Anyone else dying inside from the exchange rate?!

Sigh....my $935 payment to the Vistana ended up being $1242 after it was converted....and that was using a credit card that doesn't charge foreign exchange  .

Ah well. It's only money :rolleyes1 . As my boss would say....."you make more everyday".

Booked universal and tickets for next year and they converted to canadian so I pay that way so not sure on the exact American price made it easier to swallow since I didn't see the conversion

This is a most excellent attitude. If it is worth it for you to spend that amount in C$ on an experience, does it really matter what an American pays in US$? It would probably be much easier for us to swallow this if we were on the Pound Sterling or Euro or Peso. I think half of our hang ups about this are that both currencies are called the dollar.

A while back some economists crunched a bunch of numbers to come up with a proper parity figure of 85 cents Canadian to the US dollar based on all the economic factors (GDP, taxes, average wages, etc etc). That was a few years ago, and things have shifted, but I am sure that underlying it all, the correct number would probably never be right at parity! Perhaps if we officially adopted the currency name of the "Loonie" then it wouldn't hurt so much doing these comparisons.

That's kind of how i'm looking at our Trip for next year. I would love for the dollar to be stronger, but I want to take my daughter to WDW more than I want to save the money. I can always save up and pay for it later, but you can't always make the memories later :(

Just a little bit. I'm leaving next Sunday (22nd) to drive down with my Mom - it is a trip to Miami area that must be done (long story) and next week is the only week I can go before December (I bake for a living and Christmas cookies consume my entire month), and I'm NOT driving in the snowy months. So it needs to be now.

The only plus is that I DO get to spend one day at Magic Kingdom. I'm assuming (we haven't chatted about it) that Mom will be paying the gas down, we'll split hotels, but I'll buy the Disney tickets. It is my reward for driving all the way there and back in a week!

So while I'm dreading the exchange and the drive, there is a bright spark to the whole thing!

I'm planning on going next October to celebrate my 21st anniversary of turning 29 ;), and if I wasn't getting the AP (so we can go back in 2017 as a family with less outlay on food and merch), it'd be lesss than the $2500 CAD I'm expecting it to cost due to exchange. And that's with a free flight on Airmiles (but there's $150 fees & taxes to pay), and military discount hotel price. The exchange is horrible. I can only hope it gets better between now and then.

I just managed to snag RT airfare for 2 from Pearson to MCO and a week at the Dolphin for $2000.00 CDN thru Travelocity.ca could I have done better putting it together in some other fashion, probably, am i super stoked anyway?? HECK YEAH, i didn't think we'd ever go back and now i only have to wait 44 days. Let the dancing begin

Now the cost of the tickets is gonna kill me i think!

If I was to tranfer CAD to get $100US, right now it would cost me $136.87 :thud:

Looks like the $ has us changing our plans. More than likely we are changing our cruise from Alaska 2016 to Bahamas January 2017. Even with airfare for that cruise (we don't need it for Alaska as we live in Vancouver) it's still way cheaper than Alaska :( Thinking Alaska will have to wait.....

Then that does free up some vacation time (and money) for 2016 so we can still plan another trip ;-)
