Anyone Else Forgo Mousekeeping?

I skip it as much as possible. I'm one of those germaphobe guests who disinfects the room on arrival and really doesn't want anyone in there touching my stuff. I do get fresh towels every couple of days.

I ask because it comes up a lot with timeshare/DVC type stays and I had no idea that daily housekeeping was such a big deal.

Me!! I love to come back to the room and my bed is just how I left it. I bring my own pillow case and top sheet (for the soft familiar fabric). I clean on arrival, germaphobe, slightly OCD. My kids don't care either way. My husband would love daily housekeeping, beds made, but you know, happy wife-happy life, so we skip housekeeping most days. We usually get one cleaning half way through.

Glad I'm not alone in this! :-)

You definitely have a sister in me, I bring my own pillow and blanket :)

I also wipe down everything in the room upon arrival (how many stomach bugs do I read about here?!) but I love when housekeeping comes every day. We go through towels like mad, and I have boys, so there's a general cloud of dust that follows them wherever they go. Plus, I love coming back to the room to see crisp sheets folded just so, clean glasses, refilled toiletries, tea and water. We leave a tip every day, too.

DH loves housekeeping and thinks I'm nuts but I can't get past visions of the staff cleaning the sink with the same cloth that they used on the toilet or, if I get really paranoid, my toothbrush.

Prolly should stay off YouTube!

We don't spend dawn to dusk at the parks, so if we come back to the room and it has not been serviced yet, then we just put out the do not disturb sign. If we need towels, we call housekeeping, and they bring them. There is only the two of us, how dirty can we make a room in one night.

We don't get them in daily, but we can make a room look like a party happened in there. They come 2-3 times over a week stay.

We wipe down our room but more so because of previous guests and not mousekeeping. We have no issues having mousekeeping coming to our room.

I'm not a germaphope and don't wipe down anything, I like to live on the edge. We do, however, skip housekeeping and get it about every 2 or 3 days instead. There are normally plenty of towels in the room to last a few days (I don't change my towel every day at home, why would I need it changed on vacation) and I just don't like them rearranging everything. I usually pick up after myself anyway so it's basically just making the bed for us. We hang the DND sign out until we want them. We tend to do split stays with 2 days at a moderate and the rest at a deluxe so definitely don't need them during the first leg.

I'm another that brings my lysol wipes with me and wipes down things upon arrival because I don't want previous guests germs or the possibility of getting ill on vacation. I'm slightly OCD and a germophobe. We normally put the DND sign out upon arrival and then if we should need more towels or something we'll just ask the Mousekeepers when we see them.

Our room doesn't get dirty enough in a week to warrant extra cleanings, so I don't care if they come. I don't like when they take perfectly good towels for washing - don't want them to waste detergent on a clean towel. I don't even want the bed made. Made beds make more work for me, as I probably left the bed in a state that it was comfortable for sleeping in.

If they haven't cleaned our room yet when we get back for a break/swim, we put out the DND sign. However, I am not a germaphobe, and there is no way I'm cleaning a hotel room when I get there. Our room doesn't get terribly dirty, we take care of our own trash, spills, etc.

There is nothing as relaxing as getting into a nicely made bed at the end of the day. my DH and I are constantly kicking sheets around and our blankets are always askew. We don't make the bed every day at home, so we def aren't doing it on vacation. We will definitely allow mousekeeping.

Never occurred to me to wipe down our room with lysol wipes until reading this thread!
Geesh, now I have another thing to pack...

When we did dvc rental, we thought we might miss daily housekeeping but did not mind at all.

My husband hates letting housekeeping in the room when we vacation, but I like the feel of a room tidied up by someone else. I have been known to clean hotel bathtubs before using them.
