Just need to vent...sorry!
I just ordered WDW Merchandise over the telephone from WDW and the total of items I bought was just over $80 but shipping to Canada was $75(I live 15 minutes north of the border)!!
I have found that shipping from the Disney Store Online and Disney Deals off eBay have very ridiculously high shipping costs as well---just wondered if anyone else ever gets upset because it just seems Canadians aren't really being given any great deals! We can't get Disney Visas , join Disney movie club,we can't even get Disney catalogue sent up here--its discouraging when you see all of the wonderful items but can't get it unless paying an arm and a leg.........
calming down, breathe in slowly...........
just needed to vent..thanks

I agree!! I wish I had paid more attention when I ordered through Disney deals on Ebay the shipping I expected and grugingly paid, but when I got the $20 bill from the customs broker! :O I decided I wouldn't be ordering anything from Disney again!

I agree fully! Just last week I called to order the new Pal Mickey as a suprise for the kids before we go.Well it went like this, told it would be $65USD.Ok that wasnt a problem then they told me also about the $75 USD for the shipping. :earseek:
$140 for a talking doll..and in US dollars to top it off.Well I decided that yes I want the kids to have it but I'll wait till we get there to buy it then. It just seems so unfair.I cant belive we cant even get the Disney Visa card, have you seen it :) I just want it for collecting.
All I can say is thank goodness I have been planning this trip for awhile and worked lots of overtime. This might cost a big buck but I cant wait to go! :cheer2:

I order items from disneydirect, then have it shipped to my inlaws in St. Pete's then they UPS or mail it to me. It's much cheaper for me that way.

Marilynn

I do the same thing as Marilynn, I have my stuff shipped to a friend in Buffalo ... the shipping costs are just too much. Too top it off the courier company usually has to collect tax/duties so there's usually an additional $10-$20.

I could not believe the shipping cost either. A number of years ago I was going to buy a dress on liquidation. The dress was 14.00. The shipping was 25.00. I wrote to them to ask why shipping was so much. They said that is how much it costs to mail to Canada. When I wrote and told them that I order from Land's end all the time and the shipping is very resonable they did not reply. Oh well. They won't get any orders from me until they can do something about shipping.

Shipping is just rediculous!!! When I was down in Disney in November, I was worried about taking the snowglobe that I bought back on the plane with me, so I looked into having it shipped back. It was going to cost me more for shipping than the snowglobe cost me, and I paid $80 for the snowglobe! I was like, no thanks, I just carry it on the plane with me.

The cost to ship is definitely crazy.

Chickkypoo, same thing told to my sister at an MGM Studios store last year.

She was nice enough to pick up something I wanted but never ended up buying while I was down there. She asked about shipping the $50 item and was told something like $65. So my sister says, "oh you mean in total for the item and shipping?" No, just for the shipping. Not really believing the cost, she tries to clairfy, "are you sure it's going to cost MORE to ship than what this tinkerbell costs? You mean this will cost me $115?" Yes.

Anyway, I got my Tinkerbell but my sister brought it home with her.

:rotfl2: Sounds like the exact same conversation I had with the cashier. My jaw must have just about hit the floor when she told me that she was just talking about the shipping, lol.

If you used your credit card to pay for the item, check to see if they provide some kind of purchase insurance. My Diner's Club card insures retail purchases for up to 90 days against damage and theft. That way, you won't have to worry too much about carrying something fragile with you :)

Has anyone ever thought about shipping the other way?
We are thinking of ordering Tshirts for our next trip and thought it might be easier to have them shipped to our resort to greet us there. Anybody ever do that?

If your item is shipped with a courier company you will have to pay duties when it gets to the border. I have items shipped from the US by USPS and there has been no problem with extra money charges or duties. Now you have to get the people on the other end of the phone to agree to send USPS that is a different story, but if they want the business bad enough it is amazing what you can get them to do if you push........shove, beat over the head.......etc.

So, on the other hand, how much does it cost to ship to WDW? Has anyone ever tried to ship groceries or whatever to WDW?

It's not Disney that's at fault for the shipping charges - it's not like they're making any money off of it! I've been quoted outrageous shipping prices from several online companies. Fortunately I have a friend in the US and I have stuff sent to her.

Now then, said friend sent me a Christmas present one year and had it delivered by UPS - I had to pay a brokerage fee before they'd release it to me, it was almost $40!

And I have had to pay customs and duties on items received (ordered) by mail as well.

I agree! I was about to buy some really cute personalized shirts DisneyDirect was clearing out but the shipping costs were outrageous!!! I cancelled my order.

Your right it's not Disney's fault it's like that with alot of things you buy on the net from the US to Canada.Either way like I said Im still going to buy it but I'll save myself some bucks and buy it down there.I guess if you really want something thats the price you have to pay. It's just a shame though. :)

It is a shame that they put such high shipping costs on things. I also think the brokerage fees are awful as well!! I had left some clothes hanging in a closet at my in-laws in IN one weekend. We didn't know when we'd be back and these were things I'd need. My MIL shipped them to me. Well I had to pay the post office $25 brokerage fee to get my own clothes!! It was clearly stated what was in the box. I was not impressed. I recently ordered a special murder mystery and it was a value of $40 US. They charged me the taxes which I have no problem paying, but what irks me is the $5.00 fee they put on top of that. I have to pay them to take my money? Hmmm something wrong there!!

I definately think Disney benefits from the high shipping--I order from US companies all the time-JC Penney, Victoria's Secret, Amazon.com, Birthday Express, etc. and never have I encountered shipping plus duty costs like the ones I got when I ordered my merchandise!
If someone can justify a $75 shipping charge for 6 WDW pens, 4 sets of ears and a t-shirt then go right ahead but I think it is definately something we should all question!
These items weight will be nothing compared to items I have bought from Amazon, eBay and the shipping was just a fraction of what Disney charges!
I just think we should all write emails to Disney and let them know how unfair it is!

I have ordered several items thru Ebay and always have the seller mark my package "gift under $20" and have never had to pay the duty or taxes. It all depends if the seller is willing to do that for you or not.
