed peas, and you have a great meal. I'm so glad I married him!

Dredge in flour and brown in a pan. Place in a baking dish, one layer thick. Cover with sliced onions and brown gravy. Bake for 20 minutes or so.

Serve with mashed potatoes and a veggie....I like green beans.

There is never any left when I make this either at home or at the group home.

Here's how I make it in the crockpot:

First, I cook the steaks in a frying pan in a little oil.

In the crockpot, I put:

One package of McCormick's Stew Mix
One small jar Heinz Brown Gravy
3 cups of water
1 bag of mini-carrots

When we're ready to eat, I make mashed potatoes, but you could make cubed potatoes right in the crockpot.

You could also add a bag of peas if you want.

Heck yeah! :thumbsup2

Me I made it last night with rice and a tomato and cucumber salad

:yay: ooh, I do, I do. I love it. I started making mine in the crockpot also because I hated trying to fry them. It never came out right. I just dredge them in flour, layer them in the crockpot, add 1 pkg of brown gravy mix, 1 pkg of lipton beefy onion soup mix and a little pepper. Fill with enough water to just cover them. Let it cook all day on low. Comes out soooo good. You can cut it with a fork. I got the recipe off of a parenting forum I read sometimes.

No one else will eat it but me, so it's one of those things I cook when I'm living up here at the lake alone.. (Right along with things like liver and onions - LOL)

I'm now eating and posting at the same time.. ;)

I love cubed steak but it is hard to find around here. I like to fry the steak with onions. When done I add just a bit of water to the pan and almost steam it til really tender. We eat it on hard rolls like steak subs.

Thank you for this recipe!! I need specifics!! I can't cook well but loved cube steak when I was little.

Do you just do one layer of steak or two? And you're talking about the package of powdered brown gravy mix, or a jar of it?

Any more step by step recipes would be great!!

I never could fry it. I'd try and 1/2 the crunchy part would be left in the pan every time I'd flip them. :headache:

oh, its no art to it at all. You put as many in there as you can fit. I usually put a whole family pack in there. I cut them in half of course. It's 7 of of us so I have to stretch it the best I can. And yes I use the powdered gravy pack. Sooo deelish. You must try it. You won't make it any other way. I know I don't.

DH won't touch it but the kids & I do....

usually I put it in a frying pan with a little butter, garlic salt, and pepper and then make steak sandwiches/subs with them ~ add mushrooms, peppers, onions, cheese when in the mood.

I kind of don't know what that is :lmao:

But I do remember a LOT of chicken fried steaks as a kid ... I remember them as greasy, gristly blobs of something vaguely meat-like ;)

Maybe I haven't had a good one!

Uh, I think you're right, you haven't had a good one! :lmao:

Love cube steak. We dredge in flour and fry in a black iron skillet. Then make a brown gravy (or if being lazy a jar of brown gravy)and serve with egg noodles and green beans. LOL

This is a family tradidtion.

I dredge them in flour, then egg milk mixture and then I dredge them in well grounded saltine crackers (crush them till they look like flour). Fry'em up like chicken fried steak. Serve with mash potatoes, white gravy, and cream corn! Yummy I think I know what I'm making for dinner on Thursday ( I would do it tomorrow but It's my birthday and I'm headed to Texas Roadhouse for dinner!).
