Anyone else carve thier own jackolanterns?

Not yet. I am down in Fl, and I have heard not to put out carved pumpkins until a couple of days before Halloween. Ds and I are going to paint one tomorrow, though.

My mom does, but we cheat and use those pattern books. She's done two so far. Fake pumpkin from the craft store so they'll last forever. We have Lucifer, the cat from Cinderella, and a headless horseman (my FAVORITE pattern). We do him every year.

What's the vaseline for? To seal the cuts? We've always just dunked them into a big tub o water every other day or so. Keeps them nice and moist.

you use a pattern taped on the pumkin its actually easy to do.. just time consuming, that one took her about two hours start to finish.

If you rub the cut parts of the pumpkin with vasoline it will lask longer.

We are carving ours tonight!

Wow! I'm so impressed w/ the pumpkins on this thread. We have a pumpkin carving party every year w/ several other families. Our pumpkins aren't as elaborate as the ones on this thread, but we have fun. I just hate cleaning out the insides of the pumpkin. Yuck!

We like to, but in the last few year shave not got around to it. When we do, we usualy bake the seeds as well. But they never turn out too good.

Yeah, I didn't understand the title either, 'cause you can't buy them carved, can you?

My dh has used patterns like that a couple of times. I just make a face. We've never used vaseline though, didn't know that...........thanks for the tip.
