Anyone concerned about the Coronavirus in WDW ?

You expect 2 million Americans to die this year from coronavirus? To put it in perspective 60,000 die from the flu each year. That is a lot of funerals.

That would mean that over 90% of the US population gets infected with this virus. That's pretty unlikely.

The mortality rate is 1-2% so far. But it's probably lower since people can get infected, but their condition isn't bad enough for them to go to a hospital.

Not sure there is hysteria, but I get a flu shot every year. I keep calling but nobody has a Covid-19 shot yet.

I wouldn't want to be confined for that long either BUT at least it's my home. I'd take that if I didn't have serious symptoms over being in a cruise ship, a hospital, military base, or whatever. I'd get stir crazy no doubt though--I didn't leave my house for 7 days while I had the flu and my husband didn't leave for 5 1/2 days and we both were getting quite antsy by that point.

I am too! But I prefer being in by choice! I also like going for long solo walks. And like, being able to buy things I need.

I am definitely an introvert, but I, too, am concerned about being quarantined while on vacation. Being stuck in a hotel is much different than being stuck at home.

Not one bit. Are you concerned about the flu? Would the flu being in florida make you cancel the trip? If not, then this shouldn't either.

You don't see businesses shutting down due to the flu. You don't have towns or areas being quarantined due to the flu, either. And I think for many people, the concern is that with no idea how the timing of the spread of the virus might go in the future, that they may find themselves either in a quarantine situation at home or trying to avoid getting stuck in one while traveling.

I'm definitely not downplaying the severity of the flu for some people. At all. I'm just saying not all concerns about this corona virus are restricted to how deadly it is or is not, but how disruptive it could be.

Without a vaccine and good treatment options, it's scary. I expect the media to down play this as it puts healthcare debates front and center. I'm following the medcram updates for a neutral view. The problem is that until a vaccine is developed, you have to wait for it to burn itself out like the flu does every season. The problem is that unlike the flu this kills a lot more people.

This leads me to believe we are past the point of containment practically.

That's just stupefying. Obviously there are a tremendous number of people with flu/pneumonia that could (should?) be tested that aren't.

Just got back from a trip to WDW earlier last week with my wife and two toddlers. It was great overall and we'll be very glad we went if we stay healthy. We very seriously considered canceling and had a post on it where I was mostly ridiculed, but that was a bit ago. What a difference a week makes. Flight out, everything seemed normal. Flight back, 1/5th of the plane had face masks on, even though JetBlue is all domestic. MCO seemed very on edge. International sections on monorail roped off etc.

We stuck to high end sit down restaurants, no buffet, no quick service other than BOG. The food was all pretty good and no one seemed to get sick on it. We brought Purel wipes and sanitizer and tried to wipe down everything and wipe and wash hands a lot at tables, rides etc. We did not wear facemasks (it was pretty hot and the kids never would have kept them on ). I have to say, I'm pretty concerned for WDW going forward. Did not see any significant cleaning/decontamination efforts going on, though perhaps it's happening after the parks are closed? Did not see any screening/temperatures taken. There are just so many people there these days from so many countries, it just seems like a matter of when not if a superspreader gets into the parks as the CDC has been saying for the US generally.

Did manage to get on RotR and it lived up to the hype! HS apparently shut down for a private party that night, would have been sweet to be on that guest list. I feel for the folks who are there/have trips coming up in the near future and hope it works out. Just went ahead and canceled a different trip I had coming up, not worth it...

Well, the WHO and the CDC seem to be pretty darn concerned about this. If they weren't, we wouldn't even know about it.

People need to stop being so blase and comparing it to the flu.

It. Is. Not. The. Flu.

It is not behaving like the flu in ANY way.
