Hi, I was just wondering if anyone that has done the CP that was a lifeguard give me some advice?

How was it? Did you get to pick whether you were at a resort or a park?

Also how was the job itself? I know from experience (I have been a lifeguard and swim instructor for 4 1/2 years), it's a difficult job but, as long as you're consistent and are always working hard, it's not too bad.

One last question, when you apply does it ask for a copy of your certifications? If it doesn't should I put it in there anyways? Should I include my water safety instructor certification or just include Lifeguarding, CPR & AED, and First Aid?

Thanks so much for your help!

I was not a lifeguard, but I had a friend who was at Typhoon Lagoon. He loved it. He said ti was tiring, but worth it. I think they have their own certifications, so you don't need to worry about that. I do know one of his coworkers had no experience, but he was still placed in it.

I haven't done it yet, but I'll be a lifeguard for Fall 2012 so I've been researching!

You don't really get to pick resorts or water parks. You're mostly placed by where they need people most. There is a good chance that they'll want you to be a "deep water" guard (because of your experience) which would mean being at the water parks doing thinks like the wave pool. I've heard some people try to get into the deep water group during the swim test. I don't think it hurts to ask...

For more job details from people who've done it, I'd do a search on here or look for youtube cp videos. Here's one to get you started

About certifications, they won't need to see copies of any of yours. Everyone has to go through the Disney lifeguard training. They use ellis training.

In the application I think there's a place for any certifications you want to include. I'd list all your certifications. It can't hurt.

Hope this helps!

I plan on blogging about my experiences, so I will definitely keep you up to date there! Also I forgot to mention that the pay rate is different whether you're a deep water or shallow water guard. Deep water pays more ;)

So glad I could help!

I am not personally a lifeguard, but I work at Typhoon Lagoon so I know plenty! They all seem to love it. From what I've seen you have to be there much earlier than everyone else, and be prepared to spend your first hour or two raking sand and picking up leftover towels and such! Other than that everyone I know there seems to really enjoy themselves!
