Hello All,
I am unable to go to WDW this year due to a move to a new house.:goodvibes But after 15 yrs in a row, I am going threw withdrawals and was considering a quick xmas trip:santa:. After last winter I'm afraid to book anything because I hate driving in the snow:scared1:, horrifies me.
I checked amtrak and the rates are too high so driving is my only option.

What does December weather do to your travel plans?

Last year was an El Nino year; as a result, it was an abnormally snowy year. This year shouldn't nearly be a snowy. And most of the snow is in January and February anyway.

That said, you should be semi-flexible in when you leave and come home. Don't be afraid to leave Disney a day early if there's a threat of a snowstorm along the route.

Last winter, we were scheduled to drive through Kentucky and Tennessee during a major snowstorm. However, we were able to take off work a few hours early. As a result, we were a couple of hours ahead of the snow.

And if you get stuck in a snowstorm, pull off at the nearest exit with a motel and wait it out. Usually the roads will be clear between 12 and 24 hours. Major interstates are usually the first roads cleared. I don't know much about I-95, but from what I hear, you should stick to it. Less hilly.

I've been caught in some horrible storms. Not just in December but in April and October that caused slow driving for several hundred miles.

You however have the great fortune of leaving a place where it snows and driving to a place where it doesn't.

I would just pay attention to the weather before you travel day and if a storm is coming sneak out before it. Also just think of how low the odds are that a freeway will be shut down for a storm, it is far more likely that weather will not be a probelm.

I've never driven, but I very vividly remember my dad driving to WDW about twenty years ago at xmas time. We had absolutely no problems with snow in the Midwest, none at all as we drove all the way down - until we got caught in a "snowstorm" at the GA/FL border. One centimeter of snow, maybe, and they shut everything down. We had to stay overnight in a church. Caught by snow where we least expected it. Hopefully that won't happen to you!
