Anyone else get the DVC survey re: DVC 'elite' club?

The BLT groupies thread is ever changing and new info and opinions are always being added, while this thread is just a continuation of the same. No comparsion.

Plus you have nonDVC interested in BLT and reading that thread.

OK - I give. :goodvibes

My point was, as members we have very little impact on what Disney decides to do. And even if you put all of the active members together who follow and post on Disney related internet websites, it's a very small percentage of the total DVC Membership.

As a high point owner, I would love to have certain perks such as a booking window advantage.
That said, I understand perks like that would indeed be unfair to others. I have 1400 points, but I put myself in other Members positions and I know I would be mad if the perks started at 1500.
Therefor I agree that certain perks, basically the ones that would directly affect others membership, would be unfair.

There will always be someone who is mad no matter what you do or don't do. That's the way life is, you can't make everyone happy, even at Disney. ::MickeyMo

We bought AKV after talking to our Guide and getting reassurances that our deal was the best deal that would be offered. Two weeks after we closed, they offered developer points as an incentive. Is that fair? Not really. Did I complain, you bet. Disney's response, to bad.

I didn't say that, I said we all pay dues however much they are.
Maybe I didn't word it well. We all do not pay the same amount of dues as a percentage of what it costs for us to be members.

That I agree with and I agree that our discussion of this will not affect their decision at all.

While I now have 1000 points - they are all 50-70pt contracts and I had planned on selling some off as my son gets older. If there were perks I would delay such sale if they appealed to me.

But, I approach it the same way Disney does - looking at the bottom line.

They could care less about keeping DVC people or any Disney guest happy - ie look at what has happend with the dining quality.

Finally we agree! :banana::banana::love::banana::banana:

We agree on more than not, I just never bring that up. :lmao::thumbsup2

However I do agree also with DVCMike that I don't think that DVC wants to alienate a large percentage of the membership, as that would be bad for business too.

DVC obviously feels member referrals are important or they would not offer incentives for referrals. If they PO a large percentage of the membership they will see a decline in referrals.

Obviously but I think they could do many of things here and NOT PO the majority of the membership enough to matter. I think that's the fundamental difference between the 2 sides in this discussion, that it IS workable without getting the majority upset.

Members are members....period. Dividing up membership perks by amount of points owned, or referrals made is NOT COOL, in my opinion and I for one would be very unhappy with DVC if this was done.

We don't own a ton of points, but have had a few referrals join (with more coming at that), and idea of offering extra perks because of our amount of referrals or amount of points tics me off!

You already received extra perks for referrals, it's called money. The more you refer, the more money you get.

I should be ticked off. Because we live in Texas, we receive $0 for our referrals. Is that fair? Does it stop Disney from letting some, but not all members receive referral incentives, no it doesn't.

I agree and that direction would not bother me at all.

Well now, you could always move. ;)

You know I am kidding but could not resist.

I'm not sure that's accurate, I'm not sure you'd be happy with many options they could do. IMO they could do everything here that has been mentioned and still not make most people upset enough to matter.

Actually it is accurate, nothing mentioned here would truly bother me, while I appreciate your wealth of knowledge on many things, I think my mind is still mine. :thumbsup2

There is a difference in not preferring something versus it being upsetting. I did not prefer the change to banking, point reallocation but not upset about it.

Besides you have no idea how many points we have, so this is probably a mute point anyway, more than likely we would be covered.

I am currently well off on points.....

But I remember that in the beginning that Disney treated me well when we had very humble beginnings....

I would hate for Disney to lose that. Being gracious and kind shows class....

My opinion is that if enough members disagree- meaning that extra perks should not be given- that may be exactly what the World wants to hear and they may go ahead & offer it up.
Disney is a business and like any other they need to make money. Yes they are awesome at what they do, but bottom line is to stay viable & profitable. If that means offering incentives to larger "contributors" in an effort to encourage them to stay and continue their "contributions" that's what they may do.
Also, from a marketing standpoint, if they hold out a bone as if to say "this is what you could have too," more members may step up their game and boost DVC's revenues. It's what we all did when we bought into DVC. It's a way better way to vacation thanks to the perks. (btw- I only have 210pts)

That was my point in part, that there is being upset and then there is being upset. There was quite an uproar about the banking window changes, booking method change and re-allocation but it was mostly ranting and no action. So you'd be OK with removing some current perks, establishing a priority system including advance reservation window, and eliminating resale buyers from those perks, at least going forward, instituting a few fees like banking, borrowing and transfers only to reduce or eliminate those fees as part of the VIP packages? IMO it shouldn't matter how many points you have, if it's an OK thing it's OK whether it helps or hurts a given person. Establishing one's philosophical position related to personal impact is intellectually dishonest. Not trying to speak for you but rather interpreting how you present yourself on DIS and my impression is you would not be OK with some of the options based on those interpretations. Since it appears I'm wrong in that interpretation, even better because that puts you far closer to my position than I had anticipated.
