Anyone else get the DVC survey re: DVC 'elite' club?

That was my point in part, that there is being upset and then there is being upset. There was quite an uproar about the banking window changes, booking method change and re-allocation but it was mostly ranting and no action. So you'd be OK with removing some current perks, establishing a priority system including advance reservation window, and eliminating resale buyers from those perks, at least going forward, instituting a few fees like banking, borrowing and transfers only to reduce or eliminate those fees as part of the VIP packages? IMO it shouldn't matter how many points you have, if it's an OK thing it's OK whether it helps or hurts a given person. Establishing one's philosophical position related to personal impact is intellectually dishonest. Not trying to speak for you but rather interpreting how you present yourself on DIS and my impression is you would not be OK with some of the options based on those interpretations. Since it appears I'm wrong in that interpretation, even better because that puts you far closer to my position than I had anticipated.

Intellectually dishonest, :rotfl2: well gee that is a first.

Gosh I think I am scarred for life and here I thought we were discussing DVC not world hunger.

I seriously doubt any changes would greatly bother me or even affect me, so if I think it is a bad idea overall, it would be for others not me personally. And yes I can think something is a bad idea without it upsetting me which was my point to begin with.

This is obviously a touchy issue. It is so much better to agree to disagree- rather than trying to cram each others' opinions into a space it simply can not fit in.

If & when DVC decides to change, I am sure we will all be the first ones to know. (short of their operating board of course)

Well, if they want to punish me for not having enough points or making enough referrals, they can take all the DVC discounts (except for the AP/PAP one). I never use them. Most of the time, I forget they are even there. The AP discounts are about the same, except for the minigolf which is way better with AP than DVC.

True, but the biggie that was mentioned was an earlier booking window. Even though I would likely qualify, I may find that one to be unfair. (Although I find the new booking policy unfair as well, but that's another thread).

Lets get back to task. :goodvibes

Assumptions:

Disney won't take anything away from existing members and they have decided to go forward with, lets call it the "Commodore Club".

Based based upon points owned, I was thinking that three levels would be interesting. What about 400, 700, and 1000 points.

What's your thoughts about the point levels?

Well, I went from 500 points to 325. So I guess I could go from 325 to 0.

That wasn't intended at your personally, simply addressing the general approach of deciding how one feels about something based on how it affects them personally. I truly apologize for making it seem directed at you personally, plus per your statements it doesn't apply to you, though I stand by the statement in general.

While I doubt they'd take core usage benefits away, I wouldn't go forward with the assumption they wouldn't take anything away. I do think it's likely they'd grandfather existing resale members but even that's not automatic IMO. I had posted previously with possible breaks at 500, 750 & 1000. You want to get somewhere around 5-10% for level I, 1-2% for level II and well under 1% for level III in a 3 tiered system.

If they decided to give the elite an earlier booking window, would you consider that taking from existing members?

If this isn't something that any one of us members has control over, why borrow trouble or worry about what might happen? If you worry about it now and it doesn't happen then you have worried about it for nothing.;) If you worry about it now and then it does happen, then you have worried about it twice.:rolleyes1 I only have 160 points and can't afford to add on any more in the near future. Therefore, I would fall into the basement of the 'tiers' and could be considered the hillbilly cousin. But I prefer to wait and see what happens. THEN I can get upset if I get dissed by the DVC...

If we have to discuss only facts and things that have happened or been announced, there would be almost no traffic and no fun. This place would be boring to no end.

I wouldn't call anyone elite because they happen to own more points that someone else. Are people who own 500 points elite because they own more than someone with 160 points?

I also don't consider it taking away from existing members because core members would still have the 11/7 windows. That's different than changing core members to 9/4 and letting CC members keep 11/7. That would be taking from existing members.

Sorry you feel that way. :sad1: If the changes around you cause you distress and if DVC has lost it value, then I understand your decision.

DVC and Disney Parks have made a lot of changes that we don't really care for. When DVC stops saving us money on our Disney vacations or when Disney has lost all of it's magic for us, then we too will sell our DVC interests and find a different vacation destination.

Whether we like it or not, Disney is going to do what's good for Disney. There are many more joining the DVC than quiting, even with the price increases and recent changes.

My Dh and I only own 100 points.

We are very happy with the number of points that we have now as we can take TWO trips per year and stay in studios. I do not believe that we put a strain on the system, and did not buy into the system for the perks only.

I cannot imagine ever owning more than 250 points.

I would be very disappointed if we lost our 11 month advantage at Boardwalk Villas. Scratch that. I would be very disappointed if we could no longer reserve standard or boardwalk views on the first day of our booking window. I would also be extremely disturbed if we had to start paying to bank our points, etc.

If changes penalized me enough, dare I say it...I would take my vacation dollars elsewhere.

I have not read this entire thread, only the last few pages. As for the pp who stated that this was not viewed by many...I didn't look at this thread before now because I know thatwith 100 points, I would not EVER be in the Elite Club.

As for the pp that stated that we shouldn't discuss how this will effect us personally...I think it is important to have the viewpoints of small contract owners from the perspective of how this would effect overall enjoyment of the DVC product by owners.

As a small contract owner, I already have disadvantages to owners with more points. I can't reserve at other resorts at 11 months, I can't double book a reservation, and I have to be VERY sure of myself when I invite family along because it may take 2 years of my points to do it!

I guess I would be ok if they gave the Commodore Club free merchandise, or knowing Disney...allowed them to purchase merchandise with Commodore Club insignias, or even gave them lithographs or something.Other than that...please leave it alone.

The more you use it, the more benefits you get. Continental: Bags come out first, quicker check-in, no charge for extra bag, the occasional free upgrade. It's not like they make you sit with the bags if you are not elite, you just get more benefits.

I'm all for it and if the benefits are worth the extra points, i'll buy more, if not i'm still happy with what i've got.

We are all very fortunate to belong to this club.

the word elite was not my chosen choice, but was in the opening thread,

I do dissagree however any thing that gives CC members or whatever they are going to be called earlier booking windows takes from core(your choice of phrase) members.

If DVC decides to allow an earlier booking window for their Commodore/Elite Club, doesn't that mean that DVC could essentially be franchising out their reservation system? Kind of like scalpers controlling ticket sales by being allowed to buy huge blocks at a time. I'm not so sure that would be ok with anyone - including DVC.

It no different than Disney giving a different booking windows for repeat Disney Cruise Guests or Southwest Airlines frequent flyer's getting free drink coupons and Business Class getting to pre-board.

OK, so at 160 points you would be considered the "hillbilly cousin". I only own 150 points...I guess I would be considered the bum on the street looking for a handout....

By the way, I am really completely kidding!! I am not worrying about this right now, I just thought the hillbilly cousin comment was really funny! :happytv:

Maybe the Elite Club will get free valet parking. ;)
