Just wondering if anyone is doing a modified version of WW/Atkins/lowcarb (a combination)? If so, what kind of results are you having and can you post an example of what you might eat in one day?

Thanks! :) Just considering lowering my carb intake (although I had a major pig out on bread and dip today, d'oh!) ;)

Actually, I think CDoobee is doing a vegetarian/ww/low carb kind of a thing.

I'm not doing this, though.

Not doing it but seriously considering it! OhMom sent me a link to the WW info regarding low carbing. PM if you would like the link. :)

One thing I am doing though. My DH is doing no carbs after 4 pm so I am incorporating that into many of our dinners. Example meal: Grilled chicken breast, broccoli, green beans. Or... bed of lettuce, taco meat, salsa, cheese. I measure those foods for my point requirements (I use way less cheese than he does) so it works for both of us. :)

I can't really tell you that my weight loss has been faster because I had started the no carb thing for him before I started WISH and WW. I am at 14 pounds lost since starting March 17. I can report inches lost on May 1st since I am only measuring once a month on the 1st. :)

Not 'officially'. I love not having to count calories, points, etc. - I don't really even count carbs. I just stick to the foods that I know are lowest in carb count.

With that said --- when eating very low carb I lose my 'hunger' and therefore do not eat very much. If I would 'calculate' a days food using the point system I am quite sure that I would be within or lower than my point range.
:D

I tried it a couple of months ago, and it didn't work for me. All the low-carb foods (meats, nuts, eggs) were too many WW points, and the things that WW said were low points had too much sugar! I lost about 2 pounds in 2 months. So, I left WW and did straight Atkins, and immediately lost 5 pounds in a week! LOL!

I'm doing a modified Atkins/low carb/low sugar kind of thing and have had great success. I've determined my body really does not like sugar but can handle carbs in moderation. So my typical weekday menu is something like:

Breakfast - egg beaters & lean protein (turkey burger or sausage)

Lunch - salad with grilled chicken or broccoli & chicken, sugar free jello for a treat (with non-fat redi whip)

Dinner - whole wheat pasta, lean protein, vegetables

On the weekends I'm more lenient - I've had pizza, beer, etc. (in moderation of course) with no problems. But I still shy away from sugar.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the info, guys!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my question. I threw the idea of not eating carbs after a certain time of day at DH and he said he's game for it! Although we won't do that until later this week because I already have some carbs planned for our dinner tonight and tomorrow!

Can't wait to see how things work out for us with this new twist! Woo-hoo!!!!!

TigH - make sure you don't go "no carb". That's not healthy - you need the vitamins and fiber, etc. in veggies! The Atkins plan calls for one salad a day during Induction (first two weeks), and slowly adding more carbs after that, in the form of healthy food - veggies, berries, nuts, etc.

Good luck!! :) :)

Oh, Terry, could you send me the link that ohMom sent you? I forgot to ask for that earlier, d'oh!

Rhonda, I am going to eat carbs during the day, but I am going to try to do what Terry (geetey) is doing and not eat carbs after 4:00. I usually have oatmeal or a half an english muffin for breakfast, a small sandwich (wheat bread) or crackers w/ my lunch and either 1/2 cup pasta or 2 oz potato w/ my dinner. I am going to eliminate the pasta/potato from dinner and just eat a protien with loads of veggies and some type of fat. (loads of veggies for me would be steamed broccoli, a salad, green pepper, spinach, etc). Is zucchini a low carb veggie? I love it cooked with marinara sauce! Mmmm!

You're in luck --- zuchinni is a lower carb veggie. I've seen a recipe where they sliced zuchinni the long ways and used in a Lasagna Recipe in place of the pasta. I want to try that sometime. I actually like to just stir fry the zuchinni and top it with a little grated parmigan cheese. Remember to watch that you get sugar free marinara sauce.
;)

I'm back on the 40-30-30 program (40% carbs, 30% protein & 30% fat). All the carbs are fruits & veggies. It's also called the Formula- there is also a version called "The Zone".
Breakfast is usually a shake made with whey protein powder & strawberries - lunch is a salad with chicken or tuna - dinner is pretty much whatever I make w/o bread, rice or pasta. I'm supposed to eat 5 meals per day - sometimes i just get in 4 (the 4th being either a "Zone bar" or another small "lunch".) I lost around 15 lbs in 2 months before the holidays - now I need to stick with it for the next 3 months!

Yes! I'm doing it!

It's not something I could ever do as a lifestyle change, though. I really like sandwiches! But, I'm trying it a day at a time, hopefully for 2 weeks.

I just needed something to get my weight loss jumpstarted again. I started it last Monday (the 21st), and by Saturday had lost 3.25 pounds. I had only lost about 3.5 total for the preceding 7-8 weeks!

I plan on adding more carbs back in, just less than I had been eating before. For example, if I have a Subway veggie sandwich for lunch, I won't have pasta or a baked potato in the same day.

Here's an example of what I've been eating:

Breakfast-usually none. I know that's not supposed to be good, but I've just never been a breakfast eater. I did go to Denny's this morning, though. I had 2 eggs (added Bacos I brought along) and a side salad.

Lunch-salad with ranch or caesar dressing (I just dip the fork, or use only 1 tbsp) and 1 or 2 boiled eggs, and/or 1-2 oz. of cheese.

Dinner-Boca burger with mayo or Eggbeaters with Bacos
And depending on how big a salad I had at lunch, I either have more salad, or other veggies like tomato or onion.
Last night I had veggie meatballs for the first time. Really good! I can't wait until I can try them with marinara sauce!

Snack-1-2 oz. cheese cubes
1-2 boiled eggs
celery with any type of spreadable cheese (really like the CRUNCH of this)

I could eat a little more, but DUMB ME decided to do this at the same time I'm doing Alex's WW challenge, and can't go over 20 points a day!

Hope this helps!

OhMom, I'd like that WW link also, please!

I started a low car diet on 10/13/02 and have lost about 70 pounds. I am following a book that offers a plan called the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. The book is paperback and sells for about 7 bucks. This diet works for me because for my supper I eat what ever I want. I am very strick at breakfast and lunch but for me its easy as I am a work.
I also eat nothing between meals and nothing after dinner. I would like to loose another 85 pounds so I am almost half there. I did a solo disney trip this last january along with a 4 day disney cruise and was able to stay on track. I did eat more but the walking compensated the extra and i ended up actually loosing a few pounds for the two weeks I was there.
On other diets I alwys felt I was being deprived but on this one I feel that my dinner is only 24 hours away when I can eat whatever and that is rewarding within it self to me.
I have set another goal of 50 pounds by Nov 2nd which is my next Disney Solo trip.
If you want any other info on the diet or will be at Disney 11/2 - 11/18 and would like to share a meal..... email me at cglowacki@aol.com
