Anyone doing the Disneyland Marathon?

I am not running, but I will be on the sidelines rooting my sister on! :goodvibes

You should be so proud of yourself - you runners amaze me!

DH and I are running the Half! There's several of us who have been posting on the September 2010 Check-In thread. This is my first half and I'm pretty excited, but a little nervous, too. DH and I are on the last couple of weeks of the Hal Higdon Novice plan right now.

My wife has been doing a little running. I have a stress fracture im trying to nurse. So i am very nervous

I am NOT doing the marathon, :sad2:

I only run when (an if) I am being chased..but good luck to everyone else! Better you then me! :lmao: :rotfl2:

I would LOVE to do this!

Maybe next year cuz first...I gotta learn how to run!! :rotfl:

JK, but it seriously would be fun to train for something like that and to do it at the "Happiest Place on Earth!"!!!!!

DH is running the 1/2 and DD and myself are running the 5k. Godd luck. We are very excited!! :thumbsup2

I am! It'll be my second year. Also signed up for the WDW half in January, which means I'll have to do the DL half next year too, since I reeeeally want that coast-to-coast medal :thumbsup2

I'm doing it too! :dance3: My dad, sister and I are doing the 5K on Saturday and I'm doing the 1/2 on Sunday. It's going to be so much fun!! There are a couple of threads in another area if you want to come over and say hi. If you scroll down to the Community area, there is a sub section called W.I.S.H. click on that and then under that there is Events /Competition area. We're all in there talking about it as well as the September check in area. There's a thread where you can list your bib# to see/meet up with other people in your corral: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2528357

2 weeks from Tomorrow! I can't wait!! :banana::banana::banana:

We're doing it! It will be our third DL Half. I got the coast-to-coast medal last year - it's very cool. I'm not looking forward to miles 4-9 again - the so-called "scenic streets of Anaheim" are anything but! Running on the field at Angels Stadium is really neat, though - that's just before mile 10.

I am running it - hoping to finish and get the coast-to-coast medal since I did the Princess! My best friend is flying out from FL to do it too. I am not nearly as well trained as I was for the Princess - did 9.5 miles 2 weeks ago - trying for 11 this weekend. But I hope I can make it under time! We will have Minnie Mouse skirts and ears!

My friend and I are running in it with our hubby's and my son cheering us on. This is our first and we are really excited. Tomorrow we are running 5 miles and then making our shirts and tutu's for our trip there. We decided that we needed shirts for the day before the race :cutie: Good luck to all of you! Hopefully I will meet some of you at the mini meet that weekend!

I'm running the half. I want that Coast to Coast medal. I look forward to running in less humidity.

ScooterL what about the scenic miles 4-9?

I'm most excited about getting back to DL. Last trip was in 1993 and so much has changed. I can remember my first trip in 1966 and I was 5 years old. OK, so now you know my age. It was with my brother, mom, and great aunt. MY most vivid memory is of Tinkerbell flying out of the Castle. I coming solo so hope all goes well. them I travel north to see family.

It is hard to believe that I know WDW better than DL.

Ahhh...the scenic streets of Anaheim...at about mile 4 the course leaves Disneyland and goes out onto Ball Rd for a while, then you turn right onto a street that's part of the industrial area (not heavy industry - just all of those low office-type buildings). And then you make a left, then go a block, then another left and come back to Ball again, parallel to what you did the first time. And it looks about the same, too. You go down three of those long streets before finally getting over to the Honda Center (formerly Duck Pond) where things start to get a little more interesting. They get some high school bands and other groups to perform along that stretch but there's no Disney presence at all - forget about seeing any characters until you're back in DCA at about Mile 12. Most of the Disney Magic is in Miles 1-4 - last year there weren't many characters once we returned DCA after mile 12 - just one set, I think. Might be different this year since the World of Color construction walls are down in DCA. You can find the course map on page 26 of the Half Marathon Weekend program: http://adisneyworldsports.disney.go...s/endurance/dlhm/images/DLprogram10online.pdf

If you're used to running races at WDW, I think you will find this course to be a bit of a let-down - I know I did.

Wow, I have seen the course map and looked at past photos and just thought Disney all the way. Yes, I have done the Princess 2'x and Minnie once and there was alway something to keep my attention. Should I be rethinking the ipod?

You might want to. As I mentioned earlier, there are various music groups that are on that one (really boring) Anaheim section - they are every half mile or so. But no Disney presence (other than the Mickey mile markers) from the time you leave DL until you return to DCA 8 miles later!

You don't actually return to DCA, do you? From the map, it looks to my eye that you run on one of the service roads back behind DCA. Do you actually go back in and around Paradise Pier again?

Oh, you're right - it's different than last year! Definitely looks like you stay backstage (on the road the parade floats use) rather than going back into the park - we re-entered the park by ToT last year. So hmm...that probably means NO characters - they usually don't put them backstage. Bummer.

I did this race last year for the first time and I decided that this year I am bringing my ipod. It did get a little long there in the middle.
