Anyone else keeping THE secret? Updated list p. 4

Rosie, I have had two of those close calls, and my DD can read! Fortunately she believed my excuse, but it was a good reminder that I need to be more careful! FOUR MORE MONTHS!!!! I'm going to need a tranquilizer by then :rotfl:

We're keeping it a secret too and will tell them the morning we leave.

Hi again Jenny!

We're keeping our trip a surprise, but mostly because it isn't a sure thing yet, and we hate to disappoint the kids if we have to cancel. We're in the middle of buying property/building a house and money is questionable... (know you can relate). ;)

It does look like we might overlap your dates. We have ressies at the HoJo Tue-Fri, the week after Thanksgiving. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 My friend Callie, we have to meet if your trip happens. :goodvibes Your first day will be out last.

4 more days to go!!!! :)
i have to say the last week has been the most difficult to keep it quiet!!!

I cannot imagine. I would be a spastic mess. :hyper: How long have you kept it quiet?

My DD just busted me writing on another thread telling about where I bought tickets! Good thing she is not a good reader. But she knew this was about Disneyland and lamented about when we can go again. I said "maybe one day..." I have to be more careful!

:scared1: Close call.

You have to keep the secret for me or every five second we doing to disneyland yet. LOL I'm so excited tho!

 I feel ya. Misery (well not really) loves company.

Ativan is your friend. ;)

We're keeping it a secret too and will tell them the morning we leave.

:thumbsup2 Love how many of us are trying to be so slick.

Love the surprises! We kept the secret for FIVE MONTHS before our first trip to DL last year. I had some people tell me I was mean for not telling the kids ahead of time, which made me feel bad :guilty: But my oldest has...er...issues with anticipation and we just didn't feel up to weeks of her throwing up every night. Every.single.night! :lmao:

We didn't do anything elaborate. Got them up and ready for school. Then DH sat them down for a stern talking to (I'm sure mommy holding the video cam must have confused them), explaining that as they'd taken soooo long to get ready, we were now late for school & work...so why not just go to Disneyland instead. The kids squealed with excitement and I shut down the camcorder to start herding them to the car...then my oldest asked her dad 'are you kidding us?' and mean daddy that he is said 'yes'. Oh how I wish I'd left the camcorder running! It was happiness to despair in the space of a nanosecond! We all rushed in to assure her that no, no, no...we were just kidding about the kidding and yes, we really were going to DL!!! :lmao:

As a follow up, my same child had to have five teeth extracted about a month or so after we got back. She knew she had to have the teeth out but she didn't know I'd already booked the appt -- until she got up that morning and came downstairs. The running joke in our household is that you can never be quite sure what's going to happen when you wake up - could be Disney...could be the dentist!

We have a cruise/DL trip planned for September. We're going to tell them about the cruise, but not till the weekend before. I figure she has to learn how to manage her excitement at some point, right? We won't tell them about DL until we're in the taxi on the way to our hotel ('oh darn, the cabbie missed the exit for the airport! Oh well, might as well go to Disneyland for a couple of days')

:thumbsup2 Great story! There's always the hope that Disneyland will trump the dentist. Love a DH with a sense of humor.

we started planning it in january!!!
our first idea was to go in march, but we had to postpone it, they knew we were thinking about it but we said we had to cancel it because of work.
We decided to keep it a secret at first because I could not live 6 months with them asking me how long it's going to take!!!! :lmao:

3 more days! I can't wait!!!!!

Way to go, holding it this long! My biggest fear is making right up until like a week or less, and having something spoil it then. Let us know how it goes!

We should make a surprise list! The names and dates of who is surprising their children and when, and then putting them in order from closest to farthest! I really want to know how everybody does. It is such a great way of making memories with your kiddos, and it's something I always wanted as a child. Just a thought!

Last time, 2 years ago, when we surprised the kids, we were leaving on a school day, so they all got up and started getting ready for school. There was a knock on the front door and there was a HUGE wrapped present sitting at the door. They all thought it was for the 4 year old as he'd just had his birthday. Daddy carried the box inside (pretending that it was heavy). The kids opened it up and mylar balloons floated out. There was also a note inside addressed to the birthday boy. It was from Mickey mouse, apologizing for not making it here for his birthday because he lived so far away. Instead he asked if we wanted to go visit him in Disneyland and that they should go get dressed RIGHT NOW because a man was coming to pick them up in 30 minutes.

It was soooooooooooo fun. They all zoomed out of the room to get dressed and they couldn't believe we were going.

We have a chicken coop in our back yard that looks like a little house, so we are thinking of making it look like the house from 'up' with balloons and leaving a note for them in the place the chooks lay their eggs. Maybe from Donald this time.

I feel like I'm going to pop! :hyper: The last time DH and I pulled off a surprise trip to Disneyland was in 2005. Kids were much younger then and way easier to fool. We were in Vegas and the morning of Dec 19, Santa left a letter saying that instead of going back home to Utah we were going to Disneyland. I did the tree from VP- the whole shebang! It was magical.

Fast forward 6 years later....I have NO clue how to surprise them. :confused3 We may be in Vegas for soccer again over Thanksgiving which will be a no brainer because we'll head towards CA instead of Utah and eventually one of them will catch on if I can keep quiet for 5+ months.

Anyone else keeping THE secret? Any good ideas for the surprise? pixiedust:

Reminds me of my first surprise trip to Disneyland (at least that I remember). I was 8 years old and we had just spent some time at my cousins' house in Las Vegas. When it was time to head home we packed up, got in the car and left to what all us kids thought was back to Utah.

We were a little confused when we started driving the opposite direction for going home, but still being rather young, we bought the excuse that my parents fed us (don't really remember the exact excuse - something about an alternate route home). Of course, eventually we realized that there was no way we were heading home, and my parents broke the news that we were heading to Disneyland :yay: :yay:. It was a fun surprise. I can't wait to surprises my own children w/ the same surprises (my DS is only 4 mo. old).

I'm glad this thread is here because we're in the talks of a trip a YEAR from now. We REALLY want to surprise them but I dunno HOW I'm gonna keep it in. Is the surprise worth it? I'm worried I'll miss the build up of THEM being excited to go (but it might keep me sane without hearing 'is it time to go yet?' LOL)

I love hearing how everyone has done it..we're trying to come up with how to surprise them if we do it. a YEAR tho..I'm gonna go mad.

Cute idea. I'll edit the title to reflect the page the list is on if you make the list. :thumbsup2

We have a coop too! Love your idea!! I might borrow that.

That's fantastic! I enjoy reading about the memory and special it was. :goodvibes

I miss the build up too. My little Chloe is my Disney buddy so not sharing with her is killing me. :hyper:

Ooooh So you're going in a long time too! I missed that somehow. I can do this..I can do this.

Have you watched all the 'surprise' videos on youtube and disney.com? They make me BAWL

I keep trying to watch them but the kids are staying up later than I am every night because it's summer. One of these nights I'll pull it off. I have watched the few links posted here though. :thumbsup2

I'm not sure if you have read throught all of the posts, but I wanted to give you a suggestion on something that is helping me keep the secret. When I am feeling weak, I go to YouTube and watch "Disney Surprise" videos. I find myself even crying with some of them :rotfl: You also might see some ideas that you might want to use on how to do it. I absolutely know that it will be worth waiting for, and although I will miss the build up, seeing her reaction will outweigh it. And think of the memories your child will forever have because of the surprise! Good luck!

Yes! I am keeping our Disneyland trip a secret from my kids as well. We are actually taking a Disney Cruise (which they know about) on 10/2, but will be at DL from 9/30 - 10/2. They have no idea - I want to tell them SOOO bad, but I think the surprise will be worth it.

I cannot wait :)

So hear is the list of people who are planning a surprise trip. Not all of you listed actual dates, but instead a time of year, so that is what I put instead. I only listed people whose date hasn't passed. If you want to be added to the list, just give me the dates of travel and I will add you! This is so much fun!:cheer2::dance3::yay:
