I just found out our kids will have an extra week added onto the end of the school year. So, I'll be canceling our 5 days Kiidani Standard View the first week of June.

However, I'm wondering if a lot of other school districts are doing the same thing, so maybe I can actually get lucky and find availability the following week at Kidani? Is anyone else having to change their DVC plans due to snow days?

Has a wife of a former teacher I don't see a lot of parents doing this.. 1st of all finals and other things will not be moved.. This added on week will be filled with busy work nothing new since it's the end of the year and most students will not be there..
Most parents don't change vacations just b/c snow days are added..

Yeah, there's not a lot of learning going on here either. But I just can't pull the kids away from all the fun stuff we always have last week of school: class picnic, awards ceremony, field day, etc.

We did. We moved from the first week of June to mid July. With our previous plans, we were taking the kids out of school 3 days early (1 full day and 2 half days). But we also just went this past week, and pulled them out of school for 2 days (1 full day and one half day). We knew we'd have to move it because they aren't allowed to miss more than 5 days (even if 3 of them are half days), and when we started racking up more than a week in snow days, we knew the end-of-the-year calendar was going to get extended. So far, they only have added one day onto the end of the year, but that one extra day would have totaled 6 days off of school for vacation, which is not permitted in our district.

I was glad I moved it when I did as availability for a studio at VGF is tight, and I'm sure if I were moving it now, we'd be out of luck.

I would check with the school before moving your dates.. Most time these are also not moved.. Things like that have to be set up months in advance unless it's a small school.. It has to be ok by the higher ups in the district, and so on..

Just to clarify these rules.. It is 5 unexcused days..
You will have to check with each school, what is the difference between excused and unexcused. 99.9% it's just a note from the parents!
I love how school scares students/parents now into thinking that if my kid misses more then 5 day they will not pass.. So wrong!
Now saying that.. I do feel if you child is behind or failing they should be in school 100% of the time..
But the last week is a joke. Teachers don't have lesson plans set aside for these days.. Most kids end up watching movies or have "Free time"

I know at my school the final exams will be the last three days, whenever that is. We have another snow day today--7 inches since 5 am. I'm praying we have school tomorrow or our vacation might be at risk--I can take unpaid days if my school goes over, but if my son's does it will impact his finals. It would cost us 800 to rebook flights (I got our June 17 flights in November) and we would have to switch resorts.

Our school system has taken from spring break (when we are going to Aulani) and one day added onto the end of the year, so far...winter is not over yet here in NJ

Even if they take more days from Spring break, I am not canceling my vacation plans, nope.

They just ended 5 days to the end of the year for my kids today. If we go on vacation as planned, my kids will miss the last week of school and have to take finals after we get home. We planned on Aulani and so we can't rebook hotel. Everything is booked solid for summer

I don't know what we are going to do.

Our school board added 5 days on to the end of the year. I planned our trip to Aulani 4 days ( including Sat/Sun) after school was planned to end. Thus my dd will miss the final 3 days of school. I thought about rescheduling as we don't arrive at Aulani until the second half of our trip and I did buy insurance. But her teachers and our superintendent said go on to Hawaii, it will be ok. She can be out 14 days and has only missed one thus far. Luckily my ds is on year round schedule so he gets out early enough not to miss school. Was happy our schools were understanding as we are really looking forward to this trip.

Our kids have missed 16 days. We're in a rural county in Va, so we get snow/sleet/ice, and we haven't missed this many days since I can remember. Now there are 2 more potential snow storms coming our way.

I'm frustrated to have to shuffle our vacation, but 3 wks of school is a lot of learning to miss, so I understand the decision.

Just canceled so hopefully someone who's waitlisted for a 2br KDV standard view for the 1st week of June will be very happy!!

I re-booked for the second week, and got SSR, and waitlisted AKV Jambo and KDV. We've never tried SSR, so no matter what, we're going on vacation and may get to try a new resort.

I changed ours a week later after Superstorm Sandy came thru NJ. My sons grammar school 10 miles in from the costs lost 7 days due to power outrages.

They winded up taking days else where and kept the end the school year the same. But it turned out fine.

I just wanted to make sure.

This year we have missed 6 days for the snow...but no changes in end of year yet.:thumbsup2

We always make sure that our first summer vacation starts at least one full week after school ends, just in case. We've never had our school year extended, but we're down to our last day here in Ann Arbor...

We wouldn't change our vacation unless it was over a week. Our last day of school WAS June 6th (1/2 day). Now it's June 9th (1/2 day). We had to make up 1 1/2 days. They took April 18th that was a full day off and made that a 1/2 day.

Our vacation to Aulani starts June 12th, so I hope we don't get two more snow days. My kids love being there for the last days because they bring their camera's to school and take pictures and have tons of fun.

Ice/sleet here tonight. I predict tomorrow will be day 17 of snow days. Over 3 wks our kids have missed. I don't think we've ever missed that much in the 16 yrs we've been in this part of Va.

Our schools in PA were suppose to get out June 6. We had a reservation starting June 9 at BLT, 1 bedroom lake view. Due to snow days, I had to change to arrive June 13. I couldn't get all nights at BLT, so we took a savannah view at Jambo. I waitlisted BLT and it came through about 2 weeks ago. I am guessing it came through because others had to move their trip dates. Whatever the reason, we are excited to be trying BLT for the first time!

I'm glad you got your waitlist!! We've still got our fingers crossed!!

Our schools were supposed to get out on May 23, before Memorial day. Because of the snow, the school year is extended until the following Friday. So, as soon as the school year was extended to the week after Memorial day, I channged our reservation to the week of June 8. The boy scout troop has camp the week of June 1, so, if school is extended any further, it will cut into the camp week. Camp is actually about 2 hours away, so, I am hoping for no more snow days.

We are praying for no more snow days here. I don't want to change anything. It is not the kids either. DD and DSIL are both teachers. DD is going to school until 2 days before we leave.
