I was just wondering if anyone here hs any experience with changing doctors while they are pregnant? I'm 27 weeks pregnant and am having a terrible time with my current Ob/Gyn practice. So far, at two appointments I've waited anywhere from 45 minute to 1 hour, 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment to be seen, and no one at the office has even bothered to apologize for the wait. The receptionist doesn't even mention that the doctors are behind when you check-in. Another time, a few hours prior to my appointment I was told that I could either come in early or I would have to reschedule for another day. And at a fourth appointment, my name wasn't on the list - they just didn't have a record of my appointment. Now, they did see me, but I got the feeling that they thought it was my mistake somehow (Like I randomly show up at doctors office at 7:45 am with a container of urine in my purse!) And, of course, all of the appointments last for about 5 minutes total, so they just seem like a waste of my time.

If that wasn't bad enough, at my last appointment that past Tuesday, the doctor I saw was fairly rude to me. He told me to "stop eating so many donuts" and insulted my job (I'm a lawyer). I don't mind being told to watch my weight, he seemed to go about it in the wrong way. I was also supposed to get a flu shot at the appointment, but since I had to wait so long to be seen, the nurse who did the shots had left for the day and the doctor told me I'd have to make another appointment to get one!

Anyways, I talked to a friend from high school and she recommended an office of midwives that deliver at the same hospital. She has used them for 2 of children, and said that they are delightful to work with. I'm really debating calling them to see if they would take me on as a patient. I haven't had any complications or problems, but for some reason I'm so nervous to call. Apparently, doctors are the one group of people who intimidate me, and I'm usually very good at expressing my opinions and standing up for myself.

Is the office you visit attached to a hospital or birthcenter. I am a nurse on a Post-partum unit in a hospital in pittsburgh, and a lot of time the doctors who are seeing patients in the office down stairs are also delivering, so, sometimes they are behind due to that. you can totally switch, if you are on my side of the state and need any recommendations, please send me a pm

I switched years ago with my first. The hospital they were going to deliver, was not where I wanted to go. :scared1: I was in my 7th or 8th month when I switched and was much happier.

Well, I never changed OB's mid pregnancy. I love my OB/Gyn but have run into the showing up for an appointment and having to wait, or being told that I would have to reschedule because she was called away. It's fairly common in OB offices. Babies don't stick to our schedules. . .lol.

But I wouldn't have liked the way that doctor talked to you. And I think bedside manner is important when your having a baby. I would want to switch. You want to be really comfortable with the person you're going to be going through labor and delivery with. Can you set up an appointment to just go check out the midwife practice? My OB has midwives and an LPN that are all great. I never minded if I ended up seeing them instead of my OB.

Good luck and do what ever makes you feel the most comfortable.

My current practice is a big group --- at least 6 or 7 different doctors, and you aren't assigned to anyone specific when you are pregnant. One of the doctors is supposed to be on "birth duty" each day, so when women go into labor it shouldn't affect already scheduled appointments. You can't request a particular doctor to do the delivery, you take whoever is on the rotation for that day.

I would absolutely switch! You need to be happy and comfortable with an integral player in one of the biggest events of your life. I had a dr for both of my pregnancies and loved them both. First baby actually ended up being delivered on the weekend by an oncall dr that really just showed up to "catch" but that was okay, I knew that could happen. But it was the relationship that I had with the dr throughout my pregnancy and postpartum that was important.

Unless you have any issues/complications then who actually delivers the baby is less important than who you see in the months before. In both my normal deliveries the OB showed up in the last few minutes. I saw and talked to the anesthesiologist much more than my OB. It was the nurses that really were there for me. Well, or not in the case of my first one

Switch if you aren't happy, but don't cancel your appointment with the old doctor until you try out the new place.

I had to change OB/GYNs during my second pregnancy at about 16 weeks as my doctor lost privileges at the hospital. Not a fun experience. I was fortunate to get an OB/GYN that had been present at my first DDs birth so I did know of him. I liked him a lot and it did calm me down quite a bit. Unfortunately he passed away 2 days before my yearly check-up 1 1/2 years ago. He was amazing!

Eww yuck. I wouldn't like that.

I have had similar experiences with my Dr over and over...I would have switched probably 10 times by now. I chock it up to its an OB office...things happen that are totally out of your control and the Drs. Last time I was there 2 women came in while I was in the waiting room both showing signs of preterm labor...both patients of my Dr. Now what is the likelihood of that happening? Guess who got to see the Dr first...they did and I sat and sat and sat. What was I going to say? My friends Dr told her to lay off the X-mas cookies when she was pregnant...did she take offense, no, the Dr was being honest and at least being a bit human about it rather than so technical...but the message got to her, she had gained a bit too much weight and really should stop using the baby as an excuse to eat. If all the issues really bother you that much then change Drs...me I have stuck it out and make sure I either bring my work laptop or a good book to my appts knowing I could be there for 10 min or 2 hours.

Good luck in your decision.
