Anyone else buy glow/led stuff ahead of time?

Somehow we got in the habit of buying glowing or blinking jewelry and toys ahead of time, and bringing them into the parks with us. I don't remember how it started, but it's one of my favorite traditions at Disney. I love bringing it out at night as we are waiting for the fireworks and surprising the kids with it.

It helps with the 'gotta have its' when the glow toys are being sold (lets face it, they do look cool in the dark, but they are darn expensive)

It helps us keep track of the kids in the dark, since their glow stuff is different from what most other kids have

and it gives us something to give away to other little ones around us just for the fun of it.

This year I decided to skip the disposable glow stuff and go with the re-useable LED jewelry. It's cooler, and should last longer. Very cheap to buy online, very expensive in the parks.

Anyone else do this?

I get the glow bracelets at the dollar store (same as the ones at Michael's) they come in a tube of 8.

I give extras for my niece to hand out to other kids.

We left one on our neighbour's stroller, she said it made it easier to find in the dark.

I do this also. I used to buy the expensive stuff at the parks but once we got home my DD never played with them again so I started buying the cheap glow stuff and it goes over way better!

Yes! Last year I brought along a slew of that stuff for my boys, I got ours at our local Dollar Tree. I might have to look into that LED stuff! My kids just love "glow sticks" :)

Funny that you brought that up since I stock up on glowing stuff yesterday.

They are having a special on party city on necklaces, braceletes, etc.

I even got some Star Wars' light sabers that glow in the dark for less than $3!!! ;)

We LOVE to buy a pile of glow stuff at dollar tree and then let DD10 pass them out to other little kids. Some people are wierd about accepting them.. but its fun to see a little kid so happy over something so simple. :wizard:

I totally stock up at the dollar store on the glow bracelets, etc. It was a total deterrent from the kids asking for all the glowing items in the carts that come out at night while you're in the parks.

In Canada Michael's has tons of glow stick, glow swords, cutlery, earrings, etc.. and cheaper than the dollar stores.

We picked up packages of 15 glow bracelets (3 each of 5 colors) for $1.50 a package... We thought it was a clearance but apparently that's regular price..

The dollar stores here give you far less bang for the buck..

I haven't looked for cool LED stuff yet.. that's next on the list :) But definitely, a few minutes before you leave to pick these up will save a ton of money (or "i want it"s from the kids)

I picked up some glow bracelets for $1 at Michael's after reading about on the boards. What a great tip and I wouldn't have thought about it if not for DIS.
They will be a surprise when we get to the park.

I usually buy glow stix after halloween when they are on sale.

fyi... for the little kids, i buy the short, thicker glow stix because those narrow ones (like the bracelets or necklaces) can be easily snapped and leak as they play with them.

I'm also in Canada, let me know if you find any LED stuff. I will try and post here if I find any.

The Dollar Giant here has the bracelets in a tube, like Michaels but it only has 10 per tube. I'd have to drive 30 min to get to a Michaels and the price difference is about the same when I pay $1 for 10 in a tube.

Yes, please and same here! I haven't come across any LED, let along LED jewerly items yet!

My husband goes past a Michael's every day to work. Sometimes I have him stop in with the 40% off coupon and that marks the bracelets down to .90 cents.

I got some good deals on TheGlowPro.com. There's plenty of other sites that sell the stuff cheap, but they let you order individual pieces instead of lots of 12 or 24. I got the flashing hair braids for $1.19 each. My girls will love them, but I shudder to think what they would cost in the parks. $12? $14?

At least most of the LED stuff has replaceable batteries, so it's not just a one shot deal, even if they forget and leave them on.

We've had some people look at us weirdly when we try and give their kids glow sticks, like we're up to something or will suddenly ask for money. I guess parents are just used to being hit up to buy stuff at places like Disney. Freebies are almost unheard of. It usually works better if we have the DD's try and give them to other kids their age, the kids are more trusting.

I bring glow stix and even spinners from the Disney Store with us. The kids love them and I also attatch a few to the stroller at night :) The Disney store had flashing snap bracelets at Halloween time and I also grabbed a few of those for our last trip in December. Thanks for reminding me...Ill have to see if they have them on clearance again after this Halloween :) I also attatched them to the stroller when they were not wearing them. I think handing out the glow bracelets to the other kids is a great idea! :goodvibes

This is so funny since my husband came home yesterday with a bunch of glow stuff! It's a great idea and way to save money.

I take some with me every year also. I only have one DD so I let her share the rest of the pack with whomever is around us. She loves handing stuff out.

I got some Glow stuff from Ocean state job lot, for our trip next year. I'll bring it if I don't forget where I put it, before then : )

You can find lots of LED jewelry an glow things at orientaltrading.com. They also have TONS of other fun Disney things that I like to buy ahead and take along for special treats during our trip! They've got stickers, tattoos, plush disney characters, jewelry, etc. The prices are amazing!!

what a great idea!!! thanks for posting this!!! :)

want to look :cool1: without spending a mint in the park! :rotfl2:

We bought a bunch a stuff at the dollar store and let DD6 pass out extras to the kids around us. She loved and everyone seemed happy to except :thumbsup2 We'll do the same next year
