Anyone build or decorate dollhouses?

DH got a really good deal on a barely used dollhouse from a guy at work. It is not really decorated at all. I would like to repaint the outside and decorate it for my DD for Christmas. I have no idea where to start with this project. I looked at buying furniture and people online but I am not even sure what scale it is. The entire house measures about 3 1/2 feet wide by 2 1/2 feet tall, thee downstairs rooms are 10 inches tall and the upstairs rooms are 8 inches tall. My DD is 6 so I would like it to be something she can play with, not really a showplace kind of house. Any help would be appreciated.
We are planning to take a trip to the only dollhouse store I can think of while DH is off work on Monday. We are going here http://www.rauscountrystore.com/browse.cfm/2,108.htm but not really sure what I should be looking for. It did come with some wooden and plastic furniture but nothing really matches.

Sounds like its 1" scale.

If you have an AC Moore near you they carry some dollhouse stuff. You can use the 40% off coupons to get a great deal!

My husband and I built a custom dollhouse a few years back; it has electricity and is fully decorated. We have a dollhouse store here but after a few purchases, I found that ebay could beat the store's prices many times over. I ended up buying almost everything from ebay. I did all of mine in Bespaq furnishings, which are not something you'd want for a child to play with, but I remember seeing tons and tons of less expensive items out there.
