Apparently these have become all the rage. My DD and her friend are trying to get the cheerleading squad to wear ugly Christmas sweaters before school is out. If you Google ugly Christmas Sweaters, you get a lot of hits, so I'm guessing this has become quite popular.

My niece's sorority had an Ugly Christmas Sweater Party this week. The pictures they posted on Facebook were hilarious. :rotfl2:

I guess they are ahead of their time! I figured I'd get more responses.:confused3 I bet their sorority had a blast!

I know the participants in ugly Christmas sweater parties are just having fun, letting off steam and I know that it was originally concieved of as an idea for a casual relaxed Christmas party. (Do you feel the but coming yet?) My problem with these parties is that they're making fun of the clothes that many, mostly older, people wear and enjoy and like.

I don't wear jeggings and ankle sandals or rompers at Halloween and laugh at people in their 20's for being silly enough to fall for those fashions after all, and dear lord, some of the things teens and twentysomethings wear are much, much more silly and far more ugly than any Christmas sweater!

I noticed that many of the store employees at various stores at the mall last weekend were wearing "ugly" sweaters. They really weren't ugly, just decorated with fun, tacky, over the top Christmas items, such as ornaments, candy, ribbons, bows, etc. When I commented on one, she told me about it, and it was the first I had ever heard about it!

They were all the range here about 3 years ago but it isn't really a party you can have year after year.

Last year we had a Tacky Christmas party and the theme was the movie Christmas Vacation. It was hilarious!!! The guys had their tight light colored sweaters with their dickys on like Cousin Eddie. It was a riot!

I NEVER even heard of this until the other day. My ds, (24 and in law school) told me that he had to get an "ugly Christmas sweater" to wear at an "ugly Christmas sweater party"! Who knew?

Today just happens to be "Ugly Sweater Day" at the HS I work at. I gave my best ugly sweater to my son a few years ago when he and his wife went to an USP. I have a few sweatshirts that are pretty ug, so I'll pick one of those for today.

As someone who actually wore the "ugly" sweater for several years, I'm not at all insulted that it's considered ugly. And it's not that these are so ugly, but they're unique and no one would wear them at any other time. (I always said that Christmas sweaters were OK from the day after Thanksgiving to New Years' Day.)

My Dd graduated last year but the last 3 years that I know for sure they had an ugly sweater day at school!

Last year I loved it that a guy friend of hers wore one of mine from the height of Christmas sweater madness, and it was quite lovely -shoulder pads and all!

I went to one a few years ago. After browsing ebay's selection of "ugly christmas sweaters," I ended up purchasing one described as "beautiful christmas sweater." It is the ugliest sweater I've ever seen.
