Anyone else hate shopping at the regular store?

I mostly shop online, except for things like groceries. Part of the reason is that I can usually get much better prices online with discount codes, free shipping, etc. Another part of the reason is that I just HATE shopping at the regular store. This is mostly because I can't stand how pushy the salespeople usually are. If they aren't pushing you to spend so you can take advantage of some "promotion," then they're pushing their store-branded credit card while you're trying to check out, etc.

Today, I had a cashier who didn't understand "no thanks". I'm sure that it's part of her job to try to push her store's mastercard, but after saying no multiple times and having her still try, she irritated me enough that I won't be back to shop in that store again. I'm tired of stopping into Target to buy t.p. and paper towels and having to say no multiple times when they "offer" me a Target card while I'm trying to check out. Hence, I shop there very little. Maybe I just have less patience as I get older, but these pushy business practices drive me NUTS and has driven me out of being a store shopper. Am I alone

Well, I hate going to the mall. I only go when I absolutely have to. I do a good amout of online shopping, but also at local stores. I just avoid the mall, it's a scary place during the holidays!

I do the majority of my shopping online but mainly because I'm just lazy. I've been to the mall more lately because dd loves to shop and likes to drag me along. Well, hey, she's 15, if she likes to spend time with me, I'm not going to complain about what we're doing.

I'm not really bothered by pushy salespeople--they usually leave me alone after the first no. I can understand why you'd be annoyed if they keep pestering you about getting the credit card.

I generally love shopping in stores and malls, but I have no intention of stepping inside one until February - well, except a grocery store and drug store! I don't enjoy fighting my way through traffic to get to the mall. I don't enjoy trying to find a place to park. I don't enjoy walking 6 miles to the mall after finding a spot in the next county. I don't enjoy being packed in with people who have no regard for anyone but themselves. I don't enjoy standing in a line for an hour to check out if I manage to get near merchandise I want. I don't enjoy the 6 mile walk back to the car with all the bags and fighting the traffic again to get away from the mall.

I prefer sitting in my living room, in my pajamas, on my couch, with a bottle of water, the remote control, my laptop and my debit card.

I don't like the "Will this be on your Sears Card?" either. I say, "No." Then I get asked, "Do you have a Sears Card?" It's none of your business. I understand if someone says, "I don't have one." and they mention how you can get 10% off if you open one, but when I say, "No." I don't like that someone starts asking me what I have in my wallet. It's very intrusive. I don't blame the person since I know they're told to say that, but it rubs me the wrong way.

First story is my KOHLS story..

I went to kohls last night at 8pm to poke around. BF was with me, and he bought some pants and a shirt for his new job.

I found a small item that I wanted.

Anywho, at the cash registers, I walk up to a checkout area, and wait for the person in front of me to finish up.

When it was my turn, the cashier looks at me and is like “Sorry sir, I’m closed”

(Oh, that’s right, how could I have missed the 10 foot flashing neon sign?)

So, disgruntled and ticked, I walk to another register that has a huge line..

And Olga Oldie is there with her checkbook… fumbling around…

About five minutes later, it’s my turn – but of course, the cashier is like “one sec, I have to page the children’s department for another customer.”

Another customer? Well, who the funk am I, then?

So, she calls the childrens department, and starts having a conversation with them.. I dunno what they were talking about, ( little league?) but it wasn’t just a simple price check.

Of course, I’m ticked.

BF walks over, and is like “you’re still in line?”

I look at him and am like “This is EDITED... I can ring this up myself.”

BF is like “Go ahead. I dare you”

So, as the lady is on the phone, she turns her back.. and I “swipe” my product over the barcode reader.

“Beep!”

Immediately, “19.99” appears on the screen, followed by “$21.19” (with tax).

So, using the regular pin pad that the customers use, I swipe my card, enter my pin, etc.

::waiting for approval:: it stated.

Finally, the woman gets off the dang phone, looks at me, and sees my item already bagged.

I told her: “Already scanned the item and swiped my card. Just hit enter so I can get my receipt and get the hell outta here”

She looks at me with such disgust and with an attitude she’s like “I’m not gonna even bother asking you for your zip code.”

What a stupid thing to say to me!

This is what drives me absolutely nuts. I just avoid the stores where this is a business practice if at all possible. I find it THAT irritating.

When I was in high school, I had a summer job where we were supposed to push our products on people who were calling up to report the need for a service call We were "rewarded" with store gift certificates for our "successful" referrals. I refused to participate in this practice. If a caller ASKED me about a specific product, I would volunteer the info. However, I refused to push products on people who were calling in because the main product that they bought from us was broken. I can't tell you how many times I got in trouble for my refusal to participate in that program. Um, yeah...these people are furious at us already, but I'm supposed to try to sell them MORE stuff? Whatever. I despise stores/vendors who employ this pushy practice, so this may be why the store card/branded credit card speil (sp?) ticks me off so badly.

Oh God, that's funny Stinkerbelle. I wish I had the guts to do something like that!

I honestly don't mind going to the mall. I've been off work a few days lately and decided that I would "treat" myself by going to mall yesterday in the middle of the week. I figured it would be a good thing. Wow! There's a whole 'nother world going on in the middle of the day in the middle of the week. I was out shopping with the "Ladies of Leisure!" I got behind a few Olga Oldies too. I swear I spent more time in line yesterday because the people checking out were so slow, or had so many problems. Sheesh. When I was in Marshall's, the woman in front of me asked the checker "Do you all take Visa?" Huh???? I mean does anyone REALLY need to ask that? Then she didn't know how to use the thing in the little pin pad.

To the OP: I am envious of you. I try to shop on line but I still find that I get the best deals when I go "on the hunt."

I can't stand the mall.

DH is always mad because I won't go "window shopping" with him. I know why he likes to go. He wants me to point out things I like so he can surprise me with them but I still don't like to go!

"Stuff" costs too much. I don't like 2/3 of it. I'm short and have a 'mom' body and the stuff I do like looks horrid on me. There have been times where I go looking to spend $ and I try 50 things on that all look terrible. It is very discourging.

I don't want to deal with teens hanging out. I'm sick of rude sales people who make just above minimum wage looking down on me because I'm not dressed up for a night on the town.

I don't mine the credit card offers. Most people take no for an answer and I did save an additional 30% (more than $100) when I opened one up at Kohl's. Of course after the transaction, I walked over to customer service and paid the bill.

I do hate shopping at the mall, dread it actually. But I also like to try on, see, feel what I'm buying so unless it's something I'm already familiar with, then it's off to the mall I go
