Anyone concerned about the Coronavirus in WDW ?

They are speaking to the severity of all symptoms. High fever is one of the things that will get you admitted to the hospital.
Sever fever isn't what everyone gets in the first place. People's symptoms aren't the same with the flu.

Individual people will react differently as with any illness not to mention there are many different strains that go around. Someone with a flu vaccination may get a strain not covered that year. Sometimes the years are worse than others in the efficacy rates. I would say everyone who can get one is better off getting one than not but that's so completely different than saying "I got one so I got a lesser fever, buddy of mine didn't get one so he got a higher fever" a variety of things come into play there not a cause and effect thing.

Various things will land you in the hospital. Dehydration which can be do to not drinking enough fluids, vomiting or diarrhea can do that. Secondary infections can do that especially pneumonia. You could have underlying health issues that even with the flu vaccination you end up there. You could have a low grade fever and still end up in the hospital or have a high grade fever and not end up in the hospital.

The CDC does state: "It’s important to note that not everyone with flu will have a fever."

I never get fever and I was brought to my knees by flu (?) a couple of years ago. They wouldn’t give me a flu test because I didn’t have a fever. I was sick for 3 weeks. Wound up in a second urgent care who finally took me seriously, but it was too late by then. At least they were kind enough to give me the good cough syrup. That definitely helped.

I'm 'liking' your post but that sounds awful. I'm glad you went into a different place so you could get at least some relief even though it was too far gone.

Ran to Costco for burgers today. It was like stepping into another world. Jam packed. As you walked in the greeter had on purple gloves and was wiping the handle on everyone's cart. They were out of TP, bottled water, and employee said they were out of canned corn, beans, green beans....I heard people checking the source of where something came from to be sure it wasn't coming from China. The lines were back up like the day before the super bowl. Eerie..

Our local drug stores are either out of or in low supply of hand sanitizer. If they have any, it’s 2 bottles per customer. This is south Jersey.

There was a case reported in my city today, you couldn't pay me to go to the stores right now.

I just find this all so weird. Hearing the criticisms far and wide about how China mishandled the Coronavirus from the beginning as far as sharing information, and taking precautions to stop it from spreading. But then once the info was "out there", it just seems like all of the countries criticizing them (including ours) didn't do a whole lot to prepare or prevent either, with about a month's advance notice, did they? Am I missing something? They have told us that it spreads via respiratory droplets that can spray more than 6 feet from an infected person, but tell us our best defense is to "wash our hands". I guess "don't breathe in public" doesn't work very well lol, but really, just "wash your hands" and hope for the best? And then telling travelers who returned from infected areas to "self quarantine", what does that even mean? I hear of all these college kids returning from trips overseas and having to quarantine, where are they doing this? In their dorms where they share public bathrooms?

Not every doctor recommends the flu shot. It's a decent tool, but doesn't guarantee you won't get the flu, since it evolves and may arrive wearing a phony mustache disguise. ;-) CDC says its 40-60% effective. Sounds a lot like 50/50 to me...
Look at it this way, 50% of the time you would have gotten the flu you won't if you have the flu shot. While we would all like it to be 100% cutting cases by 50% is huge because everyone that does not get it can't spread it. So you see a massive reduction in spread if people in the population have the shot.

I’m thinking the same thing. Response has been far better in China and Europe than in the US.

I just got back from Costco. It was empty. They did put out more towels. But otherwise I noticed no difference than going at this time of day. Far more busy during the holidays.

But the US is a huge country. I expect regional differences.

The "spray" lands on things (keyboards, doorknobs, surfaces, etc...) when you touch that and then rub your eyes, pick your nose or touch your mouth you ingest the virus. Washing your hands does help prevent that. Masks are primarily used to contain the spray from people that already have the virus.

SK is doing drive through testing. Seems like securing supplies for medical personnel & testing would have been good government responses

Self quarantine would be your own residence where you have limited exposure to people. I don't know about the college kids but that would be a situation where a dorm or an apartment could present a problem depending on the set up.

In one article I read they defined it as "In simplest terms, “self- quarantine” means that you will have to stay home and monitor yourself for any potential signs of infection—coughing, fever, chills or muscle aches) for the duration of the incubation period (14 days), checking your temperature in the morning and evening, and reporting your symptoms to your healthcare provider." You would want to limit the number of people you come in contact with with preferably no contact with other people.

The people in our metro that are under watch for it (they don't have it) but have a medium risk of getting it are in their homes and being visited by the Health Department twice a day. However, the Health Department is aware of them to do that in the first place. I don't think, as this spreads, that we have the resources to send the Health Department out for each and every person who reasonably assumes they have coronavirus nor do I necessarily think we can inundate our medical resources reporting any and every little situation. I think we're going to be relying on a subset of people who are able to self quarantine to the best of their abilities with their individual situations so we can free up resources for other others of the whole situation. It's a tricky spot to be in for sure.

I know.

And I have no faith in the general public to do a good job either washing their hands OR self-quarantining.

We already basically hibernate during cold & flu season because People. Don’t. Stay. Home. when they’re sick.

People also don’t usually take common sense precautions.

As evidence -

I’m a member of a FB group, &, a couple of months ago, a woman was complaining because she had the flu & had to carry-on with life while her husband, when he was sick, got to stay in bed. Her ”carrying-on” including grocery shopping, a meeting w/ her accountant, & some school function - all 3 of those things could have been avoided w/ either grocery delivery or pick-up & by rescheduling & just not going.

To commiserate, one woman chimed in & said she had the flu in November but still had to bake 30 pies for a bake sale. While SICK, she baked pies to be sold to the public.

People have no sense.

I know a lady who is a grandmother who volunteered to keep her grandson who had to stay home from school because he had a stomach virus. That’s fine, but she was also, at the same time, keeping her baby granddaughter.

Sick people go to church & funeral homes & hospitals because, I guess, they think God is keeping a record or something.

So, no, I don’t have any faith in the general American public to keep this virus from spreading.

That’s what I experienced yesterday. It was really unnerving.

Sick people go about their lives because some of them don't have the privilege to stay home and just not go to work.

I did Walmart pick up today and everything seemed normal. We stocked up a little bit on canned veggies. We’re gonna do another order in the next two days. It’s all stuff we know we’ll use anyway. No one around here seems to be concerned. We’re about an hour from Orlando
