And please don't tell me they are cute or harmless!! These are HUGE, disgusting crickets and they are in my basement and I want them out!! My cat kills a few, DH kills them, but still they remain...this is NOT Jiminy in ANY way, shape or form. I HATE THEM!!

All the spiders in our basement eat the crickets. I'm not really sure what's worse...

Sorry I can't be of more help, unless you'd like some of my spiders!

We have tons of crickets & the first year we lived here I called an exterminator. They said it would be hundreds of dollars to get rid of them & I should just wait it out because they'll die in the fall. They did. Then there were dead crickets all over so we sucked them up with the ShopVac. Vacuuming up dead bugs is now a yearly ritual signifying the end of summer. ;)

Hmm, spiders or crickets...tough choice!!! UGH. My cat kills some of them at least. I am just hoping they never come up to the main part of the house.
Sugarpie...sounds like a ton of fun!! lol

Hmmmm....I actually have to BUY them! DD has a little green anole (a little lizard) that eats baby live crickets. The large ones are bigger than his head, however, so I have to buy little ones.

We have 2 Disney Anoles ( not really but DD fell in love with them on one of our trips and we've had a few since ) one Green and a bahama one as well. They love the large crickets but we do get some squeekers once in a while and boy do they make some noise with 15 together at a time.

If you want to catch them get some glue traps put a small bottle top of water and some watery fruit in the cenrter of the trap and they will come and get stuck.

Seriously, Bengal roach spray. Just spray around the windows and doors. It will kill the crickets (and roaches too). Then go spray around the outside of your house.

The big ones really really disgust me. I end up being the one feeding the anole (of course, I'm the mom!) and I JUST CAN'T DO IT with the big ones; they look too much like roaches or something.

We just have a Cricket keeper and we dust all 15 put them in and they last a bit over a week . We have a body or leg discarded every once in a whle but other then that they are good with not eating them all right away.

Yes it takes over our summer!

DH & DS x2 all play &DD is the scorer.

OOPS wrong sort of cricket!

I was always told it was bad luck to kill a cricket in the house! If we find one I make DH :teeth: take it outside.

How do they get in the basement?

It is odd that we don't have any in our house now, but when I was a teen I had my bedroom in the finished basement (of a new house, in 1976, and it is not too far from where I live now).
I had crickets in my room and I hated it! I used to sleep with my blankets pulled over my head and just my nose sticking out because one night, a big brown cricket jumped into my hair.

I had the chibbers for years afterward.

I used to keep a stack of hardcover books next to my bed and I'd throw the books on top of the crickets.

I just wonder if you have a garage in the basement like we did in that house.

Just reading your post is making me itch!! When I was a kid we lived in a house that was infested with crickets. It was a ranch style and I think there was a crack in the foundation slab. Crickets EVERYWHERE! All sizes, big ones, little ones, brown ones, black ones...one morning I woke up with the blankets pulled up to my nose...and a big old cricket sitting right on the edge looking at me! :scared: Everyone in the family had their own personal "cricket crucher" aka flyswatter. Sometimes, the crickets were so big you couldn't kill them with the swatter--one person would trap them under the swatter and someone else would have to whop them with something heavy, like a book. Argh! Ack! Gross!! :scared1:

And you know what else? This same house had a yard that was infested with snakes! We'd come out in the mornings and find loads of snake skins in the bushes. Yuck, yuck, YUCK!

Every spring I get crickets in my ventilation system. I have no idea how they get in there. I get to live with the CHIRP, CHIRP echoing through the house throughout the summer. And, of course, the Kitten Trio wants to give presents to their mommy, so I've learned to check the floor beside the bed BEFORE getting up. Nothing quite as nasty as crushed cricket on one's bare feet...even if it was dead first.
