I'm so undecided on what to do. I have reservations at CBR right now for 5 nights. I would really like to stay a couple of nights at AKL. With my plans that I have we will arrive at CBR on a Sunday and on Wednesday we plan to just hang around the resort and not go to the parks. I was thinking we could maybe move to AKL on Wednesday to stay until we check out on Friday. We want to stay at CBR and also want to try out AKL . Would it be a pain to do this ? Has anyone done this on such a short stay ?

No, I've only done split stays on trips 10+ days. Even a week or 8 days I stay put. I think with only 5 days, all you'll be doing is checking in and out, without getting a good feel for either resort. Pick one. Maybe next visit try the other.

We just did our first split stay(last minute trip and we wanted to stay places we had not stayed before) and we were only there for 4 nights/5 days. We LOVED it. We did not have a vehicle and the resorts make it very easy for you to do this. We even had some items that needed to be kept cold and they were able to store it in a fridge for us. We stayed at Wilderness Lodge and then went over to Animal Kingdom Lodge. We loved it so much that on our upcoming trip in June we changed our reservation around to do a split stay again(this time we will be there for 8 nights/9 days.) Animal Kingdom Lodge is worth it to do a split stay in my opinion! We had never stayed there before and we are going back in June for part of the time because we loved it so much! Enjoy!

Sister is about to do it this month on an upcoming family trip. She and my BIL have a 2 and 4 year old, but the are going POP to Poly!

I have done it twice on 5 days trips. First time stayed at AKL for 1 night to check it out and to save some $$ then went to the GF for 4 nights. Second time did 4 nights at GF and 1 night at our fav moderate to save some $$$ and DH loves the digsite pool. Disney moves your luggage for you or if you have a car you can move it yourself. Very painless and kind of fun to stay at different places.

We're doing 1 night at AoA because I want to check it out and we don't land until 9 pm and I don't want to use that many points just to sleep, 5 nights at the THV, and then 5 nights at AKV. Go for it! :thumbsup2 But always move *up* or equal not *down*. We did an OKW/AKV/POR, split and it wasn't pretty. ;) That was a 10 night stay. I swore I'd never do a triple split again. :lmao:

I think it would be fun, some say it wouldnt be worth the extra hassle. We only will have carry on bags so I dont think it would be to much trouble. I enjoy the resorts and restaurants as much as I do the parks.

Keep in mind that you may not have a hotel room to go back to for several hours. For this reason, it may actually be better to sleep in a bit, check out of the first resort, go to a park, then check into the second in the evening, instead of planning it on a resort day.

I've always chickened out on split stays for this reason. DH takes a nap pretty much every day while we're at Disney. I don't think he'd enjoy not having a place to do that for even one day.

We did 9 nights on our honeymoon, and I couldn't even convince myself to do a split stay for that.

I agree since over half of the fun for me is also the resort! And we come from the west coast so our trips are infrequent.

We leave next week for a 5 night split stay- 3 nights at CR, then 2 at POR. We are even doing the "dreaded" deluxe down to moderate, but that is how the availablity worked with my first ever pin code. I am planning to go to AK on my trasfer day. Figuring that it is a "shorter day" park and we should get to our new resort sometime between 5 and 7 and *should* be able to check in by then. No extra travel time for us, just the time it takes to actually check in at POR. Then we'll either enjoy the resort that night or head over to DTD for dinner.:cool1::cool1:

I enjoy splits stays and do not find them to be a problem. It depends on your personality I guess. I am fine living out of suitcases and have not felt like we were "homeless"when we switched resorts. We just hang out at the pool until our room is ready or do a park day. This July I will be in 3 resorts in 9 nights! OKW, BLT, SSR. Really looking forward to getting to stay at 2 resorts that are new to me. I just look at it as part of the "adventure" and think it will be fun.

It's definitely doable even with only 5 nights. Just plan your day that you are splitting to maybe head to a park in the a.m.... then make that a day you come back for a break - but head back to new resort to check in and hang for a bit!

We've done 2 resorts on a 5-night trip. We do split stays every trip since our first trip.
Doing 4 resorts on our next 9-night stay (did 6 resorts last summer with 9-night stay - and yeah, worked out really well!)

:thumbsup2I say go for it! We  split stays and Disney makes it SOOO easy. In our opinion there are too many great resort experiences to just pick one per trip. AKL is definitely worth it too, :cloud9:we are heading back for our 2nd stay there in Oct. ENJOY!

Thanks for all your opinions :) . Ok I'm trying to figure out how to do this, should we leave CBR in the morning and take our carry on bags in a cab to AKL and hang out there, eat, swim, and check out the animals until check in or should we have Disney take our bags to AKL and go to the Animal Kingdom Park and then check in after we are done at the park ? We were planning on going to Animal Kingdom park on Thursday but we could do it on Wednesday ? I wonder how early we could check in at AKL ? If we have Disney take our bags to AKL how do we go about doing that ?

We did split stays but never for less than 5 nights each. It was just too much and we always felt like on the moving day we had paid for a full day but never got a full day out of the room.

Also Disney moved our luggage and misplaced a bag for 24 hours, major pain.

We don't do them anymore.

You can check in at 6am.

Wow 6:00 am your rooms not usually ready by then is it ?

We live out of our carry on bags too, we never unpack our clothes. We just take them out and iron them :rotfl: and put our dirty clothes in a trash bag until we go to the laundry.

We did a 2/4 split and it wasn't worth it for us for such a short trip as we never really felt settled. After checking into the first resort, we had to pack up and leave before we knew it. Then when we were just feeling comfortable at the second resort, it was time to pack up and go home. Split stays are great to try different resorts in one trip, but for us, we wouldn't do another split unless our trip was at least 9 or 10 nights.

I dont know that i would do a split stay with only 5 nights. If i were to do a split stay I pack my luggage based on days. I would pack every ones belongings in one suit case for AKL stay and then put everyones belongings in another suitcase(s) for the rest of they stay. I think this would simplify things a bit. Also, Having a car would make it easier. For me moving resorts on a shorter stay would make the trip less enjoyable. Its nice to settle into your resort. Having said that i am considering it for my 8 night trip. Spliting in 6nights and 2 nights - just to save a little money.

Still not sure if I want to do it. If I can get a discount for AKL I may stay there the whole trip.

When we have split stays, we usually have WDW move our stuff.
Since you only have a 5 day stay, I am going to assume you won't have huge amounts of luggage.

We pack up in the AM, call Bell Services, have them transfer the bags, then go to whatever park we're going to. When we're done with the park, we go to the new hotel and check in. Usually our bags are there & they get them to the room relatively quickly. That's been OUR experience. We do tend to have a bag with our bathing suits in ti that we keep with us so that just in case we get to the new hotel and our bags aren't there we can still use the pool.

The poster who suggeste done bag for one hotel and one bag for the other hotel...that's not a bad idea either. You can wear all the clothes out of the one bag and then stuff them all back into the bag when you leave the 1st hotel and then not have to look at or open that bag again till you get home.

I tend to unpack my suitcase when I check into a hotel room and then put the dirty clothes back into it as I take them off. Then when I leave, the suitcase is ll packed and all I have to throw in are the toiletries.
