ANYONE BUY heelys for there kids in Disney??!

I must say I have NEVER heard of HEELY until I read this thread.... I am assuming that they are some type of shoe/skate???? We must live in a vaccuum in the Cleveland/Akron Ohio AREA!

Like anything, there is nothing wrong with the product itself, it's how it's used that is the problem...

Both my kids have healies... but they are treated like a bike or a skateboard... When you use them, you need a helmet and only out on the street (we live on a quiet street).

They certainly can't take them to malls or anywhere else like that.

I think that is reasonable.

Our next door neighbors' son doesn't wear a helmet and I cringe everytime I see him.... uggh.

I am going to watch this thread because my DS-8 is begging for these and so far DH and I have not purchased them. I guess we have had too many encounters with kids in heelies at the mall! Let's just say it was NOT good!

Same here! Young boys have a hard enough time paying attention when they are walking let alone on heelys.

They really should be banned.
Oh, and it's their, not there.

ITA agree that they should be banned from the parks. I was pushing my mum's wheelchair through Epcot when we were there and next to spaceship earth there's a sort of hill. While i'm trying to push my mother up this hill, some kid comes speeding down the hill RIGHT AT MY MOM'S WHEELCHAIR:scared1:. So of course, I'm trying to swerve, stop, whatever I can do to make sure this 10 year old doesn't land on my mother and make her already broken ankle any worse (she was wearing a cast) and the kid glares at me like I'm in his way . I swear, I have never been so close to screaming my head off at someone at Disney before (or anywhere else for that matter). I think the problem with allowing them in the parks is that, I'm sure there are some kids that would be fine with them, but there are probably just as many, if not more that will pull a stunt like the kid in my post. Also, the unevenness of many areas in the parks... Sorry for my rant here  lol Just mho

They have banned these at my kids' school. They had some pretty severe injuries. One girl broke her ankle, not sure what the other injuries were. But I agree they should be banned.

I feel that whether heelys are good or evil is a matter to be left up to the Pope.

However, I did recently allow my mom to buy heelys for my son's 9th b-day ... not for use in Disney World, (they won't even make it into the car on the way to the airport) but for recreation just as with any other street toy. They take a lot of practice even to glide 10 feet in a straight line nevermind weave through crowds. Chances are also extreamly high that the child heeling will be hurt if not wearing proper equipment... I can't see anyone taking their child around any amusement park anywhere dressed in helmet & pads.

If Disney cast members choose to ignore the heelys, it's simply because they either have other issues on their minds or don't want confrontation. I am 100% positive they are not permitted in the parks. They may even not be permitted in the resort areas.

Just returned from WDW on Sunday - 7/23. Every park was overrun with kids with Heelies- no one stopped them. I can recall each day having a child run into me with them on.

ummm, no you must live in HEAVEN!!

HEELY HATERS UNITE!!!!!
I am going to WDW in October, and believe me, if i see a little brat whiz by me in those "devil shoes" , well lets just say they might forget they are in the happiest place on earth for a few minutes! :furious: (j/k)
Normally I am a very nice courteous person who enjoys children and understands that they are, in fact, children and sometimes act up. This is however, no excuse for parents to forget their common sense. If cast members aren't willing to require the removal of the wheels in those things- I WILL!! and I ask that everyone else with a brain and a concern for public safety do the same. Together we can succeed! :jumping1:

Potters mom i'm with you all the way.I'm there in Oct. too. If a kids comes whizzing by me with no regard to the fact that hes about to hit me, hes going to find that hes going to get "bumped"
And no flames, i'm a mom too, and i find the disregard by parents for others safety to be really disturbing. If it ws MY kid who crashed into you, youd be all over me i'm sure.
Theyre dangerous to the wearer and the bystander, they're not allowed in the parks, and if you come near me of my kids with those things on, your'e going down my friend.

AMEN! Kids come into my store (Disney Store, as a matter of fact) with those damned shoes on and nearly crash into displays or other guests. They drive me nuts! If any kid is headed my way at WDW, whizzing along on their wheels, I will have no qualms about accidentally sticking a foot out. :rolleyes1

The posters that have stated they would "bump" or stick a foot out should be ashamed of themselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sad2: :sad2: :sad2: Think for one minute what you are saying. You are willing to (as an adult) retaliate against a child for a parents decision? If you want to take your anger out on someone why don't you go trip or bump the father or mother or one of the kids. Let's see how well that goes over. I really hope that your child acts perfect @ WDW, if not other adults might be annoyed and lash out at your children. GROW UP, ACT LIKE AN ADULT OR STAY HOME!!!! I can say that if any adult were to trip or bump my child on purpose they would have to answer to someone taller that an 8 year old! :furious:

I don't have any children, and if I did, they certainly would never be allowed to own a pair of these dangerous shoes.

You're right, the idiotic parents who allow their children to terrorize other guests in the parks are the ones who really should be punished. However, if the child is over the age of 3, they are old enough to understand about being respectful to others and how to be careful when in public. The issue is that many children are being badly parented and therefore have no respect for anything.

Have a magical day! :wizard:

Do your kids wear heelys in the parks then? Youre awfully defensive.
No, my kids arent angels in the parks, and the normal kid behavior like tantrums and running dont bother me in particular. My DS is special needs and i know how that can be. However, that being said, having heelys and not knowing how to use them is not normal kid behavior, and it is the parents responsibility to prevent the possibility of such an accident in the first place!! I should suck it up and get run over all day because they have lousy parents???? NOT!Maybe if their kid takes a few spills they will finally get it that they need to come off.

I agree, these shoes will NEVER set foot in my home, or on my child!! They are probably one of the stupidest inventions ever.

That being said, i would never intentionally try to harm a kid wearing them, but if they ever bumped me, i would definately say something to them! And if i saw the mom/dad whoever.. in sight with the child, i would remark to them as well. But, never try to hurt the child.. Kids are kids, while yes, they are supposed to know right from wrong, it is up to US as ADULTS to teach them this. They are KIDS. We were all kids, and i am SURE we all made wrong /stupid decisions at lots of times! It is called growning up.

Ok- it's time for a reality check. It was pretty obvious to me that the people making these comments are doing so in jest, and even the meanest person would not dare intentionally injure another persons child (in Disney World!!)but it's still a little fun to joke about. Let's face it, SOME of these kids, particularly the teen ones think its funny to cut off pedestrians because they can- so it's nice to have a little daydream about a deserving person getting a dose of their own medicine. :lmao: Now, that aside, I hope you have by now realized that the shoes are a bad idea in public places and will not allow your children to play with them, (b/c they are a toy) in public.
god help us all for the people that just can't get that- or worse, can't tell their kids "NO"! :surfweb:

oh- and for the record- I never said I would trip or bump anybody- I implied that i would repremand the child in question(and /or parent) and demand the removal of the wheels as they are not allowed in the park.

Well, this will make Heelies seem wonderful in comparison.

I was at DTD last night. It was packed with people. There were so many people, you had to sort of dodge around them just to walk. Even so, there was a boy of about 8 or 9 on a skateboard! He was riding around in circles in and out of the people trying to walk. His parents were following along behind like it was no big deal. :confused3

I was not reffering to you. Other posters in this thread have made the bumping and tripping remarks. I have no problem with someone saying something to a child, but when an adult is talking about purposly hurting a child I take offense to it. Yes both of my children have these shoes, and if it were not against park rules I would allow them to take them w/ us. Both of my kids are extremly good skaters and are just about pros on these shoes. And yes, I know that not all kids are like this. Some just got them and have no idea how to control themselves or the shoes.

Another poster stated that the people who wrote about bumping and tripping on purpose would never do it, they were just blowing steam or something like that. To that I just say, why would an adult joke about abusing a child?

If people think I take it to personally I just ask.... How would you take it if someone was talking about hurting one of your kids? :guilty:

I know that at the parks there are bound to be things that annoy us. Let's just remember that we are all there for one commom reason. We
want to have fun :) . Don't let anyone ruin that for you or your family, and don't ruin it for anyone else either.
