Anyone else hear about Grand Floridian DVC?

I just heard from a reliable source that they are planning Grand Floridian DVC in the next 2 years. This completely took me by surprise! I fellow DVC member said they were told by their guide that it is in the planning stages and will be announced within the next 2 years :confused3 I have not read or heard anything about this. Are they nuts or am I out of touch?

Hmmm, I would love to believe this rumor, but my guess is that Disney will wait until the economy improves a bit before adding more DVC resorts. Currently, AKV, SSR, and BLT are all selling plus GCV (or have these started) and Hawaii to follow. With 3-4 resorts for sale at once, I don't think they will announce another resort for a few years.

The Villas at the Grand Californian are currently in the Founding Member only sale status, and go on sale to everyone else on March 26th.

I doubt if it will ever happen and if it does, it won't be for several years. Disney is down sizing and cutting back to stay profitable. BLT sales have been much slower than projected and they reduced several design elements at Kidani Village to make a larger profit.

I think anything is possible when your talking about wdw!

:drinking1
Be warned that my flame resistant potion has been consumed before stating the following...

My guess is that all the deluxe resorts will eventually have DVC units. That is just my opinion, based on nothing in particular other than knowing that when disney sees demand, they provide supply. I also wouldnt be suprised to see value dvc units (dvc pop? dvc all star?) eventually as well. I recall discussing here on the DIS many, many times in the past few years about the 'rumors' of a monorail dvc resort at one particular wdw flagship resort with the majority of responses being "will never happen!!!". Heated debates occured and many flames were sent to those who even suggested the possability!!! And now BLT is just a short time away from opening.

So I guess we will just have to wait and see...

I think a lot of people at Disney have been saying for several years that there would be no new hotel development at WDW -- that any new lodging would be DVC. It will take a long time probably, but I think you'll eventually see DVC at both Poly and Grand Floridian.

I would LOVE DVC at GF. GF is our favorite resort. I agreed with DH, no more add ons, unless it came about at GF. If this is true, I better start saving!!

Funny i remember after Bay Lake Tower was officially announced in sept there were rumors on here about Grand Floridian DVC, so i wonder where these rumors are coming from.

I definitely have a hard time believing that a guide would have mentioned anything about a DVC resort in rumorville. Not even a day in advance before the official unveiling did any guide mention anything about Bay Lake Tower, therefore theres no way someone, especially a guide, would talk about that before even a ground breaking. They only way that sometimes ive seen things leak this far in advance is if somehow someone gets their hands on the propery layout plans(i forget what these are really called).

I thought the plan was to have DVC at all the resorts (eventually). It would not surprise me if the Grand Floridian was next. That would be an awesome addition to DVC. :)

Is this the same reliable souce that says the "monorail" will be extended through the Swan?

Is this the same reliable source that built the Eagle Pines DVC? (That one was actually announced)

And so on...

Sorry, but "reliable" is not a "fellow DVC member who was told by thier guide" Do YOU REALLY think Disney tells those guides anything they don't have too? They KNOW the guides can't keep thier mouths shut! In this economy, I think what you have now is ALL you get for a while. Don't get excited and start saving!

Disney has probably done a study, but that's a lot different from building a resort. (See Eagle Pines! LOL!)

And of course on this same board is the "Disney is going out of business thread" So... Gee we can own GF at a closed park LOL! Got to love the DIS!

We have a friend who's a former CM (he was not a bus driver BTW) who mentioned eons ago to us that they have the land set aside that they need for a GF DVC (one day). I don't think it's unreasonable to speculate that it COULD happen ONE DAY. And I think that's the thing...it's ONE DAY. Doesn't mean it's imminent but it's just an idea on the books. I wouldn't dismiss it as a "never gonna happen". I think with today's economy they will sit tight for awhile on any new DVC announcements...but this could be the next plan when things pick back up with the economy.:confused3 Only the Mouse knows for sure!

Oh, I wouldn't be surprised by anything a guide said! They say all sorts of things, speculate on things, hint at inside info, etc.

Problem is, they seldom have any real clue what DVC is doing. Guides are right up there with boat, bus, and monorail drivers as shaky sources of info (although the monorail drivers were right about BLT). I'd go with info from a light-cart vendor at Epcot before I'd depend on a guide rumor!

That said, I think DVC Poly and DVC GF make more strategic business sense than DVC Hawaii. I think we'll see them...but somewhere down the line.

The other reason I said "reliable" (and don't think any information regarding Disney is quite reliable :rotfl2: ) is because this person is a CM and the guide they heard it from is a relative. When I heard it, I was like :confused3 . I said, "Since I haven't seen anything about this on the DIS I doubt it.":lmao: She was very confident in what she was saying, but truly reliable..no clue, but one can wish!

I watch the boards fairly closely. (Help me, I'm a DIS-a-holic.)

My 1st recollection was of someone who said they were bored and photo shopped DVC buildings in at both the Poly and Grand Floridian.

Well, I think everyone was quite surprised how new building(s) fit right in at the Grand Floridian. I don't remember exactly how much space, but it was definitely big enough for DVC. (The Poly was a strange fit.)

Others piped in about how they would L-O-V-E to have DVC at GF. Then others mentioned that GF may lose some customers the 4 Seasons development and have excess capacity. Then others brought up the rumor that all deluxe resorts would eventually have DVC...so then...

A rumor was born. GF would definitely be next.

Who knows? The DIS may have even been part of the reason that we have a Bay Lake Tower. I'm pretty sure the DIS is the reason that we don't have a Kingdom Tower. I kind of wondered if the bored photoshopper, was indeed a DVC spy. She definitely started something though.

Y'all let me know if my story about this is wrong.
