anyone buy add ons in 25 pt. increments???

What use month do you get when you add-on to your existing home resort contract? I've understand it to be that purchasing direct through DVC on your same home resort would always get the same month?

I bought into AKV and have a September use month. Can I get September with every add-on or is it a matter of having to wait list for that month to become available

:confused3

I think if your UY is available then you get that right away but if not...you go on a waiting list. The only other thing to do is buy a brand new contract at buy in requirememts.

Our original contract was for 150 points at SSR in Mar 04. We added on 25 points last year and 50 points this year. We got the same UY. We bought this size contracts so we could pay cash for the add ons. Likewise I would like to think that if we ever needed to sell it would be easier to sell 25 points here and 50 points there.
Have never had a problme with MS yet. When making reservations I tell them where to take the points from or they ask me.

Are you adding on to the same resort and UY?

Absolutely. Well, at least until we get to an optimum level, and then we may start at another resort. In any event we will keep the same UY for convenience sake.

Since I am already a DVC member, what are the minimum points you can add on? Truthfully, I only want 10.

25 is the min. If all you need is 10 simply do a transfer of 20-50 points (or more) and then as you use and bank, you'll have the extra points for a while depending on how many you truly need. IMO, the best choice depends on whether you might need more in the future vs less.

To give us choices. We don't go as much as we used to, are empty nesters and had not decided how many points we wanted to keep. Also with adult children we were thinking of adding their names to a portion but only likely 25 points (we understand the issues and negatives involved). At the time we owned 232 OKW points and 333 BWV points. We also own other timeshares and have been able to trade in for 1 BR units consistently any time we want to go. One of our options was simply to buy 25 points and sell everything else so we'd still have the member perks. Due to the incentives we decided to buy 100 (4*25) and then we would still have all options later including selling everything except 25 points or any other combination. As noted, smaller contracts also tend to sell for more.

Just curious,
When you buy in smaller chunks like that at the same time, do you get the same deal as if you buy them in 1 large chunk?
And have you found any trouble managing the many contracts?

They are treated as one account both from a use standpoint and from an incentive standpoint. That's in large part why i bought 100, to get the incentives.

SO if we currently have three 100 pt. contracts at SSR...if we added on 50 points there if available......do two of those contracts become 125 pt. contracts????

I've added on 25 points and am currently waitlisted for another 25 (both at BCV)

So would you buy four 25 pt. contracts vs. 100 pts as an add on at say AKV so you can get the incentives?? By doing this....it would be easier one day to sell them off????

no.

all contracts are distinct. you would have 100+100+100+50 pts at SSR. you could sell any of the contracts separately. as long as they are all the same UY, you can combine them together to book a single night. but you would never change the contracts you already have by doing an add-on.

it would make them easier and more profitable to sell off.

not sure if DVC has a consistent policy about allowing the incentives, though, if you break down the purchase into multiple contracts. it might be allowed and it might not.

I'm not really the best person to ask because I'm not interested in AKV or the incentives. I wanted the 25 point increments because (1) the smaller number of points may be easier to find at my resort of choice (BCV), and (2) I wanted to pay cash and put it on my CC for frequent flyer miles :woohoo: , but I only wanted to charge about $2500 in one billing cycle.

AH HA.....very smart. See I learn so much on these boards. That is a great way to add on. I want some BCV points too.....:goodvibes

Oh okay......I am thinking LITERALLY ADDING ON to current contracts. LOL Okie dokie....I think I have it now. :thumbsup2

It is a business decision and as they say, YMMV. I've never heard of DVC limiting incentives due to the size of individual add ons as long as the total added up to the correct number of points. It is somewhat different for a new purchase, they will limit the first contract for a new purchase to the min amount but even then you can break it up after that. For example you could buy 200 points as 160 + 40. I do know of one, and only one, situation where someone did an add on of 150 points (2*75) and were able to get them titled differently than the original contract.

More specifically you are adding on a NEW contract to the master contract.

We did 2- 25 point add-ons at the same time, same resort, same use year.
Our Guide asked why not a 50 point add-on.
I explained that I read on the DISboard
that smaller contracts are very easy to sell. He laughed.
Also we have the freedom the sell one or the other someday. Keep the 150 point contract or sell the 150 and keep the 2 - 25 point contracts or sell.

:cool1:
