Anyone considering last minute add-on at SSR before the 5/9 price increase deadline?

Just like my original purchase in October 2003, I'm procrastinating on making my decison on whether to add-on now before the 5/9 price increase to $95. Anyone else on the fence about SSR add-on & have not been able to put the trigger to decide what to do?

I am, but it's just not the right time for me right now. I just closed last month on my original purchase, and I already want to add on as I have realized my 150 points will not get me a week in a two bedroom at SSR.

Not sure though, we really like the Boardwalk and I think instead of adding on a SSR, we might look for a resale contract at BWV. The only issue with that is that the way I understand it, if I do that and I want to make a 200 point reservation at either resort, I couldn't do it 11 months out. Is that correct?

I'm always considering an add on. But before I actually act, my DH says to me, "ARE YOU CRAZY??? JUST WHEN DO YOU THINK YOU WILL USE IT???"

I went back to work full time not quite a year ago and don't have much vacation. Good thing I just love my job,! :teeth:

Good luck with your decision.

Yes. You understand correctly.

The 11 month booking advantage applies only to the resort for which the points were puchased.

If you think about it, the home resort advantage would become pretty meaningless if you could use add on points from non-home resorts at 11 months. Everyone would do it! It's a good rule and I can't imagine how the system could work effectively without it.

The only way to "kind of" get around that rule is to bank and borrow. If you bought a 50 point resale for BWV, you could bank and borrow so that you have 150 points to use at the 11 month window every third year.

Best wishes -

I would love to add on! Right now 150 points at SSR is going to be fine, yet I can already see down the line needing more points. I am sure that getting a 1 BR is going to be a nec. if and when a second child arrives. Right now we are happy with a studio. Plus, DW will not allow me to spend anymore $. I still feel lucky that we bought in the first place.

I believe the $95 change is to entice existing DVC to buy more now. I just don't see Disney exercising ROFR at $72-$74 for BWV, etc. which is what they would have to do to justify $95 at SSR. I personally don't see the value of the 12 years (although I know many of you do). The bottom line is that if resales don't go up significantly with the $95 change, Disney will not be able to sustain this rate increase. I predict the GM model of raise price and increase rebates will apply here soon.

Actually I believe you can do it if you borrow points on the contract based at the resort you're booking. While you can't book at SSR at 11 months using 150 SSR points and 50 BWV points, you could book at SSR at 11 months using 150 SSR points and 50 SSR points borrowed from the next use year. (If I'm wrong someone will say so!)

We have thought about a small 25 point add on, but we would really like to see how well our 160 points work for us. We would need more points if we always get a 1 BR or want to take family or friends with us and get a 2BR, but I also think that banking and borrowing may be sufficient – we’ll wait and see. We also thought that the additional points would be good for a occasional cruise – but I think we could do better booking DCL outside of DVC. For now, we are adding a major addition onto our house and I am concerned that with the rising cost of building supplies we will need to use the money at home. Maybe an add on is in the future, but for now we will enjoy what we have purchased!

Yes, we are thinking about it. Called our guide today. Tick Tock. It came up because we have already booked reservations for our 2004 points and need another trip in Feb not accounted for yet. It seems like there is always a good reason for an add on.

Have been a member at BWV since 1997; almost have my 150 points paid for and realize that I need more. However, not sure that I want to fork over the cash for additional points at SSR. I think that I would like to find points for sale in the same use year as my current membership (February) at BWV. That's the only resort we have used on Disney property at Orlando and we love it. Have also used points at Hilton Head - great fun for the kids and a good getaway for a weekend. It's only 2.5 hrs from home. I just can't decide what to do and time is running out.

Do I have these costs correct?

For a 25 point cash add-on @ SSR:

Prior to 5/9/04, it would be $89 per point for a total of $2,225.
Since cash, no down payment is applicable & no discount offered.

For a 50 point financed add-on @ SSR:

Prior to 5/9/04, it would be $89 per point for a total of $4,450.
With 20% downpayment of $890, the amount financed would be
$3,560 with a 10 year, auto deducted, monthly payment $46.55.
I also do not believe that any discounts are offered at 50 points.

For a 100 point financed add-on @ SSR:

Prior to 5/9/04, it would be $89 per points for a total of $8,900.
With $1,000 Magical Beginnings discount ($10/point, but loss of all 2004 points) and $890 downpayment, the amount financed would be $7,010 with 10 year, auto deducted, monthly payment of $91.67.

When I bought last October, I got 150 points @ $79 each without having to forgo 2004 points & have yet to make the 1st payment.
I wish I had gotten 200 then. If I only add 50 now, it's at $89 ea.
If I add 100, I'll get the discount, but lose the use of 2004 points.

We just added on a few months ago, so we're happy with the points we have now. When/if we decide to add points, we'll look at the resale market. We are very happy with our two home resorts, and would prefer to add points there.

Your math looks right to me. I just wish I could decide if I should buy the extra points or not. We are running out of time to make our decision!!!! Good luck with your decision!

I was looking over my numbers and thought the same. I should have purchased more at $79 ppt. Especially since I would like to give each of my DS's a contract when they are older.

DVC is still offering the $5 ppt credit as I spoke to my guide yesterday and it was still available on 100 pt. purchases. She said that if I purchased more SSR I couldnt use the points until July (closing date) which would give me time to try out the resort during my May visit before closing.

We added 130 and that guves us a total of 460 so we are set for now.Looking forward to using them in Feb??

I'm not planning on adding on...as someone pointed out the gap between "DVC 1" and "DVC II" will be pretty big at that price increase. The amount of inventory in BWV, VWL and BCV seems really low...almost like they are currently underpriced. Something has to give. I think Disney may be making a mistake with this price increase. But if you are going to try it out the summer is the best time to do it.

i just added another 100 points, bringing me to 275. I just had to do it, don't ask why, I just had too :earsboy:

Im ready to make the call and a 100 point add-on would put me in the 500 point club. With the $91.67 payment for 10 years would be $11,000.40 but what is the interest rate.Back in 2001 it was 10% but it should be lower know.Im ready to make the call!~

I was given all the other variables: payment, term, & amount financed. A rate of 9.75% works out to the payment quoted.

The 5 dollar incentive was not offered to me, but I called last month. Maybe it ended and was brought back or he forgot???

Hi,
We just added 100 points during our stay at BWV. We got the $5 discount aswell as keeping this years points.
Bit addictive this DVC thing....:teeth:
