I was supposed to fly from Boston to Phoenix tonight, through Denver, but everything to and from Denver is cancelled. I called United to get a different flight, and after hours of trying to get through, I finally talked to someone who got me a new flight- for FRIDAY! She said that was the earliest possible flight. Not only that, but I'm flying 6.5 hours to LA, 3 hour layover, then 1.5 hours to Phoenix. That's two hours longer than my original flight, plus 2 hours longer of a layover, and who knows what kind of a seat I'll get, since I can't choose ahead of time.
Anybody else having this trouble? Anybody else dealing with United right now?!
I'm wondering if I had driven to the airport if I would have gotten an earlier flight. I can't believe the next flight is two days away for someone whose flight got cancelled!!!!!

YIKES!!! I just saw that on the News, the storm in Denver. :guilty: Good Luck to you!!!

Now that Boston's weather is on my side for flying...I am realizing from the UKer's on the DIS BOARDS that there is so much FOG in London, flights landing in Heathrow are being cancelled..... :guilty:

Hey! I know you're on the computer in the den, only a few feet away, but thought I'd post. :lmao:

I know you're sad and upset, and you want to get home to hubby, (and he misses you and is waiting just to look at you), but hey, you've got us for another day!

Tonight- pizza and games! Awwww, come on, cheer up! :teeth:

:lmao: Way to go Mom :lmao: Pizza and games sounds like fun - could be worse, you could maybe get to Denver and then be stuck for a couple of days without Hubby, Mom, a bed & shower or a computer in Mom's den ;)

DS (college student) is trying to get from Tulsa to Denver and his Frontier flight was cancelled. I had to hold for 30 minutes and when I got through they offered a seat tomorrow AM or Friday AM. I took Friday as I think tomorrow may just be cancelled too. At least by Friday if flights are delayed they likely will not be cancelled. Good luck to you!

Yeah, that's what I said! :teeth: I guess when you're young and in love, two days is an eternity. Daughter's husband is a teacher, and his vacation starts tomorrow, so they had planned on having a few days together before the rotations of visiting family and relatives for the holidays.

Daughter is a little happier now, though. Since she has a three hour layover in LA, she is planning on meeting an old college friend for lunch.

I sure hope everyone makes it safely to their destinations in the next few days. :)

This kind of crap happens with natural disasters. I was stuck in Mexico for 5 days after a two-day hurricane. We didn't have fresh water (except drinking), we had no contact with my family at home, we didn't know when we were going to get a flight home. Just be glad that you're "stuck" with your mom and not at the airport or some third world country. :sunny:

If you are a patient person and wanted to get there earlier, you could go to the airport and fly standby. Probably you would get out of town earlier - but then again it's the holidays. Flights are booked... most likely over capacity. So standby probably isn't a good option in this situation, and honestly you are lucky to even be getting a flight on Friday. There is nothing United can do about the weather in Denver. It's the chance we all take when flying, unfortunate but true.

I worked for 3 years in United reservations. Yes, it is entirely possible that the next available flight is Friday. You're looking at the holiday season when flights are already booked to begin with, then adding cancelled flights to the mix just adds more people to try and get on those flights. Denver is one of United's hubs, so LOTS of flights being cancelled. All those cancelled flight people need somewhere to go. Since this is weather related, then all airlines are being affected, not just United. If it was a problem with just United, then they could try and get you on another airline, but all airlines are cancelling flights.
I know it sucks, but just remember that person on the other end of the phone is trying the best they can to help you. They will be on the phone non-stop for 8+ hours helping people who want to get home for the holidays and are in the same situation as you. There would be times during weather cancellations that we would be holding 500 calls. As soon as you disconnect with one person, you have another on the line. It's nonstop crazy. I hope the best for you and all other travelers right now.

Its much worst at the airport. When we got stuck coming home from Disney (the kids first trip when they were 6 and 7). We had six suitcases.
We had to wait in line because they cancelled our flight. By our turn all flights home were booked for the night, this was after 8 when were at the airport since 10am that morning. They put us up at the motel from hell 25 minutes from the airport since all the hotels at the airport were booked because lots of flights were cancelled. We were dropped off with our suit cases at this motel and had to lug all six suitcases up the steps to the second floor since there was no elevator. We had to be back at the airport at 4:45 for a 5:30am flight that was now a connection even though our original was nonstop.
Be glad that you found out before you got to the airport.

The Denver airport is closed and there are several thousand people stuck out there. Good luck trying to get home. Hopefully Friday will have better weather!

Or before you checked your bags. Did you see the story about the planes on DIA's tarmak that were cancelled? The people were unloaded, but they could not get their luggage. So, they are stuck at the airport now without any of their luggage.

And the last flights that came into DIA, baggage was not unloaded due to the storm.

Alright, I feel a little better now! I wasn't mad at United or rude to anyone on the phone or anything, I just wanted to find out if anybody here knew if waiting two days was unusual or if it was to be expected. Never had a flight cancelled before. I'm definitely luckier than some people tonight, but I still can't wait to get back to sunny Arizona and my own home! I hear some people are getting on flights days later than mine, so I guess I'm lucky I got through when I did!

Sorry, I didn't mean to insinuate(sp) that you were rude to them on the phone! :) Just after having been on the other end of that phone, I've had to deal with many people that take their feelings out on the agent! I hope you have safe flights on Friday and have a great holiday!

1600 flights were cancelled today thru Denver. There are alot of people stranded. Glad I am not traveling today!

My inlaws were told they can't fly out until late Christmas night, they were supposed to leave tomorrow morning. Something seems a little fishy with that one but they are such ladeda people that they went surely great, we'll go out late Christmas night. And instead of staying 7 days, they are staying 2... LMAO, how stupid.

OT...Melissa...awesome pic of the kiddos!!! Have a wonderful holiday and congratulations...wait 2006, wait is your ticker wrong... :confused3 I almost thought you had him...but naa, 2007.........WELL CONGRATS!!!!!!

I saw that mess in Denver earlier on the news!! Wow, I feel so bad for anyone having to deal with that, either as a passenger or as an employee of the airlines. Some things are just out of our control.

Even the UPS trucks were called back in from making their deliveries. People were trying to drive and you could see them sliding all over the place.

I sure hope things are back up and running soon for everyone's sake. And I wish for anyone dealing with this to be blessed with alot of patience. They will need it! Good luck! :wizard: :wizard:

I can see them not getting out tomorrow, MAYBE Friday... but come on, not for 5 days? There is something very odd there.. but I guess they had to hope that they would get some spineless people who would go okie dokie to the later flights so they could get other people in on earlier flights.

Yikes! You know it's funny. I have a friend in AZ who was supposed to fly here via Denver a couple of weeks ago. She made it to Denver but had to fly back to AZ because we had a huge ice/snow storm here.
