Has anyone driven from Indy? Did you stop along the way? IF so, where/when. We currently have no trips planned, but I am trying to figure out when we can go, and if we drive, then I think we can go sooner than later by saving on airfare.

We have only flown, so any input would be great!! Thanks!

We have never driven from Indy recently. But, years ago, when I was in high school(I obviously, I was not married yet) my parents took us me and my brother and sister to Disney. We drove STRAIGHT THROUGH to Orlando with no stopping overnight. Let me tell you, after all these years, I still remember that trip!!! By the time we got there, I remember how tired we all were, and our first day was a blur!!! All I wanted to do when I got there was sleep!! I think it took my parents like 20 hours. So, now that I have a family of my own(two DS 9 and 5 and a DH), we fly. We flew in June to Disney and it was so worth it(even with all the security now). At that time gas prices were reaching $3.00 a gallon, and I figured with that and the fact that we would want to stop overnight there and on the way back, the price was not much less than flying for the four of us. If you want to drive, I would seriously consider breaking up the trip into 2 days going there and coming back. On the other hand, keep an eye on airfares. Southwest and Airtran both fly out of Indy and their fares are great sometimes! We flew the four of us last summer for just over $700 total(about $178 round trip per person). So, don't think I helped you out at all, but good luck in your decision!!! You have to make the best decision for your famiy reguardless of what everyone says.

I haven't drove from Indy, but I have from extreme se MI. It takes about 10 hours if you drive straight thru, which we don't. We take at least 2 days. I don not plan on an exact hotel, but do have a target area. This summer i will aim for Chatanooga because it's about half way. I like driving better than flying because I can bring more stuff and not have to worry about what's on the banned list at the airport. We take 75 all the way down.:goodvibes

A couple years ago when we lived in indywe drove, we stay in Dalton Georgia for the night got up early and drove to disney there i think around noon.

When I come from Bluffton, I usually make sure I get through Atlanta before I stop for the night. It feels better knowing I don't have to go through the city. I stop in Macon. I push the first day, and make it to WDW before noon the next day. We park, check into the hotel (leave our luggage in the car), and hit the parks:banana: We head back later to unpack, rest, and eat before our evening trip back for fun:dance3: It feels better to hit the parks fresh than driving all night and being half asleep in the parks.

We have never driven from Indy, but this will be our 3rd time driving down from central Illinois. It takes us about 20 hours to drive it. Dh and I take turns driving and we leave around 9:00pm so that the kids sleep thru the night.

Thanks for all your posts. I don't know if I would be up for driving all night through. It is definitely something to ponder. My husband wouldn't even need to take off work on Friday. We could eat dinner and go!

Laz- I like your plan of stopping somewhere past Atlanta and then not having a long drive at all the next day.

Harvest- Once we have an actual trip scheduled, then I will definitely have to do some flight pricing research. You are right, byt the time you add in the hotel rooms down and back with everything, then it could just about equal out!

Any one else out there drive down?

Oh, and one last thing...GO COLTS!!:cheer2:

We drive from Central IL, 16 - 18 hrs depending on traffic/weather. We leave after school/work and drive to in between Nashville and Chattanooga and stay the night. Get up and drive the next day and arrive by dinner/supper.

GO BEARS!

We are about 70 miles South of Indy, we usually take 41S until we get to Penn Parkway and out that way. We usually spend the night in Macon Georgia, then finish driving the next day. On the way home we usually drive straight through. PURE HECK all the way home around 17 hours.. We plan on flying this year..
