I used to wear my hair long, but really like it better short. But I hate going in for trims. So I keep putting it off, and putting it off, until it's been months so then of course the stylist can't match the cut because I let it go too long. :(

I just hate going, and I don't like making an appointment and then having to keep it, so I just go to a walk-in place and of course never get the same stylist. In that way I know it would be better to go somewhere else...

Then I hate it when I get a chatty stylist who never shuts up. Maybe others like having one like that, but I don't. I prefer she just cut my hair and be quiet. I'm a very quiet person by nature and sometimes I just get sick of hearing the stylist talk, talk, talk and then I have to respond too.

And I hate it that they push products. Last time I was there she talked me into $64 worth of shampoo, thickener and hairspray and truthfully I didn't notice any difference between them and the Pantene that I buy at Wal-Mart.

My hair is getting disgusting. When it was short it was layered, so now that it has grown out too much the longer part is just so straggly and looks terrible.

I'm going this afternoon to get it cut. Will be glad when it's over.

It's not my favorite task. I used to love going when I was younger. Now, it's just another chore. My hair is also short, so it's every 5 weeks. Then I get highlights so that is once every 3 months. What a drag sitting in there for 2 hours. I hate. Fortunately, my stylist is pretty quiet and never pushes stuff on me.

I enjoy the pampering and have never bought anything at a salon that I didn't want too.

I actually LOVE getting my hair done. Maybe this is because my cousin cuts my hair, hehe and we get along very well. But I have always found it so relaxing. I do enjoy chit chatting about whatever, although in the past I've been quiet and that's okay too. I don't see a difference in the more expensive shampoos either. you can always say no thank you!

I procrastinate about it way longer than I should. In fact, I have to go this weekend. Luckily, I have a very simple cut so it only takes about 15 minutes or so. But, yeah, I hate it.

I love getting my hair cut. I enjoy chit chatting with the stylist and we have actually become good friends! Turns out her fiance and my husband used to be good friends in high school but drifted apart. We have gotten together with them a few times and had a blast.

I have never been to a salon that pushed products.

I think you need to find a salon and stylist that suits your needs and then start making appointments with them. My stylist is quite busy and I always can get in within a week of calling for an appointment (unless it is right around a holiday/back to school).

these words could have come out of my own mouth!!! :lmao:
i can't afford to get talked into the products, so i'm safe there though!
and i feel like such an unkept shlump when i do finally go because my hair is pulled back in a ponytail and has absolutely NO shape or style and i have SEVERAL inches of gray roots!!!
i think you just helped convince me that i need to go soon. very soon!
thanks a lot.......

Not my fave task either, but with short hair, if I want it to look and act descent, I have to go every 6 wks. I try to remind myself it's not something I could afford in my younger yrs. when raising 4 children, so I am greatful for the splurge. :goodvibes

Thankfully I've had the same trusty stylists for several yrs., so she knows exactally what I want. She very family friendly so I really enjoy our chats and she's never pushed their products. Luckily salon's only 10 min. away, I make next appt at time of service on her least busy day, so there is no wait. :flower3:

Good luck and enjoy MIGrandma! :wizard:

I hate getting my hair cut. Love getting it style though! I have ethnic hair so it requires a different type of maintence than caucasian hair. Well because I started to go semi vegetarian my hair started to break and become really damaged. The ONLY solution after months of trying to repair it was to cut it like Rihanna short! AHHH! I nearly cried but I didn't. My stylist who has known me since I was 5 was totally surprised. Now I am better about getting trims because it helps it to grow so I'm all for my hair to grow.

I'm so with you there! It's worse than the dentist to me! I just went on Saturday for the first time since last June. I wear glasses, so I can't even watch while they do what they do.

My hair is quite curly, but fine, so a bad haircut isn't covered up well. With a very round face, I have trouble with getting them to shape it right. In my whole life, I can count on one hand the number of haircuts I've been pleased with.

My DMIL often says that "the difference between a bad haircut and a good one is about two weeks", and that's about right.

Funny, I was just about to post a new thread, think I will anyway, because I need a haircut but don't know what to tell them. I don't care for the experience much either. I'd like to go someplace other than the cheap place but I'd be afraid that I'd be spending double/triple and still not liking how it comes out - not that I haven't had good cuts at HC. I especially like when they charge me more to blow dry my hair because it's curly yet last time, it took the stylist the same amount of time to dry mine as another stylist took to blow dry the long, already super straight hair of another girl.

I would love to go in and say "give me a style that you think would look good on me & that I can easily do myself". But I'd be too afraid their idea is :scared1:

I used to like it when it wasn't an expensive endeavor to see a nice salon. I dropped my stylist 14 years agowhen her prices rose t0 $45 (originally $18 10 yrs prior). I've kept my hair in a straight long cut since then, and only go to the cheap places to get it trimmed off about 3 times a year.

I now have a bit more money I could spend toward my hair and I'd love to have an actual style again...but I'm afraid of choosing the wrong person to do my hair, so I keep sticking to the darn cut I've got.

I used to go but now im paranoid cause i tell them to cut one inch and they cut like 3. So yea i think im ok for now lol

I haven't been to get my hair cut in over two years because I hate going. My mom trims it for me. I hate talking to stylists about things, I just want them to leave me alone. You don't need to know where I'm going to school, what I'm going for, what I think about the weather. I know they are trying to be friendly but I absolutely HATE small talk. It also seems that they can never cut it right anyway so it's not worth $12 to get a trim when my mom can do just as good a job.

That's my problem! Some of them have some hairstyles that I would NEVER wear in a million years.

One time about four years ago I went in to get my hair cut about shoulder length. The girl who did my hair had her hair cut pretty short and kept asking me if I wanted to go shorter than I got it :scared1: uhh no thanks. I told you the length I wanted for a reason not for you to experiment.

My mom has had to go to Great Clips numerous times to fix botched haircuts from them. They always refund the money or do the hair again for free so my mom tries to find someone who can actually cut hair. If that person isn't there it often is a disaster.

I hate getting my hair cut too. I always make an appt. with the same person (as she cuts my hair really well) but none of them are pushy or even ask about products after the cut. The reason I absolutely hate getting my hair cut is the talking. I wish she would just be quiet and cut my hair. She asks question after question about my life and then goes on and on about hers. I don't barely tell anyone that I see on a regular basis anything about my life let alone a person I see once every few months in a room full of strangers. Ugh.

I take in a picture of a haircut I really like and told her I wanted it to look like that as much as possible (I think some people just take in pictures of actresses they really like or people they think are beautiful without REALLY looking at the haircut). I look on the Internet before an appt. and find a haircut that looks good but also has the same face structure as I do (round face).

I used to dislike it and viewed it as a chore until I found a stylist with whom I just "click." Now my only complaint is it's an expensive treat and I wish I could go more!

I guess I view it as catching up with a friend every couple months? She's taken care of my hair for, gosh, ten years or more now. We know a lot about each other's lives, and, frankly, sometimes I don't feel we're fully caught up with each other when the visit's over. She's never pushed products on me. If anything, she's taught me how to do things at home that ultimately save me money -- like waxing my own eyebrows with successful results!

I also think she's the best hair-washer in the world. Just perfect. Doesn't hurt, doesn't scratch, doesn't pull, but does this thing with her nails that gives me goosebumps and just puts me in a trance. Love it, love it, love it!

DH started going to her about five years ago, and he just loves her, too. Feels the same way about her hair-washing abilities and calls her his therapist, because she just listens to all of his problems and gives amazing advice :)

I cant believe this thread! I have the same feelings. But finally today, I went and got a haircut after 6 months. I should have never let it get that way because I look a little younger and feel better now. I just hate spending the money.

i don't like going to walk-in places because i'm usually waiting for at least a half hour to get my hair done.

one time i went to one about 3 hours before they closed. i had a Halloween party to go to that night and wanted to get my hair dyed and styled and i waited for about 2 hours, and then when i told the girl what i wanted, she said "oh no....you have to come at least two hours before we close to get a color" and i told her "uhm, i was here about 2 1/2 hours ago, i've just been sitting and waiting." but she still wouldn't do it. so she just styled it and barely talked to me, she seemed like she would have rather been ANYWHERE but there.

so now i try and go places where you need an appointment so i'm not waiting for hours.

and i've never had anyone "talk me into" buying something. if you don't want to buy it, don't buy it.
