I am headed to Orlando for our annual April Roadtrip. Usually we leave about 3:00 a.m. from Rhode Island.

I am open to other ideas. I will be the primary driver with my 16dd doing a bit of driving. I would prefer to not drive overnight.

I am wondering in leaving RI at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, driving for 6-8 hours and spending the night, then resuming on Saturday morning would work...Again I am torn on when to leave.

Anyone care to share their schedules?

The only tricky part with leaving RI at 4PM is what type of traffic you're going to hit in NYC. I've done this drive a bunch and have made out great before but I hit tons of NYC traffic last year on Feb vacation. Went Tappen Zee to try to get around it and that didn't seem much better. The advantage to this is that you'll hit DC/VA around midnight and I've never hit traffic going through there at this time. Would usually stay just north of Richmond for the night, leave again around 8 AM and get to WDW the following evening. Not sure if you have this option, but if you left RI around noon you'd be through NYC by 3PM and should just miss traffic there. If you get dinner just before Baltimore you'll miss that rush hour as well. Doing this allowed me to get to middle of NC around midnight, tons of options for hotels. Leave there at 7 AM and get to WDW by 3PM which lets you miss Orlando rush hour as well. Good luck on your drive.
