Anyone else fearing the Christmas menu this year?

I'm going to my sister's for Christmas Eve for a small get-together. There will just be four or five people for gifts, appetizers and socializing. However, my sister is not only a lazy cook, but a horrible one. I'll never forget the night we had "quesadillas" at her place. Here is her recipe (which she actually invented herself! Can you believe it? ;) She's very proud of it)):

Take one flour tortilla and one slice of Kraft processed Singles.
Lay cheese on top of tortilla. Roll. Microwave.
Fiesta!

:crazy2:

I hope whatever she's serving this year comes out of a box. I think I'll eat BEFORE I get there. ;)

That's pretty bad! :lmao: My 15 yr. old son can make quesadillas better than that. :lmao:

Perhaps you use the same quesadilla recipe. ;)

OMG, no!!!!!
Blasphemy!!!
I am a bit of a foodie, and I could not imagine anybody serving this to guest!!!

But, neither would I come and post anything close to the original post.

I just don't see it as public comment worthy, or funny in the least.

:rotfl: This entire thread is cracking me up! It's as if people are close, personal friends with the OP's sister.

OP, I feel your pain. My sister is a horrific cook, too. She's famous for putting Kraft singles on everything. :lmao: Her best two dishes were the cheesy home fries (potatoes) with corn flakes on top. She didn't have corn flakes so she put Frosted Flakes on it.

Her other one, which we were all rolling over, was her pasts salad. It called for dried cranberries. She couldn't find them in the store, so she bought GRANOLA with dried cranberries in it, and added that to the pasta salad.

We all openly mock her to her face (with love, of course :lovestruc ) and she takes it really well, so it's all good. She jokes that she does it on purpose so no one will ask her to bring a dish anymore. It's working!

OMG that is too funny. My family is the same, if my sister put Frosted Flakes on the "famous hash brown caserole" I would never let her forget it :rotfl2:
:santa:

LOL!

My girl's think all grilled cheese is bad b/c their step-grandma made it for them once. Only, grandma didn't use butter as she was trying to make it "healthy".

We did tell our girls that grandma did not make it correctly.

Step-grandma (my stepmom) has unusual ideas for making dishes "healthy" when their very premise is unhealthy. It is ridiculous.

:lmao: Yes I seriously laughed out loud!

I did, too! I think it was the "Fiesta!" part that cracked me up! :lmao: Sort of like the breakfast scene in the movie "Sixteen Candles" where the one MIL is busily cooking bacon and eggs for everyone, while the other MIL just pops open a box of Entenmann's donuts and exclaims "Breakfast is served!". :happytv:

I'm sure that the OP loves her sister, but come on, that recipe IS pretty funny, and I'm definitely not the most accomplished cook in the world.

I'm dreading my sister in law's "Famous Breakfast Tea Ring". The first year she made it, it was not cooked all the way through. Last year it was, but just wasn't very good to me. I will eat a little piece as not to be rude, but inside I'll dread it!!

Tis the season to lighten the heck up!! Enjoy some random banter from other DIS members and quit trying to be the post manner police. It was obvious there was no malicious intent towards this family member by the OP, just sharing. Lots of posts are here are in reference to trivial matters such as this - what's the b.f.d. with this one?

OP, I have an aunt like this. I have to give her credit for trying, but decorating the deviled eggs with raisins has left it's impact on me.

Now that one made me think of the movie Better Off Dead. Do you remember the crazy food that mom made? This made me think of that slimy green dessert she made just before Ricky's mom blew up (Ricky, I'm sorry your mom blew up).

"It has raisins in it. You LIKE raisins!" :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

I went to a good friend's house the other night for a get together. We all know going to her house will not be gourmet and it will end up being a mystery entree. Yes, I always bring something at her request but nothing to upstage her.

I told her as we were cleaning up the kitchen that it was a good thing she was hot because she sure can't cook worth a damn. She laughed and said "how do you think I got my husband it sure wasn't because of my cooking":rotfl:

Haha! That is pretty horrid. But as others have suggested, drink wine!

OP - this is exactly the place to post! Air it here, rather than somewhere that sis can overhear.

(although, my niece found me quite by accident here on the DISBoards. thank heavens I haven't posted anything I wouldn't want her to know about!)

It reminds me of when I first met my DMIL and her husband, they were on some diet plan. I love potatos, never met one I didn't love. She made flaked mashed potatos with no salt and butter buds instead of butter and an entire cake with sweet and low. She microwaved a ham which I don't eat but I couldn't even manage to choke down polite bites of the food and my future FIL yelled at me for insulting his wifes cooking!! yikes. I make it clear to any and all I don't excpect or want to be fed

I guess I just took it the way I thought the OP posted. I didn't find it bad as the OP said she hasn't posted anything that we on the board could use to contact the sister.

Haha. Love that movie. But, seriously? What if Ricky's mom read this? Nothing funny about it at all........
