We ate a late lunch on Thur 4/14 at Le Celllier. In all we liked our meals - the soup was the best and the pretzel bread. DH, however, got very sick after eating there. It had to be the food - he got so violently ill that we had to leave the park and he was sick all night long. He ate the sliced prime rib sandwich, the soup (which we all ate) and had the 'end of the world' beer. He only had one beer and he drinks beer a couple times a week with certain meals in the summer months. I don't think it was the beer. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen? Do we let anyone know?

Why do you think it "had to be the food"?? I always wonder why people are so sure....after working in an ER for many years and hearing hundreds of people that are "sure it is the food" I still don't know. If the assumption is because they got sick soon after eating....I don't know of any form of food borne illness that causes symptoms within an hour or 2 of eating...most are a minimum of 6 to 8 hours and often much longer. If it was a food borne illness chances are it would be more related to what he ate for breakfast than for lunch.

I agree. It sounds like something didn't agree with him as opposed to the food actually being bad.

A lot of people have allergies or sensitivities which will cause GI problems. It's very possible the OP's husband has a food allergy that he isn't even aware of, and that caused the symptoms he experienced.

For food poisoning to be likely, you have to have a cluster of diners becoming ill within a similar time frame. It does happen but not as often as people who get sick after eating think.

wether it is actual food poisoning from bad food or just an individual response to a certain food or spice in that food the food MUST be blamed if the symptoms come on within 15 minutes of eating. If you get sick alot later than that the food is most likely not to blame [at least that is what WEB MD says].

Unfortunately, I'm a food poisoning expert (I have had it 2 times). The ER said that it takes several hours, sometimes longer, for food poisoning to kick in. We know for sure that it was food poisoning in my case because several people came into the hospital with the same symptoms, and we all ate at the same place. Sorry your DH got sick though! Ugh! That's so terrible to be sick while on vacation. Maybe he had a stomach flu? My DS caught a fast moving stomach flu on our last WDW trip. He was throwing up for 24 hours, then was fine.

I got food poisoning in Myrtle Beach last April. the sypmtoms started about 2 hours after I ate, maybe not even that long. It is entirely possible for only 1 person to become ill if for instance that person ate 1 bad clam, or 1 bad oyster (such as in my case). Becoming violently ill suddenly is a pretty good clue. Having food poisoning is like nothing I have ever experienced and hope to never experience again. It is not a good thing to have happen while on vacation, that is for sure, I am sorry that you became ill.

I've had he happy experience (or experiences) of having food poisoning THREE times. :( Not only do you feel like you are going to die.. after awhile you actually hope you will so the misery will end. :)

Seriously, our last trip to WDW, 6 hours after a turkey leg, my DH was violently ill... coincidence? Maybe, but I don't think he'll be having one of those ever again.

I am a RN and I have worked in a hospital.......that being said....I developed food poisoning AT WDW a few hours after eating at Tangaroa Terrace. It was not Disney's fault....my Mom put some RAW meat on her plate, then scrapped it off and put the cooked meat on. In hindsight they should NOT have had the raw meat any where NEAR the cooked meat....but I still don't blame Disney...it was her fault.

I wound up in the hospital for 2 months with Samonella and I dropped 40lbs. I was 85lbs when I came home...not good.

So for everyone yelling that it takes HOURS for food poisoning to show up....bull...I speak from experience.

I second or third the short time span. I got violently ill within an hour and a half of eating bad raw clams. I actually felt worse much sooner, but the vomiting hit 90 minutes later and I thought I was going to die. An hour after it started, I wished I would die. I didn't realize others also got hit, until several days later, when the hospital put 2 + 2 together and realized several had reported having had clams from our local supermarket within a few days of each other. I think the op is trying to see if anyone else on the board happened to be there the same time as her and had a reaction. It took me over 25 years to eat a raw clam again..and then I had one or two, and I remembered once again, and stopped. My stomach hurts just remembering.

I also agree-as an RN I have seen and personally experienced food poisoning-the symptoms can occur as quickly as 2-3 hrs later, depends on the amount of contaimination in the food. And another sign is that it does feel like you are going to die until you get every last bit out!!!!Yuck!!!

I know there is a Wicked and I mean wicked stomach virus going around.. I got it about 3 weeks ago, it hit suddenly and I was violently ill... Dh, DD, FIL, My mom and dad all got it... I felt perfectly fine and then WHAM!!!!

Last trip to WDW, my wife took sick on the second or third day of our trip, so badly that we had to call out a doctor. Our initial suspicion was something she had eaten at Disney or on the flight from the UK. The doctor said this was improbable, because when there is bad food at a restaurant there are many victims all calling their doctors, and word soon goes around the local medical community that such and such restaurant served bad food on such & such date. That wasn't so in my wife's case.

In fact my wife's problems continued throughout our vacation and after we returned home. After several months, two short stays in hospital and many tests, she was diagnosed as having Crohn's. It was pure coincidence that the symptoms first manifest themselves when we arrived at WDW.

This is very true about the food allergies or sensitivities. I NEVER know when this is going to happen to me, and have no idea what triggers it but it will hit me before I leave the restaurant. It is like my stomach is rejecting it. It comes on quickly but is relatively short lived.

I just have to remember to bring some kind of stomach meds since I am trying more sit-down meals this trip which will probably involve something my stomach doesn't like. I do try to stay away from rich sauces and oils.

Just a thought for anyone else who may think they have these allergies or sensitivities.

Whew! Yes! I hold my hand up...I was a victim of food poisoning....I felt queasy about 3 hours after the meal but it took 6 for mine to go into full blown wreckage. I was hospitalized...didn't lose 45 pounds (ouch!!!) but I did lose 15 pounds in 3 days...and it's true...I LOVE my life, I feel blessed to have been given this life to live...but I hate to admit it I prayed earnestly to die. I have had many stomach flus over my life...and on a scale of 1-10 a stomach flu is a 3 and a poisoning is a 12. I've had 3 children with over 40 hours of labor on 2 of them with no meds....that's a cakewalk compared to this experience.

My guess would be two causes of the food poisoning..mine was bad mayonnaise...and with the sandwich he had it could have been the meat or even more likely the horseradish/mayo sauce they put on the meat. It's very easy for bacteria to grow in those mediums. Think about it you are dipping knives back and forth into the sauce to spread it and what if someone "borrows" that knife to trim some raw uncooked meat...oila...misery.

I'm soo sorry this happened to you...

I know of only 2 cases of food poisioning of personal experience.

We ate lunch at Teppanyaki in Japan, the cook was kidding around and threw the raw steak on my brothers plate, we all kind of laughed and looked at each other, thinking, we should ask for new plate.
My brother said don't make a scene, it is no big deal. That night he got so violently ill and we had to put him in a wheelchair (it was out day to return home), to get him from the car to the plane.

The other time was my hubby and I had hot wings from a airport hotel bar BEFORE we left for our trip. The next morning (about 7 hours later), we started getting sick, and full blown on the plane that morning and the rest of the day. We got sick within 30 minutes of each other and knew it was the hot wings. I will never eat hot wings again.

How terrible to be sick on the plane! That must have been a nightmare for you both!

Yes, it was on a trip to Playa del Carmen, our first trip by ourselves since both of our children were born.
We made numerous trips up and down the aisle. When we were going up and down (when you have to stay in your seatbelt), I just prayed I wouldn't humilate myself.

Then on the shuttle to Playa, at every resort stop, we jumped out and got sick at every bathroom. We told the bus driver not to leave us. Everyone in the bus knew it was us they were waiting on.

we get to the resort and our room was not ready for about 4 hours, I laid on the bathroom floor in the lobby for the whole time, in the stall. I wanted to die.

worst thing was we were so ready to "party" eating and drinking at our all inclusive resort, but our sore stomachs didn't leave room for that.

My mom got sick on a plane, not once but twice...2 separate times. She and my dad were travelling to HI and she had macadamia nuts on the plane. She was so violently ill that they laid her down in first class (they were first class passengers) with a towel on her head. The same thing happened a second time and 2+2= macadamia nut allergy.
