Anyone else addicted to camping??

Love camping...just wish DH worked 1st shift so we could go more. Would like to upgrade to a pop-up, but no place to store it. Once I figure that out, we will be getting one.

We love camping too. We're going on a long weekend trip over labor day. DD has been asking to go all summer.

What is puggy pie?

We have the pie makers that you cook over the fire - make fruit pies and pizza, is this similar?

I love camping, too!!! :) Ironically, hubby is the one from the Pacific NW and he grew up camping while I'm an island girl and I camped when I was a high schooler, but nothing monumental. He'd rather stay at a hotel and I just love the outdoors. I'm trying to get him to take a camping trip next summer when he can get away with us for a while.

I even went when I was 8.5 months pregnant with my 4th and then my 5th children. :flower:

We love to camp. My folks had a 16 foot travel trailer when I was a kid and we dragged that thing all over the eastern seaboard. My wife and I started with a tent and now we have a camper. The two longest voayages with it: Central PA to Mount Rushmore and Central PA to Fort Wilderness. You can see our camper by following the link in my sig below. Unfortunately, due to work, we haven't been able to get the trailer out of the driveway yet this summer.

Whoa! we need to know how to make pizza over a fire! I'm going to have to make a binder off all this great camping info I've been obtaining! :)

What a nice camper! I enjoyed your site. :)

pizza can be cooked over open flames,, simply place risen dough onto grate and top,, when the crust is done, hrte topping ss hould be done and ready to eat,, a covered grill is better, but if unavailable,, in vert a dutch oven, or large irron skillet over the pizza:)

Oh Thank you so much for the pizza instructions! We usually juts make hotdogs, go to the snack shop or leave the property to find a place to eat! :rotfl: We've only had 4 trips so we're still pretty new to this. :)

Our family loves to camp. We used a tent until 8 yrs. ago when I finally couldn't sleep on the ground anymore so we now have a pop up. We love it. We haven't been able to go camping as much as we would like last year but we are heading out the first of Sept. to go and I am really looking forward to it. We took my 2 dgdd's for a weekend and had a lot of fun.

I Love Love Love to camp!!! Took the hubby and daughter's for the first time a couple of years ago & we go at least a couple of times a year.

Another vote for loving to camp. We camped some when I was a kid, as did my DH. We tented for a few trips after we got married, upgraded to a pop up and the next year upgraded to a Hybred trailer. Ours has one fold out bed and the other end has bunks for the kids. I don't get why people don't think it's camping...yes it's not ruffing it, but it's not like we spend our time indoors watching the tube. It's just nice to have the convenience of your own shower and a bathroom, especially when you have little ones who just can't wait to get to potty!

Camping is the best thing we started to do as a family. We make a point of trying to go on weekend trips every other weekend as time allows. When we are home we find way to many jobs that "need" to be done. Camping allows us to take time with the kids, not worrying about what needs to be cleaned to day or whether the lawn needs mowing. Like another poster said, many of the campgrounds offer activities for the kids, swimming pools or beaches or just sitting by the campfire enjoying conversation with family and friends.

That being said, I don't think I'm up for a camping trip to Fort Wilderness. For one it's a long trip to haul and for two, when I head to Florida it's for a tropical vacation, so I'm opting for a more tropical setting.

Why would anyone want to steal the concrete? :)
I think Pop Daddy just wants to try camping in jail :cool1:
I love camping..but my DH thinks I can't do it (I'm the cub scout leader!)...I have also always wanted to build one of those teardrop campers, but make it large enough to make a sleeping loft (for 4), but I think my kids will be too big to fit on the loft by the time I get it done!!! :goodvibes

We bought a travel trailer a few months ago and have been using it as much as possible this summer. Being in the Pacific Northwest, we've got some really great places to camp. We have a group of five or six families that all go together one weekend a month, plus we're trying some solo trips. Our trailer is a Trailmanor and is the best of both worlds as it is 27' when open and 20' when closed, sleeps six, and fits in our garage due to a swing-away hitch. I just love it, but there's one problem...we're just too far away to camp at Fort Wilderness! :(

I think teardrop campers are romantic. :p Just build it for 2. :teeth:

Another camping lover here!!

DH and I started out with a tent, then graduated to a pop-up which we had for several years while the kids were growing up. Then we graduated to a 5th wheel and we're on our second one of those. We can still enjoy all the outdoor aspects of camping (sitting by the campfire at night, roasting marshmallows, cooking outdoors, taking nature walks, etc.) but we have our own bed, bathroom and air conditioning. The best of both worlds IMHO. :)

And now that both our grown children have campers it's even MORE fun to go camping with them and the grandchildren!! :)

MagicalMom: Another good camping "recipe" that we like are Hobo Pies. You just take large pieces of heavy duty aluminum foil and place chunked up boneless pieces of chicken, chunked up potatoes, onion, carrots, celery, corn, etc. in the center, add some dabs of butter, seasonings, a squirt of Italian dressing and fold 'em up. You can use any meats really, and any vegetables (sometimes I add green beans, zucchini, summer squash). You can either bake them in the coals of your campfire, or do like I do and bake them at home and then just warm 'em back up when we're camping. They make a whole "meat and potatoes meal" and are easy to do, we love them.

Camping for me is in a trailer with a toilet & shower. Tent camping is really rouging it, as far as I'm concerned.

More work than it's worth to do the tent thing, but camping in a trialer was great when I was a kid. We made the best memories.

DH would never camp - hotel or nothing for us.

Hey - just saw the response about the pizza over the open fire. I have a recipe for a first night meal............

Tacos in a Bag

--Individual packages of Doritos
--Shredded lettuce in a ziploc bag
--Diced tomatoes in a ziploc bag
--Shredded taco cheese
--Cooked ground beef (either cooked previously & heated before meal or cooked on fire) seasoned with taco flavoring
--hot sauce if desired
--sour cream if desired

Before opening Doritos crush them with your hand.

Open bag & add taco ingredients

Eat with plastic forks directly out of bag Doritos bags

When done throw everything away.

My sister actually made this for us one day as a "fun meal" at her house. She got it from a friend that makes it for their meal when they go camping. Everything is disposable & everything is prepared prior to arriving so there is no need to worry about dinner preparation on your arrival day!

Can also make it with chicken! :)

The pies we make use metal pie makers (can get from a camping supply store or often at the camp store at campgrounds) You use 2 slices of bread, then add canned pie mix, or pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni, whatever you like. stick the whole thing in the fire, cook for a few minutes, then enjoy!
