Anyone else concerned about the crowd increase?

Since reopening yes, you are correct as it was exactly that way when we came in July. Not this weekend. I don’t think they were prepared for this many people. Wait times were pretty close to posted times and sometimes longer.

Did you have EP at UO? Just curious

I was looking at UO's app a yesterday around 6 pm and about 2 hours ago, and wait times for most rides were insane. 100 minutes for Shrek?!? (last night and today) and Spiderman was 120?? I would expect that with HP and a handful of other rides but not those two?

It might also be that neither park was prepared for this weekend?

How can they not be prepared? WDW reservation system lets them set the attendance. They should be well aware of how many people are in the park. It can’t be a surprise. They need to make the adjustments, that is their business, handling crowds.
If they can’t handle this week, the next two months could get ugly.

The last I heard WDW was still selling tickets at the gates. My guessing is attendance may have boosted with the holiday.
Before we started going more frequently, I had no idea you had to book in advance for FPs, ADRs, etc. We walked up to the gate in 2017 on a Saturday, bought a ticket, and ended up on huge lines all day. (Now I know better) I'm guessing perhaps many people with the holiday weekend maybe heard about "low crowds" and bought tickets on the fly.

Parks may not have thought they'd reach their capacity based on their data, but if they're still selling tickets, they may have been within their allotted capacity but much closer to it than they'd thought.

Agree, they should make adjustments so the next two months don't get ugly, it's only going to get busier in all likelihood.

I just posted a longer post on another thread but I would NOT return to Disney until they fix this- ESPECIALLY for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. It KILLS me to say this- I am a HUGE Disney fan, but it is too crowded at these parks and you just can't escape that feeling. I sent an email of my post along with some other comments to Guest Communications, something I never thought I would do. Here is a copy of my other post-
Okay, so we are home from our 7 night 8-day trip. I LOVE Disney, was a Guest Relations and Tomorrowland attractions CM and have never had a bad Disney vacation, including this one. However, I have to be honest and say that I would not recommend going right now. It isn't that I felt unsafe (although I do think they could do more), but it just isn't as magical right now. My family has been 100s of times as well as to Disneyland Paris and Disneyland, and while we of course enjoyed this we also have been on everything tons of times and know we will be back. To be specific, I would stay away from Magic Kingdom (we did it Friday 10/9) and Hollywood Studios (we did it Tuesday 10/6). The size of these two parks is considerably smaller than the other two and you can definitely feel it as you move from place to place. The wait times you are seeing online for these two parks are accurate, and I would say that in general, after reading all of these posts and other sources, all of the wait times you are seeing are becoming more and more accurate. You feel more of that "herding" now than is typical as you stand in lines on the walkways and outside and just move from one line to the next. With FP I can grab 3 and usually pick up 2-3 more during the day- at Epcot, HS, AK that would just about give us everything we want to ride and free us up to hang out. There are some definite pros to no FP- the lines move again- no more stand and stop- and you can do a more orderly visit without as much park crossing (that lovely jog from Kilamjaro Safaris to Dinosaur back to FoP KILLS me lol!). But, overall, I just did not enjoy it as much. I have to admit, I am surprising myself writing this, I really thought I would never criticize "my" mouse, but it just is awkward.
As for safety- I would say there was a 90+% mask compliance and people did try to follow the markings. But, Disney did this wrong. Basically, they just measured every 6 feet and slapped down a strip. But, we had a party of 6, we can't all stand on that little strip so we stretched back to the strip behind us, and, of course, the next group was standing right there. And, if there was a party in front of us more than 2, they stretched back toward us. So I would say in most lines we were never more than 2-3 feet from other people. Plus Disney didn't make sure that the group in the row next to us, as the switchbacks happened, didn't also stretch out to being right next to us. I NEVER felt this at Universal in June they planned every line out perfectly, didn't attempt to add weird dividers, and made sure switchback standing next to each other didn't happen. Disney needs to go in and remove basically every other line. Yes, I know this is going to put more lines in the sun and outside, and that does suck. But when you are in line for 60-90+ minutes (as many of the waits were at HS and MK- and yes, they really were that long), right smack next to other people, the virus can spread even with masks. We are all hot and sweaty and moving those masks up and down all the time and every time you do that you expose yourself and others. Another thing Disney needs to do is give everyone a squirt of sanitizer before every boarding. While my family did this before and after, when you pull down on those lap bars, you have no idea what germs are on it. At Universal, I felt very safe knowing EVERY person got sanitizer on their hands right before they stepped on board. It didn't increase wait times and was super easy. This would also eliminate the need for "cleaning cycles". Also, at Universal, at every moving walkway, there was a person standing there with sanitizer and a rag constantly whipping down the handrails, I NEVER once saw this on any Disney moving walkway and didn't see it as much elsewhere as I did at Universal either.
I have no idea what Disney is doing with park capacity but I can tell you when all the lines are 50-90 minutes for E-rides and you still have that many people out and about walking around you have too many. I feel literally TERRIBLE saying this as so many of my friends just got laid off, but I'm sorry it just isn't good. While I don't think any of us will get the coronavirus from this (we were very consistent with well-filtered masks, distancing, hand washing, sanitizer, etc.), there is just an "ick" factor you can't help but feel when walking around with everyone wearing masks. It's like you can't get away from what is going on because it is constantly in your face. It just hurts the magic when you feel so herded and you feel too enclosed in the corona world. We will go back again when this is over. I WOULD consider going back to Universal during the virus but not Disney.
Again, this hurts my heart and soul in a way I am surprised about. I have always felt a traitor to Disney visiting any other park, and have never felt the magic quite like I do at Disney, but they let me down on this one.

We are locals, and were in Epcot on Friday, October 2, 2020... Spent the day and evening enjoying rides, and Food and Wine... and it really did not seem crowded... the only ride we really waited for was Test track, 50 minutes... everything else was just walking to the load zones, and maybe a few minutes... maybe like 10 minutes... It was easy to get food and drinks... there were some lines, most due to the social distancing markers, and people waiting to get up to the cashier and still not having any idea what they wanted to get to eat or drink...

The lines are winding all over the place because of the social distancing... simple... only so much room so the lines have to go somewhere... or else if people are getting to close, then people start complaining about that...

Sure there are people that are not going to follow the rules, the thing is people do this all the time... everywhere... at work, in everyday life... in every town, every State, in the country and in the world... and everyone is all over the map with how they are handling it... I was at Wal-mart and there were people not wearing mask, and nothing was said... I was in a restaurant with my friend at lunch time, and there was a table across from us that wore their mask and gloves... the whole time, pulling down the mask to stick the fork in their mouth...and than back up again... the family looked absolutely miserable...

By all means if you are not comfortable, than please feel free to stay home... it really boils down to just this... You have to do what you feel is right for your family...

The parks need to get open all the way, people need to work, and take care of their family...

There is no way to make everyone happy... In reality Disney is going above and beyond to do their part... So you have to decide based on that... what you are going to do.. and only you can decide what right for you and your family... Each person has to make that choice...

What are the chances that EPCOT will not have reservations available on Sunday after Thanksgiving? Currently its open for all three types, but I did notice all the other parks are full for pass holders. I would be in the resort guest bucket. I am considering adding a day to my ticket to go on Sun but won't be able to until the day before.

Are you going to write a trip report about your awesome Universal trip of 6 nights? I would love to hear about it. How were the crowds, food options, ease of doing the attractions, comparisons with compliance at Universal vs WDW.
I hope that you will consider doing this. I am leaning more towards Universal at this point, and am reading all I can online. Thanks
I plan on it when we get home. Still on the road.

Yeah we had EP at Universal. It was included with our reservation at Hard Rock. I can’t compare our visit there to WDW because we were at UO from Sat the 3rd and checked out on the 9th. Did early check in at CR the 9th and were inside HS before 10:00 to get a boarding group. The 10th we did MK. But I’m pretty sure the 9th and 10th were more crowded at both resorts than the 3rd thru 9th.

We are here now and are happy we came, but will not return until fastpasses are back.

The crowds at the parks and the long lines have been a bummer. Hollywood studios was crazy, animal was OK, Magic was insane - 105 minutes for splash, 65 for Haunted Mansion. It’s just not for us. Hitting EPCOT tomorrow and don’t have high hopes, but are also fine just hitting Food and Wine.

I mean, we had been watching the waits get longer and longer, and we knew we’d be there just before, during and after a holiday weekend, so we knew there was a good chance that we’d end up doing a lot of resort time and not a lot of park time. That’s what we have done so far - sleep in, grab breakfast at the resort, hit the pool, do about 3-4 hours in a park and then somewhere fun for dinner.

We have enjoyed the ample downtime at the hotel. If we lived closer we’d definitely consider a resort only stay again.

Which park did you do yesterday?

Can I ask an honest question for those stating “the parks were insane the waits were so long”

and I am really asking to get the perspective. Did you wait in those long line or did you just see the times on the app and decide not to ride?

I ask because I have followed touring plans on Instagram and multiple other folks who are in the parks on Instagram over the past several days. MANY of them are posting the posted wait times and then posting what they really waited. Most times it’s nearly half the amount. This included MK and DHS parks. So I’m just really wondering. We leave in 7 days.

I went mid-September. Waits were long - but I’m also a TP user, so I went by their wait times instead of the park waits. Most- it was less than posted. It all about timing & when you go. We had 60 min wait for Splash Mountain, same trip - early in the day, we went twice in a row because the posted wait was false. A line for Frozen can go to China, and still go pretty quick.

My next (likely final until things resolve - AP expiring) trip is Wed-Tue before US thanksgiving. We are fully expecting it to be busier, but we are prepared. Getting to park early, and since hours are extended will likely do mid-afternoon breaks.

We just got back today. We did the 3-9th at UO and it was a breeze since the crowds hadn't showed up yet. We did HS on Friday 10/9 and MK on Saturday 10/10. It was crowded. Very crowded. We did wait in line for rides and some were spot on the posted time and a few were a little bit longer. Yes the 6 ft. apart makes the lines look longer but the wait times were real. At HS we rode RnR first and it was posted 15 minutes we waited a little over 20. We went to MMRR and the said the queue was closed due to capacity. We had our boarding group #31 so we went to MF:SR and waited the posted wait time which I cannot remember how long it was at the moment. We finished and went to RotR and once our group was called it broke down while in line. It was down about 45 minutes. After we rode we went to ST and posted 25 waited about 20. Headed to MMRR and waited about 75 minutes with a posted time of 85. Saturday we did MK arriving right after opening. They already had both bypass gates open. We went to Buzz, posted 55 minutes so we skipped it. Space was 75 min. so we skipped that. Went to teacups and waited 30 with a posted time of 25. Did Dumbo and I forgot the time posted but we waited a long time. Went to barnstormer and the line was down through the entrance for the train. Posted 35, waited every bit if not more. Headed to Gastons and got a table. Stayed there for a cool down and a drink. Headed to Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch at 1:00. after lunch we watch a cavalcade and went to Splash. 90 min wait and the line was snaking down the bridge walkway in front of Country bears, down through Tom Sawyer Island queue so we said screw it and went back to the resort to swim. Yes the lines were long and the park was crowded. WDWNT did an article on it also. If so much wasn't closed it wouldn't have been that bad. Now we also went in July and the wait times were half or less of what was posted. It was a breeze.

We are here now and did MK today. The masses of people around all of the rides were extremely crowded and impossible to maintain a safe distance. The actual lines did provide for safe distance. Away from the rides it was like the 1980’s. Wide open spaces.

our biggest problem was finding food. All counter services are mobile ordering and the Disney website kept glitching when we tried to order. You can only order during an assigned time so when it glitched, it sent us into the next time slot. It took us over an hour to get an order thru at Cosmic Rays.

We will come again and deal with it all because it is one of the safest activities around and we love Disney. However, this new normal has a steep learning curve. Dining reservations are a must if you don’t want to cook in your room or do Uber Eats when you get back. I agree they need to open more things back up. Spread out the people a little more. Bringing fast passes back will only leave a lot of people hanging around waiting for something to do.

Plan ahead, especially for food. Decide your ride/attraction priorities and hit those first. Bring rain gear so you are not jammed into small, covered spaces with dozens of others.

if it’s not worth it to you, you are wise to know your limits.

(Sorry for typos. I’m trying to post while my family is down for the night)

Local here,

Just like any other holiday, the parks will be busy. We have been in the parks, starting on Thanksgiving day for a long weekend in the past. I would say that it was pretty busy. I know alot of the guest at the different parks are out shopping on Black Friday... Good Friends of ours come down almost every year for Thanksgiving to see Family and Friends... She and I have hit the malls shopping quite a bit. They are coming this year as well, except they are coming on Tuesday and not leaving until the following Tuesday...

So I would suggest if you want to get into a park make the reservation now... this way you just have peace of mind...

I agree with the mobile ordering... especially if you have a food allergy... not really guest friendly... and if you have hungry family, they will get to hangry quickly... as well you can't add in anything extra, saying like you glance at the receipt, or you get to the counter and look at the tray, oh no your a burger short or chicken nuggets, this happened to my friends, some how they forget to order 1 kids meal, and sandwich meal... and it was a mess trying to add on something, and pay for it...Even the manager or lead CM was kinda at a loss and just gave it to them.. For the rest of the trip, she wrote down what they needed to order ahead of time, so that they did not miss anyone... . So if you are ordering this way, double and triple check you have something for everyone...

Yes with the rain gear... local here and we have been getting a ton of rain still... We like a hooded rain jacket, works great, and can double in the restaurants sometimes they are so cold...

Thank you. I have decided to chance it. If I can't get a park reservation I will get more money back to spend from my PH. And I am still not sure I want to do it. I did make an ADR in EP for that eve that I will cancel the day before if I cant get in. I think I am just so ready for a vacation I keep trying to make plans to maximize my experience.

For us even being locals, each trip is unique, never the same thing no matter how many trips, no matter if we go for the day, or the weekend or the week... all different... Keeping that in mind is the key...

Sit down and just look around, slow the pace down, swim in the pool, lay in the lounge chair and read, ride the skyliner, We go some days just to look at the decorations the amount of work that goes into them is truly amazing.

We're going back in mid-November and cannot wait! I wish they would follow the governor's orders and drop the mask mandate.

I'm an operating room nurse and over the past five years saw my great health decline and after researching PubMed articles found out it was the Mask that was making me sick.
I absolutely know it was the mask because I've been home recuperating from joint surgery and my health skyrocketed and I'm back to where I was before wearing a mask 40 hours a week.
I feel awesome :)
The only reason I'm taking this trip is because I'm home recuperating and have the ability to travel and my DD wants a mom-daughter trip so I'll suck it up and wear the mask for a few days.
But I cannot wait!!!! Looking forward to getting back there!
