Anyone choose framed picture/pins as DVC referral reward?

A super thoughtful friend put down our names as a referral when they bought DVC recently, and we find ourselves in the enviable position of choosing a reward. :)

I was wondering if anyone here had chosen the framed, personalized picture with the 5 pins, and if you did - what do you think of it? We are remodelling our basement, and plan on having a wall dedicated to DVC with framed pictures of the resorts and thought this would make a very unique and wonderful center piece.

Thanks!

Lucky position to be in. We were told by our guide that we would get a $200 credit for our first referral. I didnt realize there were any other options, but they havent bought yet. I am interested in seeing your replies!

Lets see - from memory a level 1 reward allows your to choose one of several options:

The personalized picture I mention above

$200 credit on dues

$200 Disney Dollars

Or the reward can be donated

I think that was it.

I did the Disney Dollars and then gave half to the couple who bought in. They were fine with me keeping all of it, but I thought they deserved something for all the money they spent.

Canadians do not qualify for the "REWARDS!"

I consider being a DVC Member my reward!LOL

I've seen a couple of previous posts in which recipients of the pin-picture were very happy with it. I have not read any negative reports.

Do you know if you can get the referral award in MA? My sister just bought in and put me down - I hope I can get one.

Yes you are eligible.:)

Tagrel Congratulations on the referral.:D A bit OT but watch out for misinformation. SIL just joined the family at SSR last month. Their/our guide told them we weren't eligible because our residence of record is NV. We had two prior referrals from SSR sales in '03 which were paid. Just stopped over at SSR this week, before heading home and our guide was away. The CM I spoke to, looked up the SIL's record and there was not a referral. I thought something had changed in '04 for NV residents. The state is restricted. We have to do all transactions in person but still can receive certain advertising and gifts. He said we are eligible and to have SIL contact the guide. We both left messages. As of today, it is still not straightened out.:(

Does anyone have a picture of the picture?;)

A couple of years ago we referred friends of ours to DVC. They bought at the BCV. I asked about the referral reward and was told that because we live in the UK we cannot get the reward. I was told that the UK does not allow rewards to be given for Time shares. We initially accepted this and said no more about it. A couple of months later we were visiting DL Paris and decided to take a look at the Marriott time share near by. It was really nice and they went into all the benefits of their system. We were told about the rewards for referrals. I then explained that we are not allowed, living in the UK, to except rewards. We were told this was rubbish of course we were allowed and Marriott has always done it. So now I needed to find out the truth from DVC. I phoned my guide and was referred to the "Referral manager". He phoned me back (can't remember his name now) and when pushed admitted that DVC found it to complicated to give rewards to countries outside the USA. This was an admin issue because every country had different tax laws it was to complicated to administer. We argued the point and he agreed to meet with us on our next holiday. We met up at OKW and he said that he thought it was very unfair and he has been campaigning for sometime now equal rewards for all or scrap the whole thing! He said that he searched for things to give us that would have no monetory value. So he very kindly gave us some promotional DVC items that are not for sale, along with a copy of an OKW print. It was really nice being able to talk to him and put our point forward and I was thrilled with the free items. He stated again that anything he gave us would be construed as avoiding paying tax in the UK by our government and the things he gave us had no monetary value.

Another issue that we discussed was discounted tickets. He said that he had been campaigning for more discounts for years and would carry on doing so. So he maybe he was behind the survey for AP discounts.

Thanks for the replys and insight! :)

Here is an image I scanned of the picture: Each character is a pin (OK - Donald and Goofy are one pin!)

New Jersey does allow referrals. I would call your guide and check on it.

Our understanding of NJ referrals (as explained by our guide )is that you must give them some specific DVC materials supplied by your guide; otherwise no referral.

I LOVE, LOVE the picture :)

I want one! I want one!

Unfortunately no reward for us Texans. And I've referred two members.

No fair!!!

From a 2004 flyer they listed the following states as eligible for referral rewards:

Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, FLorida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Guess everyone else needs to write their senators! I'm just amazed that NY didn't screw this up for us... They delayed us buying into BCV for about 4 or 5 months!
