Anyone else having rotten luck lately?

I broke a teeny tiny piece off of one of my back teeth. It's so small I had to point it out to the woman taking the xrays at my doctor's office. I figured, hey I have a cavity and I'll just get it filled.

But nooooooooo, I need a root canal. Gee, I'd pay about $100 for a filling, but now have to pay about $1100 for the root canal and crown (after the piddly amount my insurance will pick up).

I'm going to hide in bed for a couple of weeks.

I would get a second opinion on that. Really. It sounds like the doc needs to pay for a trip or something.

Kimberly, my DH said the same thing. I've been going to this dentist forever and I hate the thought of going to someone different. I also hate to think he'd screw me over.

Financially, though, I owe it to DH to get a second opinion.

Unfortunately, that's pretty much what my dentist charges too. Not to mention that my dentist is my DH's best friend as well as our former neighbor! The crown alone is pretty expensive, but add that to the root canal and $1100 sounds about right.

Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed.

I'd get a second opinion simply because you said it was so tiny. If it's so tiny, why do you need a root canal. It couldn't hurt to get a second opinion. Will your insurance cover that?

I'd be careful about having a tooth pulled. Adjacent teeth have a way of moving slightly b/c the hole is there. Lots of times you then have gum problems, and you'll need a bridge to fill in the hole to keep the teeth from moving any more. And a bridge costs a lot more than a root canal.

My cycle of unlucky events came at the end of 2002. Sure hoping with the New Year my luck changes. Bad back and snowbound has keep me in, not much happening when your hanging-out doing nothing.

Ooooh, I've been avoiding going to the dentist because I know it will cost me an arm and a leg to get the dental work I need done.
