Anyone else enjoy the drive to WDW?

we live in michigan and hate the drive! 8 hours would be a piece of cake ..try 22!

Ditto - for us Hartford Ct to Disney is about 22 hours. Add 4 kids and driving on Rt 95 (especially in NJ and Washington DC) I'll tell you how much I love the drive!

There is a certain Railroad bridge we drive under in Tennessee, when I hit that mark I usually am very relaxed. I enjoy the trip down but truelly dislike the drive back. One trip we had to drive back as a Hurricane was coming in, traffic was a Nightmare! Shawnpirate:

we always enjoy the drive - it's about 45 minutes ... :rotfl:
we don't even mind the drive home!

MN. for us so the shortest ever was like 26 hours its usually about 28 -My husband and I split the driving so its his turn 1st and then me overnight for 8-12 hours then him while I sleep and when I wake up Usually we are getting in to Florida and that last few hours are the hardest for me -

We drive to the World for Christmas week every year! As we get older the trip seems to be harder on our bodies! The girls are great never do they ask the dreaded are we their yet? We have a 20-21 hour drive from Northern Wisconsin so all you from ATL with your 8 hours! Eat my Cheese my Acadia just got warmed up! I really prefer to fly but it never fails a snow storm comes the week of Christmas somewhere and it messes up my trip. So we take the travel in our own hands and make the drive and never loose a day because of cancelled airlines. You all that can do it in less than 8 hours why arent you there now? I cant even imagine what it would be like to jump in the car after b-fast and be at Disney for Dinner....

After reading about all the 20+ hour drives I am very thankful for my 8.5 hour escapades! The shortest stay at WDW I've done is a three nighter, just DW and me. I would probably do that again but I think four may become my minimum!

Wife and I love driving there from NJ. I get a little crazy at times, always trying to beat the previous time getting there (14.5 hrs) ;) We prefer driving over flying. We go according to our own schedule and no rush. My 5 yo loves it, although he's starting to get the "are we there yet" itis.... My wife just gave birth 2 weeks ago, new addition (another baby boy) to the family. So it'll be awhile before we have a road trip. bummer. Perfect time for me to bank some points for a bigger room...:cool1:

South of the Border is a really cheesy place to stay about 1 hour over the SC border. They have cheep motels, a strip mall to buy cheep stuff, places to eat, and a gas station. We have stopped there once for the novelty, but never have stayed there.

When we have driven, (7 times) we have done all sorts of things to mark the miles and pass the time. We try to stop every 2.5 hours just to get out and stretch. Then each time we hit a new state, I break out a silly game. We have a car bingo that we do; I made cards with things like road signs, license plates with different states, and things to read the advertisement. Then I give out Disney dollars for the winners. I have also done Disney trivia and have done map quests. I take old Disney maps and then have everyone look for things on the maps like the closest bathroom to the entrance, or the farthest ride from where we are having dinner....again winners get Disney Dollars.

Those things really do help them pass the time. For the ride back we have usually picked up something they can play with in the car from Disney and I save some games and videos too.

Hope this helps.

Cheryl

South of the Border is just a few YARDS south of the NC/SC border. It is not an hour over the border... It's a distant memory about a minute after you enter SC from NC...
