anyone else have luggage missing on your return?

It happened to me in May - Checked my bags at WL around 9:30 for a 1:30 flight - when I got home my bags were no where to be found - there were 4 other families with me in the lost baggage claim at Southwest - all had used RAC but we were all staying in separate resorts. They bags came in on the next non-stop flight from MCO.

We had a variation on this issue. We waited at the Flint, MI baggage carousel with a couple other people who were also at WDW. Finally, no more bags. My DD's bag and one of the bags for the other travelers didn't come. So, we marched over to the SW ticket area to make our delayed/lost bag claims. The agent said, "just a second, we got some bags early." She went to the office and brought us our bags. They had arrived on an earlier flight. We used RAC at BWI; the other people used it at Pop Century. We both dropped bags early so we could go to the parks.

. . . Checked our luggage with RAC at Old Key West and, when arriving in Chicago, it was a no-show . . .

1) Therein lies the problem.
2) OKW has a relatively small SECURED area for outbound SAC luggage. *
3) When the cage is full, the luggage is stored adjacent to the cage.
. . . the cage is inside the luggage room
. . . federal laws require the secured luggage to be in such a locked cage
4) Frequently the RAC guys do not look in the secondary shelving units.
5) Eventually, the luggage is found out-of-place.
6) Unfortunately, it is usually the Midnight Shift that finds it
. . . this is normally done when going through the luggage room
. . . the shift looks at luggage to see if there are any non-delivered to the rooms
. . . they also look for long-term luggage held on shelves
. . . if the room gets too full, such luggage is moved out of the luggage room and placed elsewhere

* Inbound DME/RAC luggage actually goes to the employee cafeteria area in
the middle of the resort and is laid out in the open. The cages (each cage has
only one person/family luggage pieces) have the seals cut and are opened at
that location. They are then loaded to a golf/luggage cart and transported to
the room.

DD15 and I returned from WDW on Southwest on 6/10. We were scheduled on the 6:20 non-stop to STL. After 2 gate changes and a 1.75 hour delay, we departed MCO. When we arrived at STL, there were at least 10 families who had no luggage. We were all on-site, but different resorts. We had all checked bags in the a.m. with RAC.

I know at least two of the families had put car keys in the checked luggage. One woman wanted to know if SWA would pay for their hotel (no). The other man was to start a new job the next day.

SWA told us they do not scan the bar codes and couldnt tell us where the luggage was. I believe it showed up later that night, but it was after 10:30 p.m. and I just wanted to get home.

I live approx. 100 miles from the airport and my bags were sent FedEx arriving on the 12th.

If it was a case of poor organization, I'd expect we'd be hearing from flyers of other airlines. But notice most of those talking of issues have been flying Southwest. That points to the airline having issues more so than RAC at OKW.

starshine brother in law lives 2 hours from airport and case with keys was delivered the next afternoon around 1pm

In all the times I have flown, and gone to Disney, I have only had difficulty a couple of times with luggage. It has been with a variety of airlines, and not one in particular. Years ago, about 1980 or so, we were flying Eastern airline from Columbus, OH to Gainesville, FL. We had a short connection in Atlanta, and our bags didn't make it. Fortunately, we were staying at my parent's house, and they delivered our bags to our door about 24 hours later.
By far, the most aggravating experience was with ATA, when I was flying with my son. The airline made us gatecheck our carry on bags. We had been delayed at the check in counter for about 1.5 hours due to understaffing, at about 5 am. We just barely made it onto the plane, and there was no room in the overhead bins. Of course, I had things in the carry on bag that I didn't want checked, so it totally steamed me, but, I did what they said. When we arrived at MCO, our carry on bags were no where to be found. I was in the customer service office, nearly in tears, reporting the lost bags, when my son noticed that they arrived on the carousel with the bags from the next flight, which was an hour later. Why they would gate check our bags, and then put them on a different plane, is beyond me.
Then, there was the time we were flying from IND to SNA via DFW. When I was booking the flight, I chose the earlier of two flights that were an hour apart. Once again, the airline chose to put our luggage on the next plane. Once again, our bags were not at the airport. This time, I was going to a conference in San Diego, and had my husband and son with me. I have to admit that the passive-aggressive side of me toyed with the idea of letting the airline transport our luggage from Santa Ana to San Diego, but, I decided that I would much rather have my luggage than take revenge on the airline.

Reading this made me wonder. We live 2.5 hours from the airport, would they actually deliver our bags all the way to us if they got delayed?

I sure hope they would. We are Canadian but fly from Syracuse, NY (a 3+ hour drive from our home, not including any delays at the border). If Jetblue ever loses my luggage, once it re-appears I will be expecting them to make the journey to True North Strong & Free to deposit it on my doorstep. ::yes::

Good to know!! I definitely wouldn't want to make the drive back to the airport to pick up bags.
