Don't most say that using points is an "expensive" use of points?

Do most "pay cash" if they want to do a Disney Cruise instead of using points?

We usually pay cash for our cruises as we've always had good luck booking really great deals.

Actually, the point charts have been changed for 2011. I ran the numbers, ran the numbers, ran the numbers, did a lot of thinking, considered our travel options, and booked with points.

Not sure if I posted on here yet but I was originally going to go in February but changed it to April. Got the deck we wanted and we've got 3 cabins in between us, but that's okay didn't want to be next door to my daughter and her boyfriend. LOL Looking forward to this vacation.

Here are our DVC point details:

2 8C oceanview cabins
6 people total: me, DH, DD11 in one cabin; Nana, DS13 and DS11 in the other
$2306.16 total per cabin = $4612.32 if oop

514 points for the cruise

However, we only have 160 per year, so we paid cash for one child and used points for the rest.

457 points x $7 per point value= $3199 + $400 + $95 fee = $3694.

(Yes, I could have rented my points and assigned the value at $10, $11, etc.)

There are a gazillion scenarios, but for our family and our vacation plans for the next few years, this seemed the best for us.

Just booked an aft balcony (I know it has a solid wall ) for May 2011. Very excited. We are platinium Princess cruisers, but are looking forward to the Disney Dream. I am anxious to hear reviews from the first cruisers in January.

We are doing the double dip in May, inside cabin with the virtual porthole. So excited to be on the new ship and have 2 days at CC!

We are sailing on the Dream on the July 4 weekend - so just one year from today! We booked two connecting balcony cabins for our daughters and us. We're looking forward to it very much.
