There have been a few offers through various rewards programs (mainly at creationrewards) where they have wanted you to download a tool bar or other program. Well when I click to download it my anti-virus pops up saying there is a virus so of course I don't install the program. I emailed CR today to state that I had a virus alert and their response was that they have tried it and there are not any viruses.

Anyone else have this happen? :confused3

Was it the google toolbar? Could it of been a Spyware Alert instead of a Virus Alert? I know toolbars love to load alot of spy-ware

In my opinion Anti-Virus Programs are all different some update more than other programs--- If your program is warning you about the virus I wouldn't trust the site even if Creation is saying their is no virus there.

I have been lucky so far and have had no virus warnings when it comes to Reward Programs and their programs to download. But I have had Virus warnings pop up while surfing the net

From what I understand from the internet marketing community, most of the free smiley, free joke, free screensaver, etc. toolbars all come with some kind of spyware. They have to get something out of giving you something for free. Now, it may not be the kind of spyware that affects you at all except that they are tracking what you are looking at. But it more than likely affects the people whose websites you visit. There is something called "cookie stuffing" that can happen when you have spyware. What that means is that if you click on a link on someone's website and they are supposed to receive some kind of credit for it, the toolbar can overwrite that cookie and the toolbar company can get the money. It's a reason that a lot of times you will not get credit through a rewards program for an offer or a purchase that you make.

Do be careful of any kind of downloads. That said, my virus program tells me everyday that I am running "harmful" programs because I have some legitimate toolbars downloaded (like Google and Alexa). www.siteadvisor.com is a great site to visit before you download anything. They will tell you WHY something is considered to be spyware or adware.

Thanks Sunshinegirl. I'll have to check that site out before I download anything else. It usually is the smiley/weather toolbars/programs that give me the problems. I just hate seeing the antivirus pop up saying there is a virus threat with these programs.
