anyone else feel a little let down from code expectations

Yes, I was pretty disappointed. Got on the phone about 7 am yesterday morning and waited an hour. We're booked with a lagoon room at the Poly from Jan 12 to Jan. 17 (MLK wkd.). I didn't realize it, but they blocked out MLK weekend from any discount codes. Although I did get the AP discount on the 12th and 13th, we're having to pay rack rate for 3 nights! Okay, so I've learned that they block out discount rates for busier wkds. but the AP rate for this resort was still not that great. It wasn't even 25% off. I was hoping for at least 30% off. Oh well!

Okay, so I got back on the phone to inquire about my dates of Jan 6-9 at POR under an AP rate and had the disney website up showing me those dates available at the winter resort rate for water view of $111.50 per night.

Was told nothing available under AP rate, informed them of the $111.50 rate on the website and still wasn't offered anything.

I decided to take the room at $111.50 so I at least have the dates I REALLY wanted, and just keep checking back to see if I can get it reduced down to an AP rate at some point. $22.50 a night off rack rate is better than nothing. I've become an AP rate junkie, kills me to think of paying rack rate!

Thanks to everyone for all of your input throughout my various posts. I will try to return the favors in the future.

Not really disappointed, but I never make out well with discount codes--of course every little bit helps. I always have to travel during peak times and so the discounts are not as plentiful or generous. I had Pop for 102.50 incl. tax per night Feb. 25-27 with a AAA rate. I saved 29.00 total with the new code. :wave2:

The thing is not everyone has to have an AP to get the AP discount - they can buy it and then turn in the voucher when they arrive, so it does not seem to be any real advantage to be holding an AP. Hmmm... Disney knows thier stuff and probably have more folks booking at the "discounted" rate codes than if they kept those codes as yr round prices!!

I booked Pop Cent. at rack rate a few weeks ago just to have somewhere to hang my hat, hoping to get a moderate for about the same $$ when codes came out. All moderate standard view rooms were taken by the time I got through so I took AllStar Mo for $22/night less than the ressie I had. Not all I wanted, but it's not over yet, Three or four years ago I started out with AllStar Mu ay $107 and changed ressies twice, ending up with PO/R for $99. I still think I'll get some nights at a moderate for $85 before we go.

By the way:

When I was on the phone making my reservation, I took the winter resort rate of $111.50, but mentioned to the cm that I would just keep trying back to see if I could get it switched over to an AP rate at some point.

He then told me two interesting things:

1. When someone cancels a reservation that room goes immediately back into the system and is up for grabs at whatever rate it was held at.

2. You can try and modify your reservation to a "better rate" (an AP rate, Floridat resident) up until 20 minutes before you check in!

In order not to be charged a night's stay you still must cancel a reservation five days out, but I never knew the "20 minute" rule!

A charge to cancel after 5 days, but not to change to another resort - you can change your reservation right up until that 20 mins prior, as he told you!!!

It is great to know!

Made ressies in June for 2/21-28 at Pop with no discounts for $135.00 per night tax included. On hold for 55 mins morning code was released and was able to up grade to POFQ for $127.00 per night. First time out of a value due to codes, the night before I would have had to pay $188.00 per night for POFQ, So all and all was able to up grade to a moderate and saved $54.37 from first ressie.

It is really strange how all of this works - I have AKL through 01/16 at the AP discount rate. My DH just told me to call to see if I could add 01/17 and I could not at AKL but I could have CR tower at AP rate. I am already moving once because I can't find all of the nights at one place and I refuse to move again for one additional night. So we will come home 01/16 as planned. But, in my case there is no problem getting a discount over MLK weekend - the tough time I had was 01/06 to 01/09. It took me a number of calls to find AP rates for those nights.

I called a few days ago to get the AP rate applied to my ressie, which includes MLK weekend. (1/10-1/17)

The applied it with no problem. Then today (Friday) I called back to see if the BDP code could be applied instead. (I was going to buy an AP, but this saves me money because now I only have to buy a 5-Day park hopper.) I got that with no blackouts as well.

VERY happy!! I saved a TON of money. But I'm curious as to why some of us are getting discounts on the blackouts and others aren't.

That and the fact that the CM at check in doesn't even ask to see the AP. No one asked me at check in a few weeks ago for the AP.

I got the special code rate at AKL over those dates. Maybe they were just all gone?

Let down? Nope. Something is better than nothing.

Have to say though, I want my May codes. January to April does me no good whatsoever.

I wasn't too hopeful reading the Boards but yesterday I got BDP rate for CR JAN 6 and 7 Tower room for $295 / night including tax.
It's more than we planned for these nights but we can't resisit the chance of being there
We are so excited!
