We are considering upgrading but I am having a hard time trying to justify the cost difference... Since the deal is not as great of a deal with a deluxe because of rack rates how did you justify it?

it was easy for us, there is 5 of us so we had no choice. I do hate to pay that much though. I try not to think about it. Since we have been on 1 vacation in 12 years and that was in 2001 @ disney for 2 days I figure we deserve it.

We are staying at AKL, standard value season, which is $199.00 a night. With an AP, I don't really know what the price is, but I thought it was $70.00 off a night, plus I would have to buy an AP, which costs more than the MYW ticket I purchased. So, even if I had an AP, my family of 4, eats more than $70.00 a day. That is how I justified it, plus I also justified it as QUEEN BEDS!! LOL!! Anyway, the other more expensive deluxes probably would not prove to be a great deal for us, because the cost of the room is so much more. Have fun deciding!!

We did the same - I priced out 2 rooms at the Pop, 1 room at POR with a trundle, and 1 CR wing room. Of course, the wing room was most expensive, but not by that much!

We adore the CR, and the wing rooms are fine with us - tower is better, but not worth the money. Even with 2 teenaged girls and 1 preteen girl, 1 bathroom works for our family - so the decision was made!!

POR with a trundle would have been basically free for the room, since if we paid for dining it would have cost us $150 per night! So - we are getting the CR room for basically $120/night - which is good by me!!

This is a birthday trip for my youngest (turning 9), and the Contemporary is her favorite resort - and she's stayed at most of the deluxes. So - for $120/night, I will make her happy!

I so badly want to upgrade and just drop the free dining to do so... If POLY has an AP rate(I already have an AP, rest of my family does not) I might just do so...

Plus the more I think about all those sit down meals with my 20 month old I get a headache....

Our major problem is we need 2 rooms because of DM and DSis are coming and we want to "treat" them to this vacation and that is a HUGE difference in price when it comes to 2 rooms...

We upgraded from AKL to BC for 5 adults. They are both deluxe resorts, but the BC is almost $100 per night more. Calculated what we would spend on food, particularly since we would be eating at all the great places that we passed up before and decided it was worth it. :flower:

We had two rooms at the POP and upgraded to the POLY when the free dining became available!!! We figured that we would have spent nearly 1000.00 on food for three adults and two kids 7 days. That is how we justified the difference in cost. Besides....it is a great excuse for a little splurge!!!

We're doing YC w/"free" dining. Actually, I was hoping to try a moderate this time around--but it makes me nervous. I'm afraid to spend all that money--(moderate/deluxe--no matter how you look at it-they are both a lot of money)--and then be unhappy with my accomodations.

Then again, we're going for my 30th b-day--I need some luxury to cheer myself up! :confused3

We're doing the Poly, concierge, and paying for dining!!!

Of course, I continue to hope that free dining will come out, but............

this trip is "for" dh, and I am splurging because it is what he wants

(there are 5 of us)

My fiance and I are doing the Yatch Club with free dining. The rooms are pretty steep without any other discounts at $294 a night for standard. But for me this was the only choice, I've only been to WDW once before and that was last year also at the Yatch Club. Basically I really loved it, they treated us amazing and I'm loyal to things that bide well by me. Plus it is another anniversary trip so we figured we might as well splurge and have a really romantic time. Hoping to be able to upgrade to water view again ( last time we didn't have to pay bc it was pretty slow, but I'd be willing to in a heartbeat!). All in all, if you can afford it and you won't regret splurging then go for it, otherwise don't waste your trip thinking about all of the money you could have saved, you'll just ruin your time! :grouphug:

We're staying at the Polynesian with free dining. We have 3 adults and 1 child so we wanted 2 queen beds. My mom is the 3rd adult and she's 70 so we wanted monorail access so it would be easier for her to find her way back to the room if she wanted to leave (we'll spend the majority of our time at MK and EPCOT).

We're staying at Yacht Club. There are 5 of us. Me, dh, dd (20), dd & ds (17). So we needed the room. I know only one bathroom, but we usually don't have problems.
Originally had booked from Oct. 6 to 12, BUT...when free dining came out for the second time, I changed from Oct. 6 to Oct. 4, DH and I will go down on the 4th, have a couple days to ourselves, then twins will come down on Thursday night (they can't miss anymore school) and DD will join us on Friday, (flying in from college in WV). Just by changing my dates two days with free dining I saved $400 from original price. Not too bad. :cheer2: :cheer2:

We are staying in 2 rooms at AKL for 5 w/free dining. I did an analysis between purchasing 1 AP & DDE (for $70.00 discount per room & 20% off TS meals) and the free dining. While the difference was very very close, the free dining was a little less expensive but essentially provided more food (appy, entree, dessert). I also like the fact that we can order whatever we want (well, almost :rotfl: ) and not worry about prices.

We were finally splurging and going back to the GF. It was going to be a split stay between the GF and the BC. Value season plus AAA discount I was willing to pay. Then the free dining came out. No more split stay. I lost my discount and dropped the GF (big savings). It originally came to $3300.00, but for $200.00 more, I got all our meals. My kids love to eat, so it should be worth it for us.

I would have jumped on a std. room at the CR, but all they had left there were suites.

I am a complete Newbie to WDW, and we are going for our first trip in Nov. What is the deal with free dining? We are looking into the $35 a day dinning plan, is this something else? We will be staying at the Contemporary.

We're staying on 14th floor at CR with free dining. My husband wanted to stay there and we couldn't get an AP discount. We're paying for 1 day tix and we're getting free dining with it. The second part of our trip we're staying at AKL with an AP discount.

We are staying at the GF 9/22 - 9/29 with the free dining. We have 2 small children and the monorail is such great convinience with the kids that I wouldn't even consider stay at a resort that was not on the monorail. That's how I justify it, I'm happily paying for convinience.

We're doing Poly from 10/1 - 10/8 with free dining. We were going to pay for the dining package, then the free dining was sort of tossed in our laps. We got over $600 off our ressies for doing nothing. Can't beat that!
