Anyone else get mixed feelings?

My first ever solo trip is nearly here (May) and I've got some great things planned including meeting other Dis'ers, but one minute I feel really excited and then another I'm feeling a little nervous.

I really don't like flying so the flight is the one thing I'm really not looking forward to (but I'll do it to get to my favourite place :goodvibes ), but it's the thought of arriving at the hotel and being on my own that first night.

Does anyone else ever feel like this?

I have to say no. . .but I know many other who disagree with me. Most people I know do not like flying alone . . . I don't have an issue with it cause I skydive. I am not the best judge however. . .lets see who else responds.

Most people will be nervous before doing anything new. I assume you've flown before so you know what it's like. I'll assume you've also been to WDW before so you know what it's like. There shouldn't be any difference between going alone or with others, other than the freedom to always do what you want. :goodvibes

I guess even when I was married I was independent enough that it doesn't bother me when I travel alone. Some people it does though, and that's Ok. For the plane- if you like to read, find a book you've REALLY been looking forward to reading, and then set it aside and don't touch it til you get to the airport. There's always a Starbucks trip when I'm in an airport.

At the hotel... I requested a room in a well lit area so I'd feel safe, and that turned out great. As far as being alone in the hotel room- any time I'm out of town since my divorce, I take my laptop and some DVDs. Again, something I've really been looking forward to watching and I save it til the trip. Then if I can't sleep or am feeling weird, I've got some fun entertainment and that helps me relax.

Really though, I had too much time to feel nervous for long. Hugs!

I know how you feel.. I somewhat have mixed feelings for my upcoming solo trip.. mainly because I've never gone anywhere by myself..

The only time that I have flown alone was last year.. DH stayed behind in Florida to spend time with his family after our WDW trip and I flew home alone..

Im not hugely behind flying to begin with but I know it'll get me where I want to go, which is Disney.. so I am very excited for my first solo trip.. Cant wait to get off that plane and head to the ME bus.. :thumbsup2

I'm so relieved I'm not the only one :goodvibes

traveling alone does not bother me. Flying on the other hand makes me a wreck. I have a great dr. I call and say I'm flyng next week, she calls in the Xanax. It's the only thing that helps and that's the only time I use it. I just take one to take the edge off. Talk to your dr. You can also take Benedryl if perscriptions scare you.

Hi Clare!
I'm also a wreck when I fly but I just keep thinking I'm going to Disney I'm going to Disney! Once I'm there I don't have any time to be scared!~Too busy running around to all my favorite places! I'm going to be down in the World till the 9th of May so if you want to meet up on the 8th let me know! I'm friends with Aubriee and Penn Conn and Adrian so they can vouch for me that I'm not a wierdo! lol:rotfl: Well hmmm maybe they wont cuz I am kinda wierd.:lmao:

LOL that's what I keep thinking when I'm on that plane, it didn't help that I was flying on a 777 (re. the negative press) so I've now changed airlines and am flying on a 747, and am much happier!

Thanks for the offer but I'm already out on the 8th otherwise I would have loved to have met, I'm sure they would have given you a glowing character reference :rotfl:

Flying itself is not an issue for me, but I haven't managed to get past feeling like I was cattle or a prison convict when going through all the humiliating security rigmarole. I avoid flying these days. When I have a reasonable choice travel time-wise, I take the hassle-free and much more comfortable train in lieu of flying.

Hi

I can understand the duel feelings between being excited and nervous! I am hoping to do a solo trip, I hate flying and I have never been on holiday alone. THe thing that is bothering me more than that though is the driving. I'm from England and am ok driving here, but the thought of driving in Florida is scaring me!!

I don't want to stay on site so I have to have a car and I have been to Disney several times and know the rough layout of places, but the thought of driving alone ... !!

Hope you have a fab time though - make sure you come back and tell us how amazing it was :goodvibes

:drive: After driving in several countries where people drive on the left, the most common problem I encountered back here in the U.S. was pulling out of parking lots on the wrong side of the street into oncoming traffic. Fortunately, no accidents but probably a few more gray hairs after each wrong-way driving incident. So when you get to Florida just be extra careful when pulling out of a driveway to be certain you enter the right side of the street.

I just got back from my first solo trip, well partially solo anyway, I had 4 days by myself before my cousin joined me, I was extremely nervous before the trip but once I got to Disney everything was fine. I was afraid I would hate not having someone to talk to but I found myself talking to other people in line and to the CMs more than when I was with someone and I loved it. It was so interesting talking to other people from so many places and finding out their thoughts on things. I had such a great time I've booked another solo trip for August!

I'm also a nervous flier, I live in the Atlanta area so it's only about an hour flight and Zanax is a wonderful thing!:goodvibes

I've been debating whether to ask my sister to join me. I'm not really nervous about being solo, but have only done trips of a few days for work. This one will be a little longer, and I'm wondering if I'll get lonely--especially since I'm an introvert, so I don't know how good I'll be at striking up conversations with strangers.

I'm planning my first solo trip for the end of April and am having mixed feelings as well. I'm not flying - driving for 12 hours instead :scared1: - which may be my first and last time driving to WDW.

I don't mind going by myself anywhere but after a week of my own company, I might start chatting with an obliging rock. Knowing Disney, though, the rock might talk back!

I know I'll have a wonderful time - I'm just having a case of the never-done-this-before jitters.

Thank you for starting this thread - it's good to know others are and have been in the same boat AND have had a marvelous time after all.

I just got back from my first solo trip a week and a half ago. I have mixed feelings about it too. I've travelled many times on my own so I wasn't nervous about that, but I have to admit that it just felt weird being at WDW on my own. I did really enjoy being able to hit the rides I wanted to when I wanted to and to be able to set my own pace. I also liked being able to do rides that I normally don't do when I'm with my son like Rock N' Roller Coaster or Expedition Everest. But I really wish I'd been there with someone else to enjoy the fun and I really missed my son alot, I'd been to WDW when I was younger, but all trips in recent years have been with him, I really felt his absence after a few days. I also never noticed before this trip that the solo person at WDW is sort of the odd one out, it's always families. That said, I did really enjoy the trip. I'm glad I had the opportunity to do it, I kind of feel like now when I'm there with my son I won't feel like I'm missing out the other stuff I don't normally get a chance to do.

That's understandable, I think everyone is nervous before their first solo trip. Or their first trip to a new place. It's fear of the unknown. I can't speak to fear of flying, because I love to fly. In any case, I think it'll go away once you arrive at WDW.

I think you've done a great job scheduling meals with other DISers, so you'll have some socializing to look forward to throughout your trip. That's really smart. The key to not being lonely when you travel alone is to keep busy doing things you love. Just be your friendly self everywhere you go--chat with CMs, other people in line, etc., and you should be fine. :thumbsup2

My favorite line is "no one else could afford to go and I could. . .so I still get my caviar right?" 50 points for those who guess which movie

Thanks, I'm also meeting friends (who I've met before) from another site so I've definitely got plenty to keep me out of trouble lol - looking forward to the Blue Zoo :goodvibes
