Based on known people who have it, though, right? Not based on people who might have it and don't even know it. There's not really a way to know the accurate number if you're only basing it on reported cases and not actual cases.

Exactly plus early swine flu rates were 7-8% mortality prior to those mild cases and unreported being estimated into everything.

While it is true the real numbers are essentially unknown, there are isolated cases of infection, like the cruise, which clearly indicate the death rate is much higher than the flu. This isn't something to just brush off by attempting to correlate it to something we're all familiar with. It's going to take a long time for us to find out the true impact of the virus, but it's best to take it seriously. At the very least, this is a wake up call for the world to be better prepared for something far worse.

At worst the cruise was 0.85% mortality rate and that's with people being forced to stay in a tight space with no reprieve from the germs I'm sure all over the ship and not getting proper sleep for many reasons.

Epidemic prevention efforts in other countries were scaled back under current administration though. As far back as 2018.

An entire team of people was eliminated and our influence in other countries in regards to situations like this was decreased. Is that not a cut? This isn't about hate of a person, this is about concern for how prepared we can be for things like this, especially if the value of that preparedness is not realized by decision makers.

I wasn’t addressing budget cuts, I was addressing the pp’s statement about questioning the info coming from the gov’t. That is something citizens shoujd think about no matter what administration is in charge.
