Anyone else have this reaction to reallocation of points?

I know so many people are upset, but part of me is actually sort of glad. For years we dreaded weekend points, so either our vacations were Sunday-Friday, or if we did come in Saturday, we'd either stay in a studio, stay off-site, anything to avoid those huge #s of points for a larger unit on weekends. Now, there's so little difference in points, I see our vacations being longer and all in a 1 BR. Anyone else
looking at the good side of this point reallocation?

I just finished a huge spreadsheet that started by entering all the 2011 point values, then I decided to create the same thing for 2010 points. I don't think I really appreciated the difference until I did that - WOW. My husband has every other Friday off and we like to include weekends to make the most of our time, so we're looking forward to those lovely, evened-out points!

Yes, we are happy that weekdays/weekends are closer in points. We can get cheaper airfare from Syracuse if we fly out during the week and include weekends in our trips.

So, now we save in airfare and the points work out okay. Plus, we are hoping to do a long weekend trip, just DH and I every other year so this also works in our favor.

We typically travel in Magic season so for us, even with all the changes over the past few years, we benefit since we had to buy to cover a higher point time frame.

I am happy for the reallocations too. I work 12 hour rotating shifts, so my ideal time off is Fri through Thurs (my short weeks only requires 24 hrs of leave) and now with weekends cheaper it is more doable. My wife also has every other friday off, so it works for her too.

We are thrilled with the new points reallocation. Our stays at Disney typically start on a Friday, and end 9 nights later on a Sunday. We stay 4 weekend nights, so the point savings for us is nice.

I work a contract in the ER. I work every Fri, Sat, and Sunday and get 4 weekends off a year. I bought DVC thinking that it was perfect for me since I'd never waste a weekend there, I drive from SC leaving Monday morning and returning Thurs or Fri ( the Friday is not part of my contract, just my schedule ) So, basically, I've been hosed. I planned NEVER to use a weekend and now my "usual" trips have gone through the roof.

My annual Mon-Fri in June, 2 bedroom at HHI has increased 40 points!

So no, I'm not impressed at all.

It works out well for us too. We never avoided weekends in the first place, so most of our trips went down, with the exception of the CL ones at AKV.

Our DVC plans always included 2 to 3 long weekend trips a year, so the realocation helped on those trips. We have one stand alone contract that was for a weekend trip for food & wine each year only. Bought the exact amount of points the year before the first reallocation. Now that contract has an ever increasing amount of extra orphan points I keep banking to the next year. Eventually it may add up to an extra night.

We can't justify the cost of airfare for trips of less than 7 days, so we have always stayed on weekends. But the new charts will have us considering 9 day/2 weekend trips, although cheaper airfare tends to be mid-week to mid-week itineraries. I am glad for any effort by Disney to even out demand for rooms, which is more of a concern to me than the changes in point requirements.

We always stay over the weekends (2 free days off of work - LOL) so the reallocation really doesn't affect us either way. When DVC lowered the weekends, it raised the corresponding weeknights, so our trips are about what they would have been under the old charts. Also, we did a lot of research on The DIS before we bought, so we heeded the advice to buy 20 more points than needed in case of a reallocation...which turned out to be very good advice and put us in a good position either way. :thumbsup2

That's was pretty much my reaction, too.

Back when we first bought the kids were young and it was easier to take more trips and stick to the weekdays. In a way it's sort of a relief to be force-fed the weekends. We will probably lose a couple of nights per year, but honestly I'd rather take two 6-7 night trips rather than three 5 night trips.

We've always tried to check in on Sunday and check out on Friday to avoid the high weekend points but now that the points are spread out it will make it easier for my family to vacation over the weekend.

I like the difference too b/c we usually go Friday and stay for 10 days - it makes it easier for us to add the 2nd weekend without going in a studio

BTW, southtexasmom, I see you don't have too many posts yet, so I can say "Welcome!" I'm so glad to see someone a little closer to my "neck of the woods", or maybe I should say "my neck of Texas".

The reallocation makes our F & W trip weekend trip more doable. And maybe now we can consider doing a long weekend for my Feb birthday too. We still have to recover from all the points we borrowed for DH's and his brothers birthday-retirement extravaganza last September. :rotfl:

Reallocation was no big deal for us. We purchased our original contract allowing us to stay for one week at the high point season. Addons have made it even more un-noticable.

I am sorry for those that it affects. I never like to see anything take away from the Disney Luster we all somehow decided can never go away. It is the surprise that business decisions have to be made by Disney that seems to affect most of us.

We like the change. I felt like the old point charts kind of "forced" us to do Sun-Thurs trips due to the high weekend points. I realize that it is pretty much the same number of points for a week, but I don't have the large point difference glaring me in the face.

If I went out to eat and they had a steak dinner for $30 and a $10 shrimp dinner I would proabably get the shrimp dinner, even if I was really hungry for the steak, due to the price difference. If they had the steak for $22 and the shrimp for $18, I would get the steak. I like that they are similar, even though the shrimp is now higher. It gives me the flexibility to get either the shrimp or steak. I also understand the frustration of the people who planned on the $10 shrimp dinners.

That is a great analogy...

We feel the exact same way so we too are ok with the re-allocation.

Same here. I'm fine with the changes.
