Anyone else keeping THE secret? Updated list p. 4

ddwlms- love it! :thumbsup2

I'm feeling weak today, almost clucked like a chicken! DD and I are at DS's soccer practice and she's reading the 4th Kingdom Keepers book. She's telling me all about it and then asked: are we really not going to Disney until next October? I said we aren't going to WDW until next October. She sighed and stuck her face back in her book. :lmao: :hyper:

I'm feeling weak EVERYDAY!!! If DH and I actually pull this off, we will deserve a prize I tell ya! I think it will be easier once school starts again, and I will be back at work, and she will be back in school! We almost let is slip the other night when I was telling DH about the possible ride closures during our trip. He was disappointed to say the least!

I hope everybody on our list, let's us know how the surprise went. that will be good motivation for the rest of us! :)

You're trip must be a really long drive. I'm only 20 mins from Stockton but it still took 5 or 6 hours to drive to Disneyland.

Glad the surprise was a success, but now the real questions is: How are you ever going to top this birthday?

Ya, don't think I'm not seriously concerned about the birthday standard I've inadvertently created. Especially come DD 6's bday in October. We have a trip planned at the end of November, maybe I can pass that off as a birthday trip. ? (ya, I have issues with delusion :))

Our drive was about 9 hours. They slept thru 3 of them, leaving me with trying to convince them that it took 6 hours to go "the long way" to progress about 150 miles. -Movies in the car, and their age helped a little.

Be strong Traci! You can hold out til the surprise. :goodvibes

Just keep telling me that Rosie :rotfl: and maybe it will actually happen! We really want to, which is half the battle right?! I think once school starts again (I teach), then we will both be so busy that there will be days we don't even think about it. Anyhoo, thanks for the encouragement :thumbsup2

So we told the kids we're going to 'vegas' in a year. They squealed and jumped up and down ROFL

Hope they're not disappointed when we only stay one night and 'turn around to go home' ROFL

Summer does make it more difficult. :hyper: What will be closed during your trip?

bumpity bumpity bump! Has anyone else pulled off their surprise trip? I'm still hanging on, but there was almost another slip by DH :sad2: It will be a miracle if we make it all the way to Oct. 29th :rotfl: Knowing us, we'll make it to the night before and blow it!

Let us know!

We haven't set our trip in stone yet (trying to see if I can rent points at VGC before I buy our hotel rooms) but we won't be telling our boys. Obviously the one year old is clueless but our three year old will be over the moon. He has been talking about Disneyland non-stop since our trip and even totes around a brochure which he calls his "Disney Book" :lmao:

I almost caved today! I took DD and DS to our local kiddie amusement park today and they were having such a great time... I wanted to share with them the big plans for the surprise trip for their bdays in September, but held my tongue. I knew I would regret it but I was so excited... Glad the feeling passed. Now I just have to hold out for 2 1/2 months.

We had a great trip last week. We told the kids before we headed to the airport around 5am. They were still alittle sleepy and thought we were teasing them. I gave them each a gift card to Disneyland and some little Disney treats and my son thought it was just a card to use at the Disney store. Once they realized we wern't playing a joke on them they were super excited and got ready quickly.

I took my little princess to Ariel's Grotto for Lunch on last Saturday and she said "This may just be the best day of my life". Made my $70 lunch all worth it!!

I ordered the "I'm going to Disneyland" t-shirts off the Disney website last night. I got one for everyone that's going. We're going to sit the kids down that morning and tell them we're going to go someplace fun, but they have to wear something special and hand them gift bags with the shirts. Once they open theirs and realize where we're going, DH, my mom, my mom's husband, and I will all unzip our sweatshirts and have the same t-shirts on underneath. Now that I have a plan, I can't wait to tell them!

Oh, I love this thread! So glad to know I'm not alone in trying to keep the secret!
My daughter's b-day is Dec. 15th, and she has her school performance that day. After that, we always take the rest of the day off and do something fun. So, this time, I'll sneak the luggage out to the car the night before, and then drive straight out to the airport after her performance!

It is sooo hard for me not tell DD something. We talked abut WDW last year for over 3 months before we went. We did the countdown chart, planned our penny presses, made an autograph book, etc.

But I have always wanted to surprise her. So she knows we were talking about vaca plans but no details. We were intially planning a week in SD but have since changed to 3 days in DL and 3 in SD.

Last night we told her we are going to SD for vaca and she is all excited as we are huge Shamu fans. We are NOT saying a word about DL till we get there. We are actually flying to John Wayne airport first so when we get to the airport we are going to say "Surprise - we are going to see Mickey's house here in CA and afterwards go see Shamu". She is going to flip!

I only hope I can keep it all secret till November!

PS - DD is 5 1/2 and everything princess. The other big surprise is that I am planning to get a Ariels Grotto ressie for WOC preferred seating. Dinner with the princesses is her favorite!

We're surprising the kids with a trip in December. I think it's harder for dh not to slip. I hope we can keep it quiet though. We ususally go in February so I think the surprise and the park all done up is going to be so magical:wizard: I am hoping to keep the secret until we pull up to our hotel.

I even made a special Disneyland savings jar that the kids can toss all our loose change into.

I started thinking today, as we are surprising the kids with our trip in OCT, that this would be a fun thing to do... I mean, a surprise is great and it's STILL going to be a surprise, BUT how cool will it be to be able to tell them that THEY helped make it happen!!! :cloud9:
They would love that and they will feel an accomplishment with saving money :)

Anyone else plan a surprise this way??

I am loving all these stories BTW

I'm keeping the secret from my 13 yo Dneice.

I'm flying to Arizona to help my Dsis finish packing her house and move back to Oregon after 17 yrs. Her husband has to work for another month or so and this way she doesn't have to drive alone.
I've invited my niece to come with me. She has no idea that we're stopping at DL and Magic Mountain on our way home. Yay!!!!!!!!!
It's about a 6 hr drive from my sisters house to DL so I think I'll make little Disney gifts for the drive to let her and her cousin know.
Either that or we'll just tell the girl's we're gonna drive til we're tired. HA. Tired of not being at the happiest place on earth!!!!

Well, we did it! We kept it secret for months. We left home with our 12 year old son last week and travelled around the coast of British Columbia for a few days and told him that we were visiting his uncle is Washington. At lunch today we gave him a card and the Goofy hat that I had taken from his room and told him - you might need this! He is so excited and so are we! We are eights hours into the drive with 10 more to go tomorrow!

We priced out a vacation staying at Wilderness Lodge (where my son is dying to stay!) with my son and have a jar so that we can work towards it together. So far we cashed in $125. All loose change and 20% of their allowance goes in there. The guy behind us in line at te bank had a big water cooler jug full of change-he had over $1300 in there!!!!

Can't wait until Thanksgiving to be arriving there for our surprise! My DH and I figured out how much food would cost us the days with no dining plan- and we have that all saved in a seperate account, and I have enough Disney Visa Rewards dollars to pay for our park tickets.

How is everyone hanging in there? Still keeping the secret? :rolleyes1 I hope the July surprises went well. Can't wait to hear about them!
:yay::yay::yay:
